....well we'll just have to wait and see what comes out in the wash. I'm kinda hoping the Givi is asymetrical. I also like the solid brace between sides. I think the rack from Twisted Trottle uses the rear fender as part of the cross brace.

So you want to use two different size bags - since that is what you will need if they rack is asymmetrical. I thought form your previous post you wanted to use the same size bags on each side.

I ordered the Givi rack yesterday from amotostuff in Reno. I will post info/pics when I get it. As far as the SW-Motech rack and the fender? I think that the rear brace for the rack goes behind the fender and doubles as a license plate support and actually adds structure to the fender. I'm not totally sure on that, but that's what it looks like in the picture if you look close. Perhaps someone at twistedthrottle could confirm this?

Kev at Twisted Throttle confirmed that with the SW-MOTECH rack, the bracket actually fastens to the fender. On the GIVI it appears to simply pass inside of the fender without actually attaching to the fender.

Colorider,

After getting two different stories on wether the givi racks are symetrical or not..... I'm going to wait until somebody gets their hands on one to make a final decision. The folks at Amotostuff lead me to believe that you could use the same case on both sides?? If that turns out to be true, I would lean towards the givi e36 or the Trekker 33ltr. I also like the givi rack with the caribou cases since they are similar in price to the Trekkers w/rack in price. Just food for thought.

Well, this is an option no matter what the rack configuration. It's just a question if you want the final width to be approximately the same on each side from the centerline of the bike. :)

I spoke with Judy at amotostuff today and she admitted that the PLR367 is a new item for them and that they have not actually seen one, yet. She is assuming that it is a symmetrical rack since the Givi rack for the Wee Strom is symmetrical. She is expecting their first inventory shipment to arrive tomorrow, 1/27, and the rack I ordered will ship when they receive that inventory. I plan to call and confirm the symmetry of the rack before they ship to me. If her assumption proves right and the rack is symmetrical, I will switch to the SW-Motech rack. I will post any info as it becomes available.

I did order a Givi rack and will post info/pics when it arrives. Also, if you look on cariboucases.com in the SW-Motech rack section, look at the 26L - 32L option. I think this is a very inviting option. Here is an attempt at a link:

I am looking at this option. The case measurements and some photogrammetric work using a rear shot of Wasp's bike suggests that the width of this Caribou setup with SW Motech racks would be symmetrical in width. Haven't seen a rear shot of the HB or GIVI racks to do any photo work on them.

Got a call from Judy at amotostuff today. They have received a major order from Givi and it included a number of PLR367 racks. She is shipping one to me and I will be able to post some pictures with measurements soon. She said that it appears that the rack on the right sticks out about 3 cm's less than the rack on the left and is definitely asymmetrical. I'm thinking that this rack may also work with the Pelican 26L - 32L pair for those that like this option. You'll have to work with the guys at caribou cases to get them set up to work with the Givi rack. Another good option would be to use the Givi rack with a E36N Givi case on the left and a E45N Givi case on the right. They say that the E45N will accommodate a full face helmet.

Good news that they are asymetrical. Several of us are leaning toward the Givi Trekkers using a 33 and 46 and these racks. New member ErnsTT has them on his S10 and says he will be posting pics soon.

Cool. Thanks Devin. That is a good looking set up. I will initially go with that rack and the E21N's because I don't really need much space, and would rather go with a lower profile and lighter weight. I will eventually procure a set of Trekkers to have on hand for when I need extra space for a serious road trip :)

Looked at the Givi PLR367 rack and the SW-Motech rack today at the Cleveland IMS. Both seem like they would hold up to my use because I am not a hardcore off-road guy. SW-Motech is probably sturdier.

I asked the Givi rep if there was any way to lock their rack so it could not be easily removed. He said regrettably no, and acknowledged that that is a problem.

SW-Motech offers a pair of locking knobs for their rack so you can secure it. I might lean toward that. Although, since I think the Givi rack is good enough for me, I would probably be OK with a non-quick-release rack. I have only seen the quick-release rack listed in the US so far.

One possibility I just thought of, so did not ask while I was at the show - maybe the SW-Motech locking knobs will fit the Givi if they use the same kind of fasteners.

Also, I liked the Trekker case, confirming that I will get those.

The Trekkers look really big and wide from the back. Maybe they all do but one pic that I saw with that 45 on the right looked too big for my taste.

Yeah, I agree, that 45 on the right looked huge in ernsTT pic of his bike. Looking at that, I thought that if I get the Trekkers, I might go for a pair of 33's. He said something about the PLR racks taking a special 3 sided allen or something like that? Not locking, but if it takes a special tool, that is better than nothing, I suppose. I was doing a google search on the Trax bags and one reviewer liked the bags but thought the SW racks were "shite" because he didn't care for the security system.

Ont thing about going with the SW racks as opposed to the Givi's is that if you later decided to switch to another brand of bag, there are several adapter kits to fit the Sw M racks. Decisions, decisions.............

After seeing the size of that 46L Trekker, I started thinking about the Trax again, in black, like Wasp has here:

i am glad to see I wasn't the only one who couldn't decide which side bags to go with. So i am not going with any, just taking my money and going to listen to the Thumder Trumpet WASP is going to sell me!!!! I hear you about being too wide. I think the narrowest bags of all are the Caribou, or Givi E21's.

"This QUICK-LOCK EVO Side Carrier is designed for 1-Up riding only (riding without a passenger)! Due to the geometry of this motorcycle, the EVO-Carrier and cases must be mounted further forward than usual and may interfere with passenger leg room (positioning the EVO-Carrier further to the rear would compromise the integrity of the motorcycle).

To me that reads like a lazy designer taking an rack for a different bike onto the S10 to save on enginering costs, even the Whoppers from Givi leave room enough, and the subframe and loooong swingarm of the S10 could handle way bigger suitcase or trolly without a prolly.

here you can see it quite clear, room enough, from case to footrest is 12,5 cm (heel of my size 10,5 Lowa is 10,5), and from end of case to end of topcase carrier is 15 cm.

I asked the Givi rep if there was any way to lock their rack so it could not be easily removed. He said regrettably no, and acknowledged that that is a problem

well shame on him, he just didn't read or look at the racks, the have corresponding holes in footrest plate and rack, and the nose where you push the topside of the case, is gripped by an inside fishhook wedge that can only be operated with the key.

With a little diy, you can make your ingintion key open the Givi boxes :)
