Ordered a Neotec today - should be here Wednesday ::014::

Planning a 720+ mile trial run next weekend to see the folks up in Alabama...

Tried it on at a local Cycle Gear - the medium fits perfect (but a bit snug) as it should pre-breakin. They wouldn't negotiate a penny off the MSRP, as I tried to support local jobs and such - but couldn't justify the $150.00 premium to purchase locally. Revzilla got my dollars, and my new lid should be here Wednesday.

I went to a bike show type thing we have here in the UK called the BMF today. It's on over the weekend and while the displays and shows aren't up to much it's normally a good place to buy kit at good prices. Last year the show seemed smaller than in the past and this year was even smaller, but I still got to try on all the helmets I wanted to such as the schuberth c3, neotec and evo s3.
The c3 was the helmet I thought I'd be buying, but this time the xl just seemed a little to big which I thought would only get worse as the helmet bedded in. I had a plain s1 schuberth in XL that this happened to, but the next helmet was a carbon s1 also in an xl and this felt so much better, teh best helmet I've ever had, but has had a hard life and plenty of miles hence changing it. I couldn't get the c3 in L on my head without taking my ears off. The best price I found was £330 for a c3.
The Evo s3 was okay and certainly lighter than the evo s2, but just didn't seem all that special and the cheapest I found that was £250 in plain colours.
The Neotec was great and seemed the best of the three, but the cheapest I found it was £420.
While looking around I tried on a HJC sy-max3. At first I thought it was their newest rpha max helmet, no name tag, as it felt very light after the evo, but as it was only £99 it was to cheap. Seems like a decent helmet and the fit was good and I was happy with the way the mechanism works. Pity it's only a pinlock ready visor with no insert, but then the evo didn't even have pinlock pins. I'll be riding in it quite a bit this week so will update on how it feels, whether the bargin price is reflected in the quality or not...

Only wore my new sy max3 once last week on a 120m day. The rest of the week was either in a car or a couple of longer days when I wanted music and hadn't gotten around to swopping over my sena.
First thing to note was how easy the visor misted up even though it was quite warm, for us. Later in the day as it reached 23-24c it wasn't a problem, but again this morning it kept misting up. The first indent for the visor is a bit to open for riding at speed, once over 50mph, and could do with a smaller opening as the chin vent couldn't quite cope. The visor has pinlock pins so I will buy the insert as per my previous helmet which never had any issues with misting with the insert in.
Fitted my sena intercom last night and all went in easily with a little triming of the speaker space. As standard these are designed for HJC's own system and slightly to small for the sena speakers. It is attached to the helmet via the clamp and fitted as easily as to the schuberth. The speakers don't line up quite as well with my ears as in the schu, but not enough of a problem for me to carve more out of the helmet lining. I also think they sit a little further from my ears which could also be the problem.
Noise in the helmet is fine and about the same as the schu. I always wear earplugs. The top vent seems to flow as much as the schu, but doesn't make as much noise when open.
Opening and closing the front is easy with the single central button but I always seem to end up having to push the mic back, need to look for somewhere to route it a little better. The internal visor could do with being darker and the slider is a pain being right on top of the helmet, but that will just take getting use to. It comes down further than in the schu which for me is def better.
All in all I'm happy with the helmet, even more so considering the price. The shoei would have been nice, but the hjc cost me less than a quarter of the shoei price and less than a third of a schu c3.

Does HJC still use plastic hinges and latches in the newer Symax helmets ?
I saw a guys Symax helmet fall off the seat of a parked bike, resulting in a broken plastic hinge. Imagine what it would do in a crash.

...went to CycleGear Louisville last Saturday...picked up a 'Bilt' modular for me and the wife.

Got em home and tried mine for a small romp - so totally noisy - took it back Monday. Wife's never fit her well.

Gave me a total refund. If I would get another modular it would be a Shoei.

Aw well...

I've got a Shoei Multitec thats a good helmet but my preferred helmet for the last couple of years is a Shark Evoline 2 that I got a heck of a deal on. I've always worn a large size helmet until these 2, both are mediums and fit really well.

I bought a Nolan ONCE. The shield change took a team of researchers and engineers just to interpret the manual that was about the size of a matchbook and in 12 languages.
I think a part actually broke off while I was trying to do it. After a few attempts I actually went back to the dealership and talked them into taking it back. I contacted the customer service and got a reply.
The shield hardware and removal/installation process seemed extremely difficult for Me but maybe I was doing it wrong. Note to the designers...keep it simple.

Modular, I recently bought an inexpensive Bell Revolver and its a good design for the price, its noisy but it works well and has alot of great features.

I tried on a Bell Revolver one day just because, the first thing I noticed was that there are no relief ports or cut outs in the cheek pads for eye glasses. It was immediately uncomfortable due to this.

So far, so good with my new Shoei Neotec. The good:

-The 'nuetral' (according to WebbikeWold) shape is very confortable on my long oval-shaped head. I was apprehensive before trying it on, because other flip-ups I've tried were shorter from front to back and put way too much pressure on my cheeks and forehead.
-The view port is surprisingly large for a flip-up.
-There is a nice channel in the padding which makes wearing eyeglasses a breeze.
-The flip-up lock, sun visor control and vents are super easy to operate, even with gloves on.
-It is the quietest flip-up I've ever owned.
-The sun visor extends far enough that it doesn't cut into your field of view.
-The pinlock anti-fog visor insert works a treat..it's a godsend. I wasn't ready to believe the hype until I tried it...zero fogging on the insert, even with the
breath guard removed! I'm really happy about that because all of the Shoei helmets I've had in past fogged up the visor way too easily.
-Ear pockets are nice and deep to easily accomodate speakers (Headset is on the way).

Very few negatives, but here a few minor items:

-It's heavier than most standard full-face helmets (duh!).
-The visor removal could be greatly simplified. It's not as difficult as an Arai, but nowhere near as simple as the one button removal on my Sharke RSI.
-Noisier than a good, full-faced helmet (duh!).

Getting us both an HJC R-Pha max next week, tried some on to get sizes but had to order them to get the colour / size combo we wanted.

Will let everyone know how we find them.

I'm on my second Nolan over the years & prolly will get a 3rd soon.
The ratchet strap is my key favorite part of the helmet. I trust it unlike other quick release chin straps, I've seen. It's strong & solid.

When everyone else is busy tying their D-ring's, I'm ready to go. I even take the helmet off while sitting sweating in Florida heat during 8 minute traffic lights.
Light turns green I pop helmet on & zip the ratchet strap tight in a second.

The flip part button is easy smooth, consistant, no problem operation.

The shield mechanism is a bit cheesy & difficult to do but I never have to mess with it until the mechanism fails after a couple of years & Nolan USA sends a new replacement at no charge.
They've done this twice. How many other helmet companies will send you replacement parts at no charge??

Nolans seem to be a round fit, IMO.
The only reason I get another Nolan helmet every few years is because the smell can't be washed out over a few years of dual sport riding.
Any helmet eventually gets too funky.

I've got a Nolan N104 with the N-COM bluetooth. Love it for all the sweet feature.... But find it a bit noisy....

Well after two weeks of research and finally a road trip to Louisville I had the chance to try on on the Neotec, Multitec , N90 and N103. The Shoei lids fit really well for the short time I had them on. The Nolan N90 did not have pockets for speakers so that one is out. The N103 just felt wrong for my head. Pressure on the back and sides of my head . I rode back home with out any of them but stopped by my dealer and got a good price on a Neo . Ordered a light silver one and it will be in when I can get back there next weekend. When I put my cheap helmet back on it felt like a brick box so I think i'll be happy with the Neo.

Couldn't be happier with my Neo. I wrote my initial thoughts on the helmet in the gear section here. If anything I'm happier now a few thousand miles later as it's fully broken in to my head. Best helmet I've ever owned.

Thanks for the link. That is so close to what I'm paying it's spooky. I know the owner of my dealership well and he will give me an awsome discount at times. I think I'm paying right at $520 so I'm happy with that. He even told me if I does not fit after a ride he will get a different size and trade them no charge.
I try to give most of my buisness to Obermeyer Yamaha in Jasper, Indiana.

I have the Sheoi Neotec and I think it is just about as quiet as my Shoei full face TRZ. I bought it over the C3 because of the fit and price difference. I also wanted my J&Mheadset and the Shoei Neotec can be fitted quite easily with J&M's 529 Universal Flip headset. Does not require J&M's installation though I am sure they do a fine installation.

+1. I Just finished 1500 mile trip with the Neotec, and am very satisfied. Comfort level is surprisingly good...maybe just a hair below that of my shark RSI which is the most comfortable helmet I've owned (long-oval shaped head). It comes ready to accept almost any headset, so installation of the Sena headset was a easy peasey. Ventilation also worked a treat, and you can definitely feel the flow on the top of your head when you slide the top vent open.
