I have the new version of my ACD skid plate. ::013::
Still a prototype so they must improve the welds in the oil filter area they change from a square “box” to a cylinder. Also the foam is not the definitive, it has to be 10 mm (6mm in the pictures).
It looks much better than the first proto, better adapted to the bike but always with a good margin to avoid touch vital parts if it moves because a hit. There is a full protection to the exhaust, water pump, catalyser, suspension links…
The most important modifications are in the lower area where they have folded to adapt to the bash plate (with a 15 mm margin) and to add rigidity. Another big change is the rear frame they add, it looks really strong and add rigidity as well.
I hope I can fix it to the bike today, see the ground clearance and weight and test it as soon as possible. They want to start the production this month!! ::008::

In the last picture you can see the differences between the first and second prototype, I think you can see witch is the old one... ;)

Big improving!. ::012::

That's a proper plate. Still cheaper than crankcases. Are these going to be for sale?

Looks great.
Looking forward to your testing results.
I'm definitely interested. Any idea how (or if ) they will distribute in the USA?

Hi Fred, I always wondered about your statement. Apparently, it appears to be cheaper to replace the sump cover. Of course, if you happend to damage the sump cover in the field, you would be in for a tow charge that would probably be over the top as far as cost goes. It seems that some of the skid plates need to be a little more reasonable in their cost, compared to the replacement costs of the parts on the bike. Part #20 and #28 are the sump cover and gasket. there might be some other parts you might need, but these are the main ones. Parts fiche prices taken from mrcycles.

Sorry for the hijack. I'll shutup now - It is a nice skid plate though

I'm still shopping for skid plate. This looks very strong and looks good too. One question tho: how much of it do I need to take off to do oil change?
I know there are trade offs to have good protection and it looks like it will take long Bosch filter, that I use...

Mike, most skid plates require removal for an oil filter change. I just did my oil change with the ALtRider plate. Removal time, oil/filter R&R did it in about 40 minutes. That is way quicker than sitting in line and the oil change at a jiffy-lube for a car. Geez!!!
OH, the plate JaimeeV posted looks good.

Jaime, can't quite tell from the pictures but is it going to be setup to be a frame mount bash plate?

Hi!
Just finished to install (or try it!). The rear frame needs to have a little adjust to fix it so I hope I can do it myself to have a proper test in the weekend.
The manufacturer said if everything is ok it starts de production this month, is has some orders and people interested.

You’re right, they are expensive, I thought the same before being involved in this development, Its more difficult and long than I imagine.
But with this bike protections I’m paying ride without worries more than looking cost of replacement. A broken bash plate in the middle of nowhere could be a big problem.

To do oil change you must take it off.
We tried to avoid this making some holes to drain the oil and opening the cylinder who protects the filter, so we did everything without taking the plate out. But it was a mess; it was oil all over the plate.
So, they decided leaving it like this. It’s not difficult to take it off: the two big screws in front of the engine, and the little six on the back and the plate is off: 5 to 10 minutes??
They did the oil filter space using the OEM Yamaha filter (quite big) and leaving 10mm margin all around to avoid damage if the plate moves.

Yes is a frame mounted bash plate. In this post you have specs from almost all the plates for the ST: http://www.yamahasupertenere.com/index.php?action=post;msg=89017;topic=4999.0

I must measure the weight from this new one, it must be a little heavier than the previous one (in the list) because the new rear frame.

Sorry, this are really bad pictures!

Nice pictures, it shows the basics for how it mounts. By the way is that your new 21" wheel in the back ground of the bottom picture?

YES ::014::
Yesterday was a good day: new skid plate and new wheel. ::012::
Now cross fingers... hope the holes angle for the spokes is the correct for the OEM hub...

Don't get too exited. I'm all for good R&D. You have AtlRider crash bar , so why are you not asking questions? Those "two big bolts" is how your crash bar mounted to your bike. Aren't you interested? I am. Geez!!! This is forum. People ask questions and get answers.

That is really sweet. I hope that we can get them in the states. It's at the top of my list for sure.

Looks good. I'm glad to see someone working on it.

I still think it's barking up the wrong tree. No way that piece of aluminum is going to handle a decent hit.

I want something with a steel cradle, like a rumbux, that looks less "South African".

I'm getting rather sick of removing my SW motech plate and banging it back into shape.

It's very difficult to find someone with AltRider in Spain not sure if they sell it here but assume is not difficult to have adapters to it.
They gave me new longer bolts to replace the OEM ones because the addition of the plate, probably they can do this for the AltRider??
If you post some pictures I can send them.

I'm not working for ACD, just know them, asked if they can develop a proper skid plate and helped them for my own interest to have a proper one.
If it doesn’t handle a decent hit I’m going to pay the consequences: This is the test I did in the first prototype, it was quite hard:
