New skid plate arrival

I finally ripped my skid plate off and took it into the press brake. After 30 mins of bending and tweaking and complaining, it fits!

I left the rear mount so the skid plate is pushed forward 1/4". I then added a bend to the front of the plate just above the factory bend. Then I unfolded the Z bend at the top a bit that makes up the mounting. This moved the top of the plate to "vertical" as it goes in front of the header/engine head. I've been watching, but no rubber smeared on the plate since!

AC send those pics to Cedric. He got so close.
Oh, am I supposed to be his engineering department now? The pics are posted here on a public forum. If he wants to find it, he can.

So, I've read through this thread… I'm getting ready to pull the trigger on one and had a couple questions…

Do all of the plates rub up against the stock headers or was this just "some" early ones?
Does the wheel rub the plate when fully compressed? Does this cause a loss of control or just an annoying rub mark?
Spacer or no spacers when used in conjunction with altrider crash bars?

An early post had an issue with the oil filter touching the cover and wearing a hole in it. Spacers were removed and no more issues…

Have all the above issues been resolved or addressed?

Thanks. Just want to know what to expect before I pick one up!

ACD hasn't resolved any issue if you buy one you will have to address them. Proper size shim to keep
It off the header. If you can get access to a brake and do like AC did you won't have to worry about tire rub. I'm pretty confident that my forks have only bottomed out on some deep ruts and haven't felt any ill effects in handling. In that terrain I'm poking along. ACD got close but missed it by that much(get smart). I still like the plate for the coverage and the ease in which it comes off. It's a step up from the altrider I had but Jaxons is the most bombproof but also twice as much. Just depends how wicked you want to be. Sure looks good

FWIW, I can still make the tire rub even after I re-bent the plate. I'd have to break a weld and do a lot more mods to get it 100% out of the way.

I still profess that there is NO perfect plate for the S10.

If I wasn't so lazy, I'd make my own.

Well, as protective looking as the ACD plate is, if the quality isn't consistent, then I'm not going to take the chance… I'm going to go with something else. I don't need any potential headaches...

Have this plate on my 2013 tenere....no rubbing on exhaust and no tire mark on plate at all with tourance exp tires. I have used the frint suspension pretty much the full stroke as well. I installed it over my altrider crash bars with no spacers and the provided bolts. Love it! Very protective.

Hi everyone,

As we now run the ACD Racing Parts USA webstore - http://acdracing.us - we wanted to comment on the issues from this thread.

First of all, and most important, if tire should rub against ACD Racing Parts Super Tenere skid plate, there is no danger at all since contact should occur in the same way than wheel rotation it is harmless for both tire and skid plate.

This problem has rarely been reported. After some investigation it happened in some very specific cases that included a combination of various factors:

  • + Specific mud tires that increased wheel diameter by more than 3 cm,
  • + and/or Crash bars that were attached on the same spot with more than 4mm thickness spacers or using other mounting hardware than provided by ACD,
  • + and/or extreme use (intensive trail, etc...),
  • + and/or eventually combined with a damaged frame,
  • + and/or eventually combined with a damaged skid plate

In 2013 some angles have been lightly modified to prevent the problem. But we can still only guarantee full compatibility with original motorcycles. This is why it is important to us that you let us know about any conflicting accessory combination in order to continuously improve our products.

Regarding skid plate making contact with exhaust line or engine, if your frame has not been damaged this should not occur unless mounting instructions have not been respected. Please refer to the mounting video for correct instructions: http://youtu.be/4fTGV-d5KZ0

As we posted 10 days ago in this forum, we have a brand new website: http://www.acdracing.us.
