I've got both a Shoei Neotec and a Schuberth C3. They both are quality helmets and each has pluses and minuses when compared to each other.

The Neotec has more effective vents than the C3 and unlike the Schuberth the shield indents are strong enough to allow the shield to stay open at highway speeds. The C3's shield can't take much wind pressure before closing.

The Schuberth is noticeably lighter than the Neotec (about 200 grams) and physically less bulbous, and my Sena speakers sound much better (more bass and tone) in the C3 than they do in the Neotec. The Schuberth's speaker cups are backed with foam while the Neotec's have a plastic liner, I'm guessing that might account for the difference.

I wear a Schuberth C3 and love it. You can easily solve the shield detent issue by using some foam-backed, stick-on felt pads. You can get 'em at any home supply store. You need the ones that are 1.0" (25.4mm) in diameter. Pop your C3 shield off and then stick one of the felt pads on the center of the shield pivot assembly on the side of the helmet, right over the little allen/hex head screw in the middle. Put one on each side of the helmet, them re-mount your face shield, and... Violá! Now the shield stays where you put it at any speed. ::008::

Over time the felt pads will compress and not provide as much tension as they did at first. Mine last about three or four months, and then I replace 'em. Not a big deal, though, as it takes only a couple of minutes, and the felt pads are super-cheap. When I first heard of the mod I was skeptical and bought a little package of like 4 of the pads for like a dollar, but once I realized it worked I saw a package of like 50 of the pads for something like $4.00. Now I replace the pads whenever they lose some tension *OR* before any long trip.

Works a treat! :)

One tip - Do *NOT* get the rubber ones they make that look similar. On the surface one would think they work better, but they don't... At least in my experience. The rubber ones are more expensive, don't provide as much tension IMHO, and just don't work as smoothly as the felt ones.

Just FYI... Hope it helps you!

Found out today I have a Shuberth C3 head, dang nab it. Rode to the nearest dealer to try helmets today (230 miles away in SLC) and left with a new hi viz C3. Stopped at the Red Iguana for some almond mole sirloin tips, mmmmm then back home. Glad I rode down there using my oldest natty helmet. Left it there :D Oh the Neotec is not for my head although a nice helmet. Little heavier than the C3.

Was fun showing up the the BMW dealership with my S10 wearing the Klim Latitude kit. Kind of an enigma there. A train of people were checking out the bike, asking question, etc. including some employees.

All in all a nice little day ride all be it a tad expensive.

BTDT - rode with a friend to Tampa to pick up his new Street Triple at a BMW/Triumph/Ducati place. Lots of eye candy at this dealership, but everyone was roaming around the Tenere and asking lots of questions about it. I think every employee at the place made it by to have a peek - nice folks that had never seen one in person. Pretty cool when your bike is the main attraction while sitting 30 feet from a MV Agusta...

The Nolan N90 did not have pockets for speakers so that one is out.
The one in my local dealer does, they even removed the lining to show me them (plus you could feel them anyway) they need them for the Nolan comms system which it has a compartment for so would be stupid not to have speaker pockets

Recently bought two R-Pha Max helmets, on the way back from the dealer it pissed with rain and the Mrs one leaked, the UK importer had it back for a week and "fixed it", next time out it let in so much wind the Mrs could not keep her eyes open at speed (good job she was on the back )

Anyway we returned hers for a refund, I have persevered, but this lid does not have any speaker pockets - or at least not where your ears are, there are two circular areas that look like speaker pockets, but they are by your temples and even if you do put speakers in they press into your head (Autocom speakers) Ideally they need to be where the chinstrap runs so you can't get them in very well.

It is very light and comes with pinlock, integral sunshield (far too light a tint for my liking though - but at least it comes down properly, many only half cover your field of vision) The only other gripe is despite having a small the strap even at tightest is a shade loose, just too long, i reckon they use the same strap part for those with larger heads (pr more chins) than me.

Overall very dissapointed, if this was priced at £200 I could accept the shortcomings, at a £360 list price it is too pricey for what you get. I now want to rip out the Autocom and turn it into a lid I will use when I don't want music / comms (shorter one up trips) and get a new lid for touring and long runs.

I do really like flips now, last change (Schuberth S1) was first integral sun shield for me and now I can't do without it, same goes for flip fronts now I have had one, just so nice to get some nice air as soon as you stop, and to be able to wander about briefly without a lid "in your face" so to speak, like buying fuel / asking directions / having a quick drink / pee (so hard to make sure your not gonna piss your pants with a full face lid on)

I liked the N90 for the money and may get one at this years bike show if a deal can be found, would love a Multi-tec or C3, but they are the sort of cash I never spend on a Helmet, would rather buy cheaper and change more often (same as my theory on crazily expensive oils)

I am aware of the Schuberth chin strap issue, my S1 cut a little deep into Adams Apple, there is a procedure apparently, but I don't want to go there, but I know I can live with this as my S1 was OK when I got used to it. The reason is Schuberth's system is designed to prevent lids coming off in a crash.

So unless someone is doing crazy clearance prices on C3 or Multi-tec I reckon it will be a Nolan N90 - which got a good web bike world write up, and Nolan were early adopters of flip fronts so seem to be stronger in this segment than their pricing would suggest.

I have always worn Arai. Fit and quality and I feel safe in them. I have done touring and road racing and crashed twice road racing. Never an issue with them.....BUT..... in June just before my Alaska trip I got the new Shoei NeoTech. I now have 11,000 miles wearing that helmet including the 9,000 miles in 20 days on the Alaska trip. Wore that helmet 9- 12 hours a day for 19 days and loved it. ::012:: As much as I admire Arai, I wil be wearing a flip style helmet forever. It is so nice to be able to flip it up in slow traffic, at gas stops, eating and drinking on the fly. For our summers with temperatures in the 100's nothing beats flipping that helment open.

There is nothing I dislike about that helment. Noise control is good, ventilation is great, fit for me is perfect and I love the flip down dark screen. At first I thought it was too "fighter pilot" cute but after using it I am sold on it. No need for carrying a dark screen. No need to stop and put on sunglasses. Every helment should come standard with this feature

+10 for this helment

I wear the HJC IS BT-Max. Very comfortable, with very good ventilation. The "integrated shield" spring retractable sunshade is excellent.

I've an HJC as well, I like it well enough, and the price point was attaxtive when buying two at a time. I like the flip-down visor as well, although it cuts pretty close in on your face if you're wearing glasses. I have to make sure my glasses are pegged against my eye sockets and tilt the helmet ever so slightly forward to get it to work, but it is better than having to stop and put the clip-ons in place, or switch glasses. Helmet's noisy though. Lots of wind noise compared to my previous ones.

An experienced riding buddy advised me that noise goes with the territory when you want good ventilation. Our 110F+ degree summer days make ventilation top priority for me. I've worked in and around loud machines my whole life, so I'm probably less sensitive to noise than most people.

I just recently replaced my Voss flip style helmet. The chin bar and face shield are in a Shell Station trash can somewhere in New Mexico. I replaced this lid with a 7 Zero 7 full face helmet. So far so good on the new one.

I have tried on several modulars but I am cursed with an Arai only shaped head!! All had a nasty pressure point on the forehead. May try that new Arai open face with the flip up shield, if I can find a place to actually try one on before I buy.

I thank you for the attempt at help, but HJC has 3 modular helmets, the sy-max, is-max, and a new one, the RPHA-max. The RPH line of helmets are a new trio for HJC of very high end helmets. They are very new, and I am not sure that many people even have them yet.

I thought you were asking about the R-Pha Max, just from your question:-

anyone using the HJC rpha-max
This is the one I bought (two of them in fact - one for the Mrs as well) and it was the R-Pha max I commented upon, I am not gonna type it all again for anyone who can't be bothered to scroll up and read it  but the clue was in one of my opening paragraphs..

Recently bought two R-Pha Max helmets
I thought that made it quite plain as to the exact model i was talking about

RPHA Helmet, missed review.

Yeah, went up 6 and found arai. Saw someone else posting about one of the other is/sy max helemts, didn't see yours talking about the RPHA as I missed the once you mentioned it as i was scanning the pages and saw nolan, shuberth, and multitec in type in your posting. I apologize for missing your posts, and for not reading the 10 pages of comments to full content.

Edit:
Used the forum search tool, searching for both RPHA and RPHA-Max and found only the results for which I had posts. This very well could be why I didn't find yours, as I use ctrl+f as well as searches to find info, and if it is typed in improperly, the results dont show it.
