I work at Los Alamos national Lab as a contractor for the last 7.5 years, I could be seeing the end of my riding days if the Congress Monkeys don't throw some Bananas down from the tree soon, I will have to start selling stuff.
I have till the 18th of this month.

Anybody falling in the cross hairs on this one? :'(

I'm not furloughed, yet, but I'm also caught up in the lack of common sense by both the legislative and executive branches of government. However my wife is furloughed. If this keeps up, my issue is cash flow. It appears the Federal employees will be reimbursed. Which begs the question, why not keep working. Can't they amend the Anti-Deficiency Act to allow this?

I feel worse for the contractor employees. When the funds run out, they can get laid off without pay, and most likely without any reimbursement. And it had/has nothing to do with their work performance.

I'm quite  about this.

As a Canadian, this has no direct effect on me, but I am distressed to see my friends south of the border in such a dysfunctional state. America is, and has been for a very long time, the acknowledged leader of the free world, and your nation is now in disarray because of this power struggle between the executive and legislative branches. I would like to extend my sincere sympathy and best wishes to everyone who has been caught in the middle of this mess, and I also hope both sides can set aside ideological differences long enough to see what they are doing to real people.
Best regards,
Bruce

It hasn't....yet. I'm considered "excepted", so essentially I'm working like the horse with a carrot dangling in front his face, but luckily have enough saved up to be ok for awhile. If this drags on...who knows.

Whatever way you vote, Congress has an approval rating of 9% (or less...). Congressional incumbent reelection is 90%. So either sheeple don't think it's THEIR representative ::) (and by representative, I mean representative of special interests), or they're fools.

Remember that fact come your next visit to the voting booth...

It's not affecting me, other than I keep paying taxes and the government keeps spending it on all the wrong stuff.

Minimal impact here. Nothing of significance. Can't get into the National Parks or Recreation areas, they have them blocked off and guarded. Makes me want to ask why the guy thinks he's special that's getting paid to guard, instead of getting paid to do his normal gig. Not his issue though. State parks are reaping rewards though. All the Vegas Tour groups are going to state parks with all the tourists that have long scheduled tours. Lots of pissed off people.

I have a NP annual pass, but had to pay $10 a bike to go thru the state park because the road along Lake Mead in NV was closed because of this. Nothing like the people not getting paid, but the secondary impacts of the closures are going to be unpleasant. The NP system is losing millions of dollars in revenue while closed. Because the politicians think making it impact the public will somehow help them, instead we think they are all stupid... wait, they are. Politicians should be shot. And clear understanding that it's no longer a career, but something you do in the service of your country, then go back to your real job after one term.

And yes, the sheeple are stupid. All they can see is their pork, and have no concerns for the over all picture.

I was on furlough last week. Recalled this week. As a self-employed contractor it is strictly no work, no pay. Trying to figure out how to meet existing deadlines I'll be making up the missed time very quickly.

I pray and wish the best for all those that are affected by this and hope all is resolved soon.

If I expressed my true feelings about the goings on in Washington it would be like ::002:: or ::010:: or make some  and ban me from the forum :) so I won't. I will vote and do my part!

I was thinking about starting a thread the other day to congratulate this forum on staying clear of politics. That is really one thing that I don't come here for. Now, I can't congratulate anyone for that reason but I can for non partisan conversation on the topic. I hope we can stay out of the mud and ::021::

Agreed; and being a libertarian I'd just piss everyone off.

I hope I can say this without sounding like a pompass ass...but...don't you have any emergency cash put away?

I depend on commission for 75% of my income so because my sales can be like a roller coaster due to the variable farm economy I'd be screwed without at least three months income put away at all times.

I guess too many in this country are running thier household budgets like congress.

Saying all that, I sure hope you all get back to work soon.

I've turned into exactly what I used to recruit folks not to be. An ostrich. I bury my head as deep in the sand as turning the channel on the TV and radio will let me.

I obviously will still be a good citizen. Taxes and voting and generally supporting my local community. But I will NOT digest a single minute of the debate. Can't stomach the pre-packaged spin by any of them.

Having said that, I too feel for the guys and gals caught in the crossfire.
Sooner or later, i think we will all be directly affected. This thing is gonna reboot. :)

Furloughed here. As for those guarding the National Parks, they are following orders, regulations and law, without a paycheck and little appreciation.

I think many in this country feel the same and the sad part is it didn't have to come to this at all. I just hope the reboot won't be as bad as I think it will be for many. :(

It's still a great country. A bit fat and entitled, but filled with amazing folks.
If it reboots, I'm thinking we'll mostly be in it together. History implies we'll show some spine. We could sure use some right now.
