That weather forecast works! Looks like four of us from Derby City and word has it that Anthony is bring some special brown from Kentucky. Got to travel with bourbon you know.

1. Anyone else arriving in the area on Thursday?
2. Any suggestions for how to get there from NJ? I realize 78-81 and then head to WV is the most obvious way, but is there anything noteworthy on the way?

When I picked up my bike at Romneys (trailered it) I bombed down 81 to 50West. It was about 4 hours for me, a little more for you. Obviously, you may want to find a few more back roads if you don't need to be there till later in the day. That should be pretty easy to find nice roads once you get into the area.avc8130 said:Any suggestions for how to get there from NJ? Where is Baltimore? LOLCheckswrecks said:Coming from the east, your biggest potential problem is Baltimore rush hour traffic. After that, the easiest slab way is to just run I-70 to Cumberland and ride down Route 28. Romney Cycles is on your right as you enter town.
IF you are out of rush hours and for about the same driving time (Google lies), it's nicer to come in through Frederick, MD, taking 340 through Harpers Ferry WV, then 50 west from Leesburg, VA. Rush can put a lot of commuters heading west out of Leesburg.
On the way from the east is a good brewery in old town Frederick, photos and a couple of places to eat in Harpers Ferry, the Antiedam battlefields, and food in Shepherdstown.
I have foreign guests through Friday afternoon so will arrive Friday around dusk.

Coming from North NJ there is no reason for me to deal with Philly or Baltimore to get to WV. I'll swoop down through PA and the worst I'll have to deal with is Harrisburg maybe.Checkswrecks said:For traffic F-ups, you might recognize it as Philly South.

I got my scouting ride in Friday and Saturday and will have both all-road or a mix of road & dirt in the GPS. I'll keep it entertaining but am not looking for racing or hard-core dirt rides with strangers. Otherwise, if anybody wants a smallish group, we can talk at Friday's camp fire.
Thanks for the update. Look for the same event same time next year. Ride safe.FLEX said:My "maybe can make it" turned into a "can't make it". Will look to see if this event returns for next year. Was looking forward to seeing a large assembly of Teneres and enthusiasts. Will eventually make an event. Happy trails to all planning to attend.
How is the area in general? My experience in most parts of the country is that any time the speed limit DROPS you better slow the heck down. Then, once you clear "town" and the speed limits near 50 things are "ok".Dirt_Dad said:I want to echo a caution that Checkswrecks has said before, Capon Bridge, a town is about 15 miles east of Romney on Rt 50 is a notorious speed trap town. Do not speed there.
Yeah, we plan to ride down Thursday. I'm not sure what time we will arrive, I need to swap tires on Swampy's bike before we leave and then we are looking at ~5 hours taking the quickest route. Hopefully we get there before dark so we can setup the tent without too much cursing and yelling.twodogs said:Hey AVC8130,
Current plans are to be arriving in Romney Thursday evening. I'll be coming out of Southern Ohio but I don't know the exact arrival time as I hope to stop and see family along the way. I'm meeting my wife's brother-in-law Thursday (He's coming out of the DC area) and then plan to go towards the Moorefield, Petersburg and points South on Friday for a days riding.
No tenting this trip, will be staying at the Koolwink (located on the right when you come into town from the East on US50). I'm assuming you'll be tenting so when I arrive in Romney I'll swing by the shop and check the camp site and see if you've arrived. Don't know what type of riding your looking for but perhaps we could get together Friday AM if I miss you Thursday evening.
