Good morning all...welcome to Romney Camp N Ride 2017. Yesterday turned out to be a gorgeous spring day and perfect evening. This morning's rain will end and we should have another good day.
At the fire last night Wreckchecker and I received a pretty useful caution. With all the rain that has fallen in the last few days there will likely be new temporary waterfalls all around the region. It also means there will be debris washed out into the roads in random places. Please be aware the potential for that next blind corner to have some gravel, rocks, or mud waiting to greet you and you round the corner. Since many of the riders here will not be reading this, please alert the members of your group ride to this potential issue.
Children among us. This afternoon around 2:00 we are expecting some of the children from The Potomac Center to join us. They be lead across their field (where you're camping) to see our event, sit on some motorcycles, and experience what we are doing. Some have already volunteered to make their bikes available for the kids to sit on and allow them to dream about riding. I don't know how many kids we are expecting. Please be watching for them. The children helped by The Potomac Center have intellectual / developmental disabilities. I think it's awesome we have the opportunity to share our passion for motorcycles with these kids and maybe spark something inside some of them. Please do keep an eye out for them.
Speaking of The Potomac Center, we have had some generous donations so far and we're off to a good start. Still a big mountain to climb if we are going to beat last year's number, but the trend is going the right direction. I hope you'll join us in making this another record year. Raffle tickets are on sale at the sign up desk. You will also have the opportunity to purchase tickets right up until the raffle after tonight's sponsored dinner. This year the grand prize is a Hellite inflatable vest donated by Kawasaki. They have also donated two riding jackets. You do not need to be present to win...but it's always a good time, so plan to be there if you can.
T-Shirt sales...we have extra T-shirts for sale this year. Our shirt manufacture (InhouseBob from ADVrider) has generously donated a considerable number of extra shirts for sale this year. All the proceeds from extra shirts will go to the Potomac Center. Shirts are only $15 for a short sleeve, $17 for long.
For those who have not signed up yet, please do come into the Service door today to sign in to get your wrist band. The wrist band is your meal ticket for this evening. Romney Cycles is once again sponsoring the dinner for tonight. The raffle will follow shortly after the dinner.
Speaking of Romney Cycles... I know that Kevin (owner), Larry (GM), Heather, and probably more staff will be joining us after they close the dealership this evening. It's their chance to take a breath after work and get to know us. Everything you see at the Camp N Ride is sponsored by Romney Cycles. If you are enjoying your time here, please don't be shy about letting them know you appreciate all they have done to make this happen. This event does not happen without them.
Have a great day everyone.
