Jesse Hard Luggage

The Jesse Bags are growing on me.

I see for the 1200 GS they offer a Safari system with "Quick Lock" connection.

Anyone have any experience with this Quick Lock mount? Seems hard to believe a mounting system that would support those huge bags and all the crap someone might stuff in theme could utilize 2 pins that look to be about 3" apart near the top front of the luggage. Just seems prone to failure to me. But then again every time I fy I am amazed that the weight of an airplane can be supported on the landing gear that just looks to be so undersized for it's purpose. (Late note - I just read the instructions for installation - the system uses additional support on the opposite end of the bag and a license plate bracket.)

The Safari bags in the size they show for the F800 - their 9" bags, in black with the Quick Lock system would be the bee's knees for me. But they don't show the 9" bags with the Quick Lock. They only show the elephantine 11.5" bags with the Quick Lock!!! (Seems it should be the other way round.)

The Quick Lock mounts are pretty slick and if they work as indicated preclude the need for using the passenger pegs to mount the bags.

leaking panniers
We have answered this video several times on many forums. If you guys see this question come up please link them back to this thread of copy and paste it into the new thread for me please. The video appears to be taken down by the user on his own. We did not ask him to and this is the first indication to us that the video is gone. The video depicted a TraX case full of water - adding force and pressure that is no normally there. This pushed the water through the case instead of the normal action of keeping water out of the case. The case itself was a first generation case that was replaced ages ago because of slight water pass through. The case in the video had the old style gasket which was hand laid and not specially formed for the case. The succeeding generation included a pre-formed gasket that solved the water issue. With this upgrade SW-MOTECH started to do a leak test of every case at the time of assembly to insure that everything from the factory was water-proof.

As an added bonus Twisted Throttle decided to include with every TraX case a waterproof dry bag. The bags are sized to fit the interior dimensions of the cases (side 37l, 45l and top 38l) and the closure doubles as a nice carrying handle.

"This QUICK-LOCK EVO Side Carrier is designed for 1-Up riding only (riding without a passenger)! Due to the geometry of this motorcycle, the EVO-Carrier and cases must be mounted further forward than usual and may interfere with passenger leg room (positioning the EVO-Carrier further to the rear would compromise the integrity of the motorcycle).

Just a note regarding the SW Moto Trax boxes and EVO carrier.... There has been some reports that these boxes are not usable with a passenger. I made inquiry with Twisted Throttle and have been advised that this is not the case. They are perfectly capable for use with or without passengers. Having seen these boxes first hand at a V Strom gathering, I saw nothing but good design and was initially taken back by these reports which caused me to inquire.

Hope this helps,

Waiting impatiently for my Super Tenere
TC ;D

Oh yes :)

Ever seen a R1 or S1000RR and te hugepower & torque it puts on its chain?
Now look even closer.. At the chainpins, who transmit all those ripping horse power that even can flip a fulloaden bike bakwards.

here some data on a 50 chain (520/530) pitch 0.625 in (15.88 mm) roller 0.400 in (10.16 mm) tensile strength 4,880 lb (2,210 kg) working load. 1,430 lb (650 kg) all load bearin on steel pins only 3/16" (5mm) Ø

Steel is incredible strong when the load is transfered accordingly the construction. So you need to seriously overload the cases to rip the pin apart, though you must consider accelerating masses give multiplications of loads, so a cas of 30 kg will "weigh" amultitude at a harsh bumping over a speedbump.

Glad to see the leak issue has been addressed. I'm undecided between the Trax and Pelicans. Will you have some for us to see at the South Carolina IMS?
Thanks,

I am also down to the Trax and Pelican with the Pelican still on top. What I need is some photoshop work to see what these would look like on a blue Tenere.

Bold but I like to be seen.

Anyone have experience with the Hepco Becker racks. Roger at Caribou seems to like these over the SW and GIVI racks. Anyone with first hand experience with the HB Tenere rack?

Switchback, I think that the Pelican bags would be great for the S10.

I am intially going with the Givi rack and the Givi E21N's only because I want smaller/lighter bags, but I will eventually add the 26L - 32L Pelican setup for when I need more space for road trips. If you look at the pix on cariboucases.com of the pelican cases on the GS, I think that is a pretty close representation of what they will look like on the S10.

There is already a 26L - 32L set available on their website for the SW-Motech rack, so it is a no brainer.

As for yellow? That is a tough one. I already have one black pelican case, so I will probably go with black, but yellow looks good and improves your visibility to traffic.

Good luck choosing.

The Trekkers look really big and wide from the back. Maybe they all do but one pic that I saw with that 45 on the right looked too big for my taste.
I received my Trekkers today. Yes, the 46L is a lot of bag, compared to the other (33L) size. If you are familar with say the E360/460 versions or the older E36/45 versions, the 33L and 46L Trekkers have about the same size relationship.

I have all ready advised my wife that she gets the 46L and I get the 33L so everyone is happy. My E460 trunk will be shared and used for light stuff while traveling.

Does anyone know if the Yamaha brand 32 litre right hand side case will hold a large full face helmet? That's my gage for minimum acceptable pannier capacity. The depth dimension of the Trekker 33 litre is 9 inches, which would not be enough. Clearly the Trekker 46 litre would hold a helmet.
Thanks
Will

Will, I didn't try it last week when we had one here, but I don't think any helmet would even come close to fitting in the OEM bags.

The soft luggage liners are listed at about 7" wide, which is about 2" narrower than most helmets. IOW, not a chance.

I've just seen the Metal Mule set up on a Super Tenere at the Excel show. Nice gear ... very tough construction and great attention to detail. They used an asymetric set up.

Did you notice how the right hand pannier doubled up as a table. They do come in all sorts of sizes BTW ... they didn't seem that large in the flesh. Apparently they convert into a full size SUV once removed from the bike :)
