Oh sweet, I get to be the first after the event to say this:

THANK YOU VERY MUCH TO ROMNEY AND DIRT DAD!

The event was AWESOME.

We all REALLY appreciate the hard work to put on an event like this.

I'll be back next year...maybe sooner!

Thanks DD, Kevin, Larry and the whole Romney Cycles team. What a great time! Anthony, Brennan and myself got back to Louisville safe and sound. Anthony almost didn't when a sheet of rotted plywood flew off a derelict camper on 50 in Ohio. Just missed him. Whew!

Pics later...I'm beat.

Good weather, good food, good roads, good people, and over the top hospitality from Romney Cycles made this another great Camp N Ride event.

At sunrise on Saturday morning I counted 63 bikes. I was told there were another 12 bikes at the sold out KoolWink. I have not heard an estimated count from the South Branch Inn, but I'm pretty sure there were some riders staying there as well. I know there were a few others expected to join us during the day Saturday. Safe to say we had well over 80 riders for this year. Counting adventure riders is a bit like herding cats It's not an easy task.

A few wrap up comments (okay - you all know me by now...it may be more than a few)

Romney Cycles - How do you say thank you enough to a first class organization that sponsored and executed such a well run event, at zero cost to any of the participants? Where else does that happen?
Of course the entire staff was great, but I do need to call out a couple.
Thanks to Heather for doing a great job with selling the raffle tickets.
Thanks to Larry for all the effort to pull together this event. Even I don't know all that he did behind the scenes to make this event so successful...and he's far to modest to tell me.
Thanks to Kevin, the owner of Romney Cycles. His attitude and way of doing business is the reason this event, and the extraordinary dealership you saw this weekend even exist.
Please think of them when you're considering your next bike.

Charity - This was a big success. Between all of us at the event and a few who also donated via mail or sending me a PayPal, there was over $600 in donations collected. Add to that Kevin volunteering to have Romney Cycles match the contributions means over $1,200 going to the West Virginia School for the Deaf and Blind. Thanks to everyone who participated.
Our shirt winner was RudderFeet from Stromtrooper. He told me this was a trip of many first for him. First time he has ridden so far from home. First time he's ridden for more than half a day, and other new experiences. Somehow it seems right having the shirt pass from our veteran adventure rider buddy, to a new, budding adventure rider. Congrats RudderFeet, and thanks Trevor.

The Shirt - For anyone interested in buying the shirt it is available at:
https://apps.facebook.com/facileme/fapage/detalhes/322077

Ride Leaders - Thanks to all of you. I didn't hear of anyone that was unable to find a good ride situation on Saturday. I really appreciate all of you that stepped up to include people looking for a ride. I hope you'll consider doing it again next year.

Injury - As many of you know there was a rider who had a significant injury as the result of a low side accident on Greenland Gap road. I don't know his screen name, but I do know his name is Ed, and I did have an opportunity to meet his wife Saturday evening. Ed is expected to be released from the hospital on Monday and the prognosis is good. Beyond that I would prefer to leave details for Ed to share if he so chooses.
Ed, if there is anything I can do for you please just send me a PM. I'm sure I am not alone in wishing you a full and speedy recovery.

Event T-Shirts - Romney is not planning to do the free t-shirts this year. I think everyone can understand the expense of doing shirts and mailing for this size a group has reached a cost prohibitive point.

Donated Coffee - thanks to H14 from advrider for donating his coffee for the event. It was very popular. Good luck as your business expands, and congrats on the new certification.

The Ruritan Club
- Awesome! Having food on site was wonderful. So glad they agreed to serve again on Sunday. Romney has already signed them up for next year. The Ruritans did make a comment about how many people told them to "keep the change." They are not accustom to that, and really appreciated it.

Cameraman - I'm sure most of you noticed Roadinator from advrider wandering around with professional camera gear. I learned he is a professional videographer with an impressive list of credits to his name. He will be putting together a video from the weekend. I'm really looking forward to seeing what a pro can do.

Dealership snapped photos - Romney will be posting the photos they took on their facebook page. Whatever facebook is??

Please post your photos of the weekend. Let's see the event from your perspective.

Finally, Romney is watching the threads. If you have any suggestions on how to make the event better, post them here. They have already told me they will add wifi next year, and get a bigger propane tank for the showers.

Thanks for coming everyone. Please pencil in the first weekend in May, 2015 for the next event. By the way...we need ride leaders for that one, too. ;D

I have a few suggestions, realize they are NOT criticisms.

1. "doors" on the shower. The showers were an awesome and welcome feature, but I know I may have given a few guys playing cornhole a bit more beanbag show than they might have been hoping for when the wind picked up. ::025::

2. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE...MORE STUFF TO BUY! Event T shirts are a MUST. I don't want it for free, but I want an event T shirt. It's the only way I wind up with any new clothes in my wardrobe! A "Romney Rally" sticker would be cool too. Again, NOT FREE, take my money!

My 2nd visit; first class event, first class dealership, first class riding (Louisville is only 350 miles away but somehow, it took us 800 miles to get there) and first class people.

Thanks to everyone who put this on..

I want to echo the BIG thanks to everybody at Romney Cycles, Dirt Dad, and what a GREAT crowd. We were last to leave and proud to say that we didn't have to pick up any wrappers, trash, bottles, NOTHING. That speaks to the kind of people we had there!

The Sunday dawn count at the tents that I had was:
21 VStroms
12 Super Teneres
7 KLR
5 BMW GS/GSA
5 DR 400/650
2 BMW road bikes
2 Triumph
1 KTM
1 FJR
1 VFR

A couple of notes for next year and after discussions regarding improvements:

1. We intend to create a ride leader and responder document, which we will make available to all. We want to keep this as informal and personal as possible and not create some organized event. At the same time, people riding together ought to have a few basics about the names of who they are with, what to do in case of an accident, etc.

2. We DO plan to have shirts next year and not put the burden on Kevin's staff or wallet. (He has paid for all of our shirts and postage till now!!!) The current idea is to sell them and donate proceeds to the charity of choice for Romney Cycles.

3. People with ATT phones were getting signal, and others were on roaming. I was in a discussion with people talking about surprise at how fast their batteries went down, as the phones tried to look for a tower. Larry said that he will try to put a wifi hub near the charging station for us.

Again, THANKS to Kevin, Larry, Jon, and everybody else for a wonderful weekend!

Looking forward o getting a shirt next year! This was a great event in a great location. Romney is just moments away from amazing roads and it's well worth the travel time to get there. The NY riders I was with all had an awesome experience. Dirt Dad and Romney Cycles managed to pull off a succesful event with a minimum of "rules" and formalities. I understand the litigious nature of our society so this is no esy task. Thanks again for arranging a great weekend. ::003::

One suggestion I thought of was to have some "fun" events with the bikes:

1. Slow race (who could ride 100 yards in the parking lot in the LONGEST time)
2. Photo scavenger hunt/poker run?

Excellent! That was a lesson that I learned Saturday. (Being the leader of the small group that included our crash victim Ed.) We managed but having that essential info BEFORE a time of crisis would be very helpful.

We had 2 S10s & 2 Wees (when we started)

left our other Wee rider/right S10er, "mcbrien"

I want to add my thanks to DirtDad & the Romney crew who all did a fantastic job!

I also want to say thank you to the locals & volunteer responders who showed up @ the crash scene so quickly and handled Ed with extreme care & courtesy. Of course they are not gonna be reading this but everyone on here should know that (at least in that part of WV boonies) they have their $hit together!!)

Great stuff guys!

I spoke to Edson who donated the raffle shirt to me (and who appears on the front of it), he was thrilled to hear that it raised so much money. Don't be surprised if you see a note from him in the Vendors section. If you want a shirt you can contact him, I think shipping from Brazil would be $10-15. I daresay he can make you a custom one if you send him the image...

I had a chance to talk things over with Checkswrecks regarding the accident. As a person who has a career related to accidents there was no one better for me to speak with. He immediately has some valuable suggestions. Later he shared some other ideas with me. I hold CW (Bob) in the highest regard and I was very pleased when he agreed to join me and lend his expertise to the 2015 effort. At the rate this event is growing I couldn't be happier to have his participation in the coordination effort.

Somehow it all seem right having Bob in this role. As this file photo shows, he belongs in this role.

This shot of Bob, Trevor and me was taken after we left Romney Cycles back in 2012.

Trevor, thanks for coming up with the charity idea, and of course, donating the prize. The shirt was very popular around the camp this weekend. We missed you, buddy. But rest assured, your name was brought up a lot this weekend.

Come on S10 pilots...where are the photos? ADV is pretty active with photos from the weekend. Are you going to let them beat us?

Can't believe how this event has grown in just a few short years. Do you think I can change my son's birthday to another date? :D I'm going to have to drag him down to this event next as part of his birthday present.
Glad to hear that the inmate that crashed will be alright. ::008::
