Where did his exhaust gasses go then? :-\

He also wound up with a version significantly different in the front to fit that 21" wheel. His version had a HUGE cutout in front of the cylinder head/headers. It also used a special filter and a different filter "box" in the skid plate.

I would venture to say a few more people have Arrow headers than 21" front wheels.

It's up to ACD. It is still a GORGEOUS piece of kit and should be a no-brainer to anyone considering an aluminum skid.

I know I'm gonna' most likely sell my literally *new* RumBux and get an ACD skid plate, if for no other reason than the cornering ground clearance issue. Plus the ACD looks a ton better.

Anybody out there want a RumBux, complete with speed nuts? :)

May as well sell those Arrows too? :)

Nah... I'll make those work with it if need be, and something tells me ACD may be making a change to let them fit as we speak... ;)

That Spanish metal work is beautiful. I admit.

But the Rumbux are kind of good looking too, in a Ranch Hand kind of way. :)
Not everybody gets that, of course.

Still not sure if ANYTHING is a brutally strong as the Tenere-Sherman Tank Armor built in Texas though. I think it is Arrow headers compatible too.

Possibly, but rumor has it that it isn't very wallet friendly.l

Depending on the kind of riding you do, the Rideonadv plate is worth it in the long run. Since I knocked the sump out of my 800 GS with a Metal Mule (attaches to sump) plate, and since I ride the Tenere in the same places, I figured the Rideonadv plate would be at breakeven if I avoid one sump replacement. Also, at least from what I've seen, no other plate makes oil changes as easy.

Best,

Chris

If I had it to do all over again, I think I would draw some pretty pictures of geometric figures similar to the ACD plate, and maybe a cool looking Tuning forks and send em to Jaxon and cry like a baby until that Sherman Tank plate showed up on my porch with some cool unique designs cut out of it.

I would probably get some speech about how I reduced the strength of it to some degree. But I am a preachers kid and have a stubborn streak with sermons. I know what is right and wrong. Sometimes I just take my chances. :)

Kind of a combo of all 3 of the plates above. Although I am sure I would have demanded the $ to be more than any of them.

I chickened out and didn't steal Jaxons one-off masterpiece while he slept in Ouray. Or was it because I am old and go to sleep before he did every night?

I'm 1/2 tempted to put the $200 sump and 4 quarts of oil in my luggage and just call it "done".

Call it the poor man's "skid plate package".

That would work ac but if you were to ride like some of these guys do off road you'd get tired of buying sumps.
2 sumps 8 quarts oil= skid plate

Yeah...unfortunately I don't get to ride like some of these crazy guys. I live in North NJ. We just don't have good off road. We do have GREAT on road.

When/if I finally get out for a major off road trip, I will definitely do SOMETHING for a skid plate. If ACD makes their plate fit with the Arrows I will just do it now.

Remember that a very influential test mule had a 21" front wheel.
And no headers.
Yeah... but this very influential test mule had to do all the mods in the skid plate for himself. ACD didn't do it ::)

I'm curious, JaimeV... Maybe you can answer this question, or know who to ask...

Do you know why ACD would have constructed their skid plate where it does not accommodate the Arrow headers?

Thanks!

Possibly for the same reason that Arrow didn't anticipate the multitude of skid plates that would be designed around OEM headers. I know Arrow was out with their header before ACD designed their plate but that does not negate the fact that Arrow could have easily followed the contour of the OEM headers exactly, just without the Cat, knowing that many of these bikes would have aftermarket skid plates.
You, Dallara, probably more than anyone else on this board, knows that when an aftermarket company designs something that they hope will be sold to the masses, they use an OE spec bike, not one that has been modified already, unless it is a part to improve an already existing aftermarket part. (Power commanders, jet kits etc.)

I understand all that, Scott...

But I was just curious if JaimeV had ever discussed that point with his friends at ACD, and if he had any idea if they were perhaps altering future versions of the plate slightly so it might work with the Arrow headers.

Scott is right.

To design the plate, ACD use my bike with OEM headers. They adapt the plate to them triying to follow the engine and pipes shape to have a nice thight design.
We didn't know the Arrow headers are different to the OEM and we dind't know anybody in Spain who had Arrow to use it as a template.
I don't know if ACD thinks to change the plate to fit this headers. I saw the work they did and a small change in the design is a big change in the production, this is time and money and this market is very small.
But better ACD can reply your question. I'm going to mail them with this post.

Cheers ::003::
