Hey Rod they look awesome I like that pax seat that could also act as a backrest for you don't you think? I may have to rethink my plans and have my pax seat set up like yours. thanks for posting.
I didn't do a "before" picture of the pax seat, but it now looks to be wider and much more supportive. I'll have my wife sit on it this PM and get her thoughts on it too. I'm thinking it was money well-spent.

FWIW, when I shipped the saddle out the weight was like 8.6 pounds. The UPS box today for the return shipment showed 10 pounds. Maybe UPS rounds up to the nearest pound and the USPS uses exact?

Mine was 10lbs as well coming back. When I shipped it, it was 7.5 lbs roughly. Came back in a different box than what I shipped in. I had to dumpster dive for that box. :D :D

Same thing happened to me Roman the box i sent out was busted when it arrived from what Tammy said so the box it came back in cost more by USPS standards because the dimensions of the box were different. It was $4.00 dollar difference. Well I am going to have my pax seat modded after all from seeing Rods pax seat it looks pretty comfy and I like the idea of having that small back support for the rider. I already worked things out with BMS.

Guys

Shipping has gotten expensive. I just shipped a 1/2 lb package from Calif to Indiana via UPS and it cost a bit over $10 !
Nothing fancy. Just a small box. No insurance. Ugh.

Whoo Hoo, Just got back from my ride in seat build today.
What a great crew to work with, very very happy. i'll post up more details this weekend when I have more time.
As far as the cost mine was $406.96 out the door. Thats a custom seat (vinyl with gripper) and a pillion recover to match. (no mod's on the p pad) ::008::

Why are most using vinyl and not leather? Just trying to decide what I will use.

My Vstrom Sargent seat was similar material and design. It seemed to wear well and was comfortable. Im not sure if it's any cooler than leather or vice versa, so it came down to cost. I had a leather seat as well. It was very nice. It was a Corbin. Not as comfortable, but that's not because of the leather.

As they say ymmv. :)

My opinion is that leather breathes better but that only matters if you wear jeans, not if you wear riding pants.
Vinyl is more flexible and looks better longer with less care. I've had custom seats made with both types of covers and will probably not have anymore covered in leather. And vinyl cost less.

I've had both as well and although I like leather, it just does not seem worth the difference in cost. Plus, you generally have to take better care of leather than vinyl. Leather is cooler compared to plain vinyl, but the textured vinyl like BMS and others use is almost equally cool.

YMMV

I have a leather Corbin seat on a KLR and it does need to be cared for. The vinyl is looking better: looks, cost, and care.

What about the difference of seat traction or how much does the rider slide around the seat?

This seat is slippery, just like my Sargent. I use a sheepskin rug on top and it's perfect. Someone also mentioned that it gets less slippery as you use it. Like the shine where's off.

Had the slippery problem with my DL1000. Bought an Alaska Leather sheep skin pad. Raised me up too much. Sold the pad. Sold the DL1000. Don't like slippery. The leather is starting to look better.

I just sent my pax seat off for a foam mod and recover shipping UPS was 20.00 with a 10% military discount it won’t arrive until next Thursday. At least I have my solo seat so I can ride.

Have you guys that have received finished seats noticed it is harder to get them to lock in place when the pax seat is installed? I did Steve’s idea and added an extra washer under the seat bracket.

You're going to like what they do to the pax seat! My wife sat on the new seat last night and her comment was "most comfy seat yet". I think she has forgotten we used to have a GL1800, but I still value her comment.....

I had no issue at all latching my rebuilt seats - this was in the low position. Perhaps it would be different in the upper position.

Just got back from my first ride on the rebuilt/recovered saddle. Not a real long ride, but I think long enough to give me a pretty good idea of what to expect on longer rides. Rode about 2 hours and covered about 100 miles. Mostly mountain twisties with about 20 miles of interstate and city.

The forward tilt is gone and the resulting position is near perfect. I don't feel the seat is any more slippery than my previous Sargent seat I had on my FJR. I'm sure it depends on what you are wearing too (I wear Darien pants). The seat was a little more firm than my previous Sargent - which I think is a good thing - but not as firm as the Corbin seats I have had.

Overall - very pleased, although the real test will be on my longer 500+ mile days.

Thanks for the report Rod I'm glad you liked it and I really hope you like it more after a long haul. I think the slipping issue is going to pass with time and use. Mine wasn't as bad the last time I was on it.
