I sent Rick at Xplorermoto an email inquiring about a group buy. Here is the response:

James, due to the current economic conditions & despite recieving 2 price increases for steel & aluminum, we aren't offering discounts at this time. Jesse has decided to hold pricing ILO having a price increase, then offer a discount, only to be priced where we are currently. I would recommend getting back to me with a head count of committed buyers, & we can look at the possibility of some sort of a discount. James, the major problem with group buys for vendors, is that a discount is offered for a certain number of buyers. Then when it comes time to actually gather funds, several "committed" buyers back out for whatever reason, leaving the vendor to absorb the loss. If we able to offer a discount, the entire package would need to be charged to 1 card, thus eliminating the risk of buyers backing out.

So, in order to get the ball rolling and see what kind of true demand there is, who out there has decided to buy Jesse bags (but has not ordered yet) and could commit to an order?

Count me in for 1 (Odyssey II in black)

I still havent made a decision concerning bags.
I could be interested depending on price, although I can't imagine them discounting much.

Wish I had not already committed to teh OEM bags. I like the 9" Safari bags a lot and would like to know the total package price for them. If the price is right I might buy the 9" Safari bags and sell the OEM bags.

Here is the link to Jesse Luggage Systems / Yamaha Super Tenere http://www.jesseluggage.com/yamaha.html

edit: I would consider a Top Box for extended travel.

Also interested depending on price. Seems like we have a Catch 22 thing going on here. I suspect there is lots of interest in these quality bags, but most are reluctant to make a "hard" commitment without knowing price. I think the vendor should firm up a group buy offer, assuming a "hard commitment" at various levels of buyers (10, 15, 20, 25). I participated in a Russell Day-Long saddle group buy a few years ago that was structured like that with increasing levels of discount as the volume increased. The additional discount for the higher tiers encouraged the hesitant ones to jump on board to their benefit and the early adopters as well. Instead of requiring all to be purchased on one card, the vendor could require a non-refundable deposit upon original order on each buyer's own card locking the buyer into the order. With a little creativity and flexibility, we can make this a win-win for the vendor and the group. JMHO

I am in for 1 pair of Odyssey II in black. Who will really pony up their Credit card to cover everyone??? I don't see that happening.

I think I want the Safari 9" in silver but may be fooling myself witha a bag too small and really want the Odessey in silver. ::) I am definately buying Jesses' in silver, just not sure of the size yet. I have even considered riding to Phoenix from Sacramento just to compare the different sizes

I'll probably be making my purchase this Spring, after taxes, after they've broadened their selection a bit. 105 litres is a bit sizable for me, do-able, but sizable. I'm thinking of playing around with a Pelican/Caribou top box to get by. Discovered yesterday I really need to bring my "stuff" with me when I ride.

OK, so far here is the tally:

YES: 3
Maybe (depends on price) : 4

I will contact Rick again and see if he can give us a tiered pricing model. As far as putting it all on one credit card, not sure there yet.... we will have to figure that one out.

Jesse is at the top of my list, and if there is a group buy that even better.....have not decid3d on which ones, the 10" Odyssey or the 9" Safari, leaning towards the Safari! Depends on pricing.

Tomatocity mentioned the Safari bags as well. AFAIK they do not have them for the Super Ten yet. They plan to... but Jesses are known for long lead times on stuff. If they are selling plenty of the Odysseys (and they appear to be, Rick says they sold 100 sets) then I don't see them being in any rush to get the Safaris out.

I'd say anyone who thinks they want Safaris needs to start lobbying for them NOW. BTW, they will be probably $200 more expensive than Odysseys (per Rick).

Cool! They are not showing on the xplorermoto site yet (which is where you have to buy them), but I guess the fact that the have them on the jesse site means they are not far off. Yes I would have considered the 9" Safaris too - they are real skinny for the capacity.

What is the combined capacity of the 9" Sarfaris? I don't see it listed.

Here'e there original press release, which give the capacities.

One thing new I notice in the pics on the Jesse site - the grab rails have been retained, contrary to the original plan that they would have to go.

Yup, there's my size, the 90 litre pair. Prolly doesn't matter a whole bunch if they make the Odyssey in 90 or the Safari. I do like the lines of the Safari a tiny bit better. By March/April 2012 and I'm golden.

Here are the pics off the Jesse site of the 9" Safari bags!

Nice & narrow. Check out the front view pic...you can hardly see the bags.

Yep, sure looks that way. The options just keep getting better and better. The 9" Safaris are my new pick.
