The more research I do, the more it seems either a Neotec or C3 is what will really make me happy - odd how they also cost the most ;)

Hoping the International Motorcycle Show here in the UK will have some good deals as I ain't paying full list for either, when Hein Gerricke were having their closing down sale they had some C3's and Neotec's with 30% off - but not in my size :( at those sort of discounts I would have grabbed one.

They had a Neotec that fitted the Mrs, but being female she was insistent on a particular colour, with those sort of savings I always find myself quite agnostic to the colour.

I'm looking for new one as well. C3 claims to be lighter than all. I found that real weight is 50 grams less, then sy-max3 for 400 bucks premium. Is it really worth it? How much quieter would it be? Warranty is just about same. I was thinking of taking a trip to Revzilla in Philly. Help! What would you recommend? I can not find good reliable info to make this decision
I'm using sy-max 2 now and it is noisy, but with earplugs it is tolerable.
I don't have problem with spending $700 on the helmet. Just need to know what I'm getting. A lot of people have problems with sunshield on c3. It drops down with little bump on the road. Might not be safe. Is this issue real of just a troll BS?

I've had the HJC... Had a Schuberth C1 years ago... Caberg after that... Shoei Multi-Tech after that...

Got a Schuberth C3 now, and have been wearing it a year. Best hat I've ever owned. Makes the HJC seem like a toy. Stiffer than the Caberg modular, and stiffer than the Schuberth C1, too. I was a Shoei and Arai guy for decades, but the Shoei Multi-Tech was one of the worst helmets I've ever owned.

Schuberth C3 is very, very quiet, functions perfectly other that the detents on the *MAIN* shield, and no... the internal sun visor *NEVER* drops down unless asked to. And that's from over a year of ownership and over 30,000 miles in 14 months on 3 bikes, on all sorts of roads and all sorts of terrain. The Schuberth internal sun visor is one of the very *BEST* features of the helmet. Once you ride for any length of time with a good, reliable, functional internal sun visor you'll never want to go back to a helmet without one, and you'll wonder why *ALL* helmets don't have such a feature. *AND* it's one of the best safety features of the hat... heading home, late in the day, staring into a setting sun.

The detent issue on the main visor is easily - and cheaply - solved with some felt furniture cushions as detailed elsewhere in this thread.

I love my Schuberth C3... OMMV.

Just FYI.

If you replaced C3 with Neotec in this writeup it would sum up my feelings exactly. Great helmet, quiet, and I concur on the internal sun visor - never want to go back... Pick the one that fits your melon and drop the coin if you have the means - it's worth it!

I have a Fulmer Modular motorcycle helmet ( flip up ). and I can't stand it !! Way to much wind noise in the helmet for my liking. I'm in the market for a new motorcycle helmet and I think this time I will buy my wife and I bluetooth helmets something like these. http://www.motorcycle-superstore.com/1046/MNGR/Bluetooth-Motorcycle-Helmets-at-Motorcycle-Superstore.aspx
The problem with a lot of Modular helmets is the hinge , that's where all the air noise comes from. I don't know if I'll ever purchase one again ???

Yep, having had the Sun Visor on my Schuberth S1 I would never want to go back, and after using the R-Pha Max I feel the same about the flip.

Ignoring the fact a flip will fall apart before a normal helmet (as IMO your head / brain will almost certainly be mush before a cheapo plastic lid falls apart) I have got used to being able to quickly get some cool air around my face and it is a wonderful thing, or having a quick drink / pee / fuel stop without removing the helmet.

I always used to tear my lid off as soon as I stopped anywhere, whereas now I can happily wander about for a while with the lid up, when moving hte lid really does not bother me, but at a standstill I just find them a bit annoying.

I guess, I'm going to have to try them on and see. My syMax is not worth a penny in cold weather. Shield is getting fogged up in a second when stopped. Tried not breathing on the red light... ::005:: kids, never do that. You will pas out. :D
Does anybody know good place to try them on near NYC ?

The best reviews I have found have been at:-

http://www.webbikeworld.com/r2/motorcycle-helmet/schuberth-c3/

http://www.webbikeworld.com/r2/shoei/neotec/

At the show tomorrow, may be tempted by the earlier Multi-tec if I cannot get a great deal on the C3 or Neo, the Shark Evoline 3 is next on the list and the Nolan N90 in last place.

De-soldered an Autocom speaker to take with me so I can make sure the speaker sockets are the right size, the onlt thing that let down my R-Pha Max, which at the time I could find few reviews on, but assumed a "touring orientated" helmet would have speaker pockets (Wrong )

The thing that has ruled many out for me has been sun visors with huge cut-outs, or that only come half way down and get in my eye-line, the Nolan N104 would have been perfect otherwise, and as Web Bike World keep saying - why is it so many lid manufacturers fail to get the basics such as air vents and sun visors right

I have a HJC Sy Max and a SyMax II. I agree with some of the others, the Symax II is noisey at highway speeds, but I really like the flip down dark glasses. I put a dark shield over that it is quite comfortable in the Summer heat of Oklahoma. I like the flip ups when riding with friends, when we stop, you don't have to take them off to talk.

Only managed 30 minutes with my C3.

First impressions are it is very quiet, the Autocom headset fitted in really easily and works very well due to the low noise inside.

Need a bit more time using it to get a better idea of how good it is, but first impressions are it will be a very good touring helmet, but I think the HJC R-Pha max I have will be my preference for short blats, especially now I have taken the headset out.

The HJC is quicker to flip up as it does not have the curtain by the chin like the C3 (I think part of the reason the C3 is so good for noise) and now I have no headset inside will be even easier as I have no Microphone to mess about with (they tend to catch as you filp the lid down.

Will report back after a long run - but that will probably be a few months away now!

Re: Do you wear a 'flip up type' modular helmet ? What brand ?

Just picked up a Neotec over the weekend. Only did a 20 min ride, but I think I'm really going to enjoy it. I tried on the C3 side by side and I don't have a C3
head. But the only personal problem I had with the C3 besides the fit, was the loose fabric for the ear curtains and the very loose detents on the face shield. Besides that it's a well built helmet.

FYI for those with larger heads than the norm.

I tried on every modular helmet (every helmet vendor) at the 2014 Orlando AMEI (sp?) motorcycle show. Also test rode the 2014 S10 demo bike (Raised the seat and wind screen before the ride)

Back to Topic ...

Only the Nolan N104 3XL fit my head..... so bought it and a good helmet with a poorly written manual .... A solid mid price quality helmet

First flip up style helmet was the Caberg Trip many years ago. Bought it in Europe when they (modular) were barely heard of here. Wore it until it fell apart just about 4 years ago. GREAT helmet! Tried a Nolan N90s as a replacement. Seemed good for the first year (albeit heavy). Comfy, quite, well constructed, or so it seemed. Then the sun visor became scratched by the internals. It happened to both mine and my wife's which were bought at the same time. They fixed them, and it happened again to hers. Never bothered her because she barely rode. Mine started falling apart. The liner wouldn't stay tucked and the fabric was wearing prematurely. I sold both helmets and purchased a Shuberth C3pro last December. After about 15k miles and a few Iron Butt rides, I'm pleased as punch. No complaints at all. Fit is great, a tad snug at first, unbelievably quite and unbelievably light compared to the Nolan i had.
Definitely worth the $650. Just FYI, this is the firat premium helmet I have owned, and knowing what I have experienced, would buy another premium lid like the C3pro or Neotec .

Shoei Neotec Modular helmet. Excellent. No fog in 20 degree riding, quite, no wind buffet with it as my dual sport helmet with peak. Use both, depending on what I am doing.

I have the Shoei Multitech which they discontinued. I got it on sale as a close out price. I like it but it fogs in cold weather and there is still wind noise. I wish I had the funds for a C3. I tried one at the Intl bike show a few years back and loved it.

I use the Nolan N104 and really like it. Comfortable and wide angle visibility. It is a bit noisy but I use ear plugs on any trips at hiway speeds. Much nicer than my HJC. I did find it to fit small though. My measurement said to buy a large but it hurt my cheeks and jaw. Bought a XL and perfect fit.

Nolan N104 Update XXXL White

Have been using my new Nolan N104 XXXL helmet for a few months and wanted to share some information.

PRO
1. Great visibility
2. Well made and fairly quiet at speed
3. Fair price for a higher cost modular / flip up helmet
4. Best fit found for my very large head (Tried all modular helmets at the 2014 Orlando Motorcycle Show and this one fit best)
5. Customer Service over the phone is great. They answer and will walk you through any issues you have

CON
1. To install the Sena 20S you have to cut a small slot in the plastic lower black ring. (20 S works well with N104 but at 70 + mph wind drowns out speaker music - intercom and phone works well
2. Last weekend, during a short (150 mile) weekend rider event, the flip up would not flip up. (MFC National Convention)
One side would not unlatch so I cut the trip short and returned home to see what the problem is.
Note: Is is not fun to put on and take off a non flipping up modular helmet .... but better than I-95 helmet less ...

Update:
Took most of the helmet apart and looked for a latch release. None found so ... chin wind guard retention plug damaged from taking the helmet on and off

This AM ... After speaking with the Nolan USA CIMA International Customer service, we could not solve the issue so ...
--- FEDEX shipping helmet to them ... $43 out of pocket ... Should be at there RMA site this Thursday

They told me most repairs take less than a day and repaired helmets are shipped back often within he same 24 hours

..... Will post results with results later .....
