Furloughed since 10/1/13. Got a half-paycheck on Tuesday and will get none on the next payday. Drove 1750 miles to reclaim a flooded house in Colorado without FEMA, insurance or SBA assistance. This'll cost most of the cash I had set aside 'in case of emergency' and has run some credit cards back up. Spent a couple of days talking to creditors and bankers about making 'adjustments' to help out the immediate cash flow issues and hoping I can still make a rather large payment for my granddaughter's college opportunity. Impact on us? Yes, .. it's quite uncomfortable right now and although I am hearing that it may end tonight or tomorrow it has been a pretty big stress all the way around. The Tenere may end up in the 'For Sale' section if this doesn't get settled in a week.
I neither know nor care about the politics at that level. I provide program management for a national training program for the F.A.A. and was furloughed with basically my whole division. I do know that the only real voice I have in this is through letters and calls to my representative(s) and my vote next time. I won't forget this little debacle though. Frustrating is a pretty weak term for us; we're both pretty fed up.
