Spoke with Bill (Rock) Mayer by email yesterday and he mentioned some folks were inquirying about group buys on his saddles. He said in his email if we can get 15 or more he could make us a sweet discount were his exact words. I am going to call out there today noon his time and get more info for example is this for vinyl only, can we choose different colors etc. He offers smooth, basket weave or grip tex or combos thereof. Check out his website http://www.billmayersaddles.com/ let me know who is interested and thanks.

Also I hope Stevepsd doesn't mind but check out his seat at this link http://www.yamahasupertenere.com/index.php?topic=3926.0 I think his bike is on their main page of thier site right now.

1. What is the group price discount for vinyl and leather?
Answer: 20% discount off of the vinyl or leather price off his website. That is an excellent discount for a custom made seat. The other guys couldn’t touch that I don’t think.

2. What is the cost if any for different colors?
Answer: Color samples have to be sent off to the customer and approved before he will use them, he said vinyl is vinyl one color is not cooler in temp then the other. If you want cool then choose the basket weave pattern vinyl or choose leather.

3. Would the entire groups payment have to be received before work would be done?
Answer: Pay when you ship is the best way work out your discount and send the check include $20.00 for return shipping.

4. Can you (BMS) work/or fix stock seats that have been cut into by their desperate owners who took it upon themselves to modify their hard as a brick stock seats?
Answer: He is not concerned in the least with our stock foam condition. He said they take our seats down almost to bare bones they do not slap a piece of foam on top of the stock stuff. He is very passionate about what he does and the most important thing are the pictures we send him of our bikes with us on them and off them, plus our height and weight. We will receive back a custom made seat just for our body type.

5. What is the cost to the UK?
Answer: He needs an exact address to tell you shipping cost.

Mr. Mayer seems like a really good guy he is on the east coast right now and was at Daytona bike week and get this he test rode the Tenere and loved it. He is a BMer rider owns several he said and he is really thinking of picking up a XTZ. He also said he does not normally do group buys this time of year because this is his busy time, normally group buys are Nov/Dec when they are slow but he liked the XTZ so much and heard so much good about it he wants to work with us. He also said he did a group buy for FJR owners one time and had 140 customers worldwide from it.

One last thing he said if anyone from the forum or the group buy has any questions to contact him and he will help you out. I am definitely on board even more so after speaking with him. I say we set a deadline for responses sometime in mid-April if everyone agrees? If you contact him on your own tell him you are from the Super Tenere group buy mention my name Vince he should remember our conversation.

Certainly, if the price is right, I would be interested!

Thanks!!

Edit: Just read the info in the thread you linked about the delayed availability of the Sargent saddle. I'm MOST interested in the BMS now!!!!

But I'm trying to lose some of that weight (it's been a long winter)!!!
:D

The other thing that many will be interested in besides price is turnaround time. I wonder if they can set up any kind of an exchange program?

You just took REMS line from him I know for sure he would have chimed in on that one. :D

BMS did say turn around is three days but a exchange program would be great. I really need a spare seat because my XTZ is my main form of transport I can't go without a seat for one day much less three not counting shipping to and from but I will figure out something for a good quality seat and good price it would be worth it.

The price wasn't terrible to begin with and I have 2 bikes.

So... I'm in .. consider me Number 3? I'm 100% committed.

I am interested as well.

Edit: I'm looking at the solo with a matching cover for the pillion (both basketweave and plain vinyl).

What about the possibility of those of us that are interested, chipping in and buying a seat to send to BMS to cut down on the build time ?

How would that work? If there are 15 people that wanted a seat, wouldn't each seat be different because of weight and height?
just saying

I think the idea is a stock seat used for those waiting for THEIR seat to be done, once done, they ship that stock seat to the next person in line.

Thanks Mellow. I'm only on my second cup of joe, so not really awake yet. ::025:: That makes a lot more sense than what I was thinking.

Re: Bill Mayer BMS Seat Group Buy Anyone???

Exactly sharing a stock seat so that person can keep riding. Of course folks would have to foot the bill on shipping the stock seat to the next guy to use. That could get hairy with logistics and wait times. I live in VA but the next guy on the list lives in CA for example then the next guy lives in SC or something. I'm sure it could be worked out somehow. Since I work for the M/C safety program here and do the maintenance on the bikes I might just borrow a seat and make it work somehow for the time it takes BMS to work mine.

Somebody check my math but I'm counting 9 so far and it's only been a few hours. We should reach 15 no problem! Talk it up guys this can be done easily. I will try to get prices from Rock when I call him later. Are most guys interested in vinyl covers? I was even thinking of blue in the seat pan portion and black on the sides with the thought the blue to match my bike and it wouldn't draw as much heat in the summer.

I'm thinking of the basket weave in black vinyl.
