Is there a flash that would let the ST run on 87 octane without damage?
Ken
Ken,Kenack said:I haven't run any 87 yet but know I will have to in central & south America. That is why I was inquiring. I know the older BMW's retarded the timing a bit to help with regular gas detonation.
Also, another consideration is a map that would increase fuel economy for long stretches without gas stations. I know an IB rider that increased his fuel average on a DL1000 to over 55 mpg using a power commander map for fuel economy. Just thinking?

So...if you are willing to trend off others...I do NOT change the timing tables in my flashes unless you specifically ask for a 91+ octane tune. Chris at Flash Tune also felt the stock flash was good for 87 octane.sportrider said:FYI re 87 octane: I have 8000 miles of sport riding on 87. No issues or detonation has occurred as of yet.
Happy to let you check it out... ::26:: ::001:: ::003::okiegtrider said:I'm interested. I'm not too far from OKlr's one Tenere town and recently acquired a Tenere. Maybe I can give him something to compare to besides memory of stock bike.

1st was Nick Sanders himself. Who likely made the smallest effort to protect the Tenere in that environment. In fact, it's safe to say he was dared to break it. The bike was provided to him. He had no reason to take care of it. And he didn't. Brutal field test. Far different than "the others".
2nd is the now infamous DCstrom. Unlike Nick, he is doing just the opposite....Seeing how loooooong he can take riding around in the land of the Aztecs.
And finally, we have that crazy Brit and his soul mate. 2-up and loaded like a Mexican burro. This Tenere is NOT getting pampered. Gotta be a test on engine knocking for sure.
All these guys (and gals) are my hero's. They go before us and reveal the strengths and weaknesses of this mighty machine. We owe them. Yamaha owes them. I sure as heck am paying attention.
Ride in/ride out isn't really a problem, but I need to know your ECU part number BEFORE you get here.Koinz said:I'll probably get it done when it gets nice out. I'll ride to your place or something along those lines. Maybe a ride with Nick and yourself.

Let me know when your flash is going to be ready for ECU -70 (I assume that's the one I have since my S10 is 2013 model).
BTW, it puzzles me that the flash is different according to the reference of the ECU. I thought the hardware was similar but just the program inside was different. Obviously, your findings point to a different conclusion.

AC, I couldn't stay in the unknown, so I pulled off the right fairing to make sure. My ECU is DENSO ref 23P-8591A-70 (2013 S10).avc8130 said:Phil,
The hardware is different between the -30 and -70. The -30 uses an older processor setup. The software is different between the 2. Chris and I are trying to sort out the file structure. I'm "pretty sure" we are ready to flash a -70, but I don't have one of my own in case something goes awry.
