I brainstormed ideas all last night to figure out a replacement shorty windshield to get rid of my stock one. Thinking about the available shields on the market I thought outside of the box. Not along the lines of custom making one, but with something that is already out there from my highschool track days...
But not pavement track... dirt track...
I ordered the "Large" black version of the Box BMX Number Plate that they produce. should come as a black shell with a blank white insert. They come in multiple colors, and many vinyl printers are capable of making custom inserts as well for very little money. Ordered this off of amazon for under $20 shipped, and with the size dimensions of 8.25 inches tall by 9.5 inches wide, I think this may cover the windshield brackets quite nicely and make for a great summer mini-screen.
I'll keep you guys posted with pics of my fitment results. For $20 bucks the risk is well worth it. With the design in mind, it should fit well and quickly to the stock brackets after shield removal, and with the aggressive lines of the number plate, it should contour the front of the bike nicely. ALSO...if this comes in and its a touch too large, they also produce a smaller version that really isn't much smaller, maybe a half inch to an inch smaller all around. Just another thought if things are too large when i fit it up.
Haters gonna' hate of course, but if this works it could easily be a low budget solution to screen removal and cleaning up the front on those Hot days or brisk evening cruises where you want more air flow...
