Re: First venture out.

Walked to my shed, opened the door, stepped inside and looked longingly at my Tenere. Stroked the tank, patted the seat, turned around and slowly walked back to the house under blue and sunny skies. I'm just under three weeks on from open heart surgery to repair a leaky mitral valve, so physically at least, i'm a bit knackered at the moment. I'm also banned from driving anything for the next five weeks, by which time my sternum should have knitted back together. Life mildly sucks at the moment but, as i'm upright, breathing and actually typing this on my computer, i'll count myself as one lucky sod and work upward from there. ::008::

Waiting sucks. I was off for a bit last year. I hadn't got the Tenere yet as I had to wait to heal up. Between healing up and waiting for winter to end, it was a long 7 months. Heal up and know you are a lucky sod as there is a Tenere waiting for you. Best of luck, hope the time passes quickly!

Garmin Zumo 390 came in yesterday. Wife is learning all of it. Will get it mounted this weekend probably.

10' motorcycle ramp, chock, and tie straps should be here soon.

I'm finishing my current contract September 2nd and my wife and I are planning on hauling the bike from Texas to Phoenix to drop my dog off with my parents, then doing about a 5000-6000 mile continental divide loop. Hoping another job doesn't fall in my lap because we could really use a break for a month or two.

Tomorrow we plan on doing a "pre pack" trial run to see what we do and don't have room for. Have a few items left to purchase before the trip as well. Cooking stuff, InReach, few clothing items, etc. Bumot top case should be here today.

We'll see how tomorrows ride goes. 101k on the bike, so time for some suspension upgrades. Cheaper than a new bike! :D

A lot smoother on the street. Really tones down the bad roads in UT and has a HUGE amount of pre-load adjustment. I was a little concerned about the spring markings until I learned the were Nm and spring length, which works out fine for my needs. The front is OMG improved from the tired oem that was over loaded from the get go. The rear, I'm still on the fence about the Hi/Lo adjustments, but this is my first shock with that feature so I'm learning how to use and adjust it.

Loaded it up with camping gear on top of the fuel cell and performance was stellar. Spent the night camping in Torrey, UT. Then departed on Hwy 12 and some of the lesser know routes thru Koosharem to Antimony before swinging by Bryce Canyon on the way to Zion and home. Zion was full of Tourons and farging HOT. From the tunnel all the way to LaVerkin was painfully slow and the stupid cloud was hanging very low.

All in all, the Touratech/Ohlins combo is win.

I'd say "thanks" but you are a bad influence.
;)

Greetings from Dubai where it's been 106-114 this week. Hope to ride an Africa Twin this week end.

Altrider Side Stand Foot had lost two bolts so I bought five new stainless bolts and washers and installed them. Ended up that one of the other bolts was partially broken. The new bolts were too long so I cut the extra off with a Dremel. One less thing to be concerned with.

... ACD to install. Already have the bolts cut.
... PC8 to install.
... Rigid driving lights to install.
... PIAA horns to install.
... Want to get the ECU re-mapped.

... Accessory Bracket Brace is working very well.
... New 1" Ball RAM mount, RAM-B-408-37-62U, works very well and looks better than the U-bolt model. Both work well.

Glad to help. ;D Greetings back at you from Southern Utah, where it was those temps last week, only 101 yesterday. It's a dry heat, don't 'ya know? It's been over 100 nearly every day since the end of May. Glad I don't live where it's really hot!

Noticed I'd gone 6400 miles since my last oil change, oops, meant to change it at 5000 miles. Had all the materials on hand so set about changing it last night. Glad I use a full synthetic! By the way, does anyone know the difference between Castrol 4T Power 1 vs. Castrol 4T Power RS? Both are 10w-50. I ordered from Amazon and thought I'd ordered the Power RS but when I opened the box it was the Power 1. The Castrol US website does not mention the Power 1, only the RS.

I loaded the lifeless carcass of my 2013 onto a flatbed and watched her go to the salvage man. A deer sent my bike to heaven and me to the broken bones place. I just purchased a brand new 2015 (in red) which is waiting for my wrist to get well. I have been sitting on it in the basement and making motor noises.......that will have to do for now. The 2015 is dam nice; however, I almost bought an Africa Twin, which I blame on the pain meds I am on.

Re-fitted my ACD skid plate, I knew the clearances were tight but on closer inspection it was rubbing on the headers / exhaust in a couple of places - vibrations when getting up to heat were worrying me.

Much swearing, a bit of bending, much more swearing & a couple of washers & I have what I find to be a more comfortable clearance all round.

First trial packing run for 5000-6000 mile two up trip. Still have more things to buy and other stuff to do to get things where they need to be. Will be able to do a "final" run for everything we'll be bringing in a couple weeks.
