The big companies need to hire you as a torture tester.

Thanks for the photos. A couple of thoughts:

We generally park our bikes on the big round rubber parts and keep the shiny side up.

Clearly this is the shy retiring crowd.

Here's a song for next time you do this:

Some may think that flat tire on your African Twin test ride would indicate you are a magnet for poor luck.

Alas Martin, it might be good news. Because.......THAT'S THREE!!
You're done.
You're now probably the luckiest guy for the next decade or so. ::012::

Great pics! Looks like a fine crew of misfits.
And your wife......well, yea, you are a blessed man indeed.

So, if you buy that Honda, you gonna do something about those tubes? 8)
I could easily tolerate that chain. But those tubes.......I don't know.

As far as being a traitor, well actually you are. Lol
But you can solve that by getting another one soon enough. Surely you aren't claiming that AT is the last bike you'll ever ride?

In fact, keep that AT and once you get another Tenere I'll have a great excuse to go ADVing in South America? Winkwink.

Hello Snakebitten,
Would be great if you visit us.
First thing I will do with the AT is to convert the tubes wheel into tubeless. Various friends have done it.
Cheers

She Lives!

So Martin, mi amigo, while things didn't go exactly in your favor, (although the whole story has yet to be completed) rest easy that the Texas donar-patient is healthy and ready to hit the trails.

Looks like I won't have to snatch DirtDads trade-in for Romney. Lol
I was kinda looking forward to scratching it up real good just to see him watch one of his old horses get thrashed. ;)

Glad to know that the Texan donar is fully recovered and ready for the comming adventure. ::012:: ::012:: ::012::

The Santiago Yamaha Shop will start working in my bike next week. Will share with all of you what happened. Since I do not want to be treated as traitor, I will wait my bike that will be properly repaired. ::26::

My trip to the "Carretera Austral" was postponed until Nov or Dec.

I changed a mechanical incident by a wonderfull story.
Texans and Chileans has much more than our flags in common. I am waiting for you Snakebitten.
This story continues......

Texas\Chili Flags are too cool! I had no idea.

Carretera Austral? I looked it up:

The Carretera Austral (CH-7), is the name given to Chile's Route 7. It runs for 1240 km from Puerto Montt in the north to Villa O'Higgins in the south. Some call it the road after the end of the road, because it is not officially part of the Panamerican Highway that ends on the island of Chiloe Island. Construction of the road started in the 1970s and is still going on. It passes through very beautiful and sparsely populated parts of Chile. Landscapes vary from forests and fjords to spectacular mountains, glaciers and volcanoes.
The road conditions range from very bad to normal paved road (around Chaitén and Coyhaique). Parts of the road are gravel (ripio in Spanish) ranging from quite good quality to absolutely horrible.

Oh man, that sounds fantastic!

Last news about the damaged motor.
Finally it was disassembled.
Due to lack of lubrication between the Crankshaft and the Plane Bearing of the Connecting Rod, both parts were damaged in one cylinder.
It is needed to change the crankshaft, one connecting rod and all plane bearings. Rest of parts of the motor are in good condition.
It is not clear if the metal parts founded correspond to the plane bearing or rest of clutch that ended there.
The most probable cause is that metal stuff that came from the clutch plugged the lubrication circuit to the damaged.
On Friday I will know how long takes the import of the parts.

Plenty of time until November to go to the postponed trip to Carretera Auatra.

Well congratulations mi amigo. That is the only Super Tenere I know of to require the engine cases to be opened up.
I'm not saying it is the only one ever, but definitely rare. Or certainly not documented around here at Super Tenere World Headquarters. :)

Kind of makes an oil pump replacement feel like out-patient surgery. Lol

I continue to wish you the best Martin.

Clutch - Oil Pump - End of story.
After a long process Yamaha Japan denied treating the repair of the motor under the guarantee since I did the work.
Yamaha Chile has being very supportive with my case and ended offering me a very good package. They took my damaged bike as downpayment, offered me a new 2017 Eruro 4 Supertenere (European model) with a US$ 1.500 discount, transferring all the accessories of the old to the new bike and giving me a reasonable price for the old one. It will be a blue one, the only color that arrived.. I will pay the repair of the motor also with a good discount.
See picture of the new toy.

Thank you to all who participated in this topic with ideas and suggestions.

Special thanks to tabasco who sent me a clutch plate (for free) and to Snakebitten who sent me an oil pump when I was in a hurry trying the repair the old Supertenere in order to start to a dreamed adventure that finally was postponed to the end of this year. Two excellent forum friends that I would like to meet in the future.
