I got my Shoei Neotec helmet a few weeks ago and am very satisfied with it.

1. The flip down dark shield works beautifully and truly dispenses with the need for carrying both clear and tinted shields. It's very effective.
2. It comes with the Pin Lock system for the clear shield. I had heard of this but had never seen it "in person" or even given it much thought. It's a very clever way to have a thin profile double shield that is about 99.9% fog proof without chemicals. Again, this feature just plain works as advertised and is very effective.
3. Removable washable liner, speaks for itself
4. Venting: It doesn't move as much air as an X11 but it is a definite improvement over the Multitec. All vents can be operated with gloves no problem
5. One button flip up mechanism works smoothly, no problem with gloves on
6. Noise, I wear ear plugs so it's plenty quiet with those in. It's noisier than an X11
7. Value: always subjective. It's not cheap but is beautifully built with flawless finish and first class materials

Shoeis have always fit me well and this one is no exception. Sizing is same as other Shoei helmets. I got the yellow in hopes it'll help keep me a bit more visible.

Very nice input 20V. In reference to fit, I found the Multitech to fit my oval head better than previous Shoei helmets. Did you have a Mulittech before? Just wondering if it fits like a traditional Shoei, or is similar to the Multi. Thanks!

I've had my Neotec for nearly two weeks and I love it. This is my first modular so my routine was a little clumsy at first but now it is second nature. I'm finding the benefits of this type of helmet to be wonderful.

The chin bar operates very easy and is very smooth.
I love the sun visor and it eliminates the day/night visor swaps.
It vents better and I think it's quieter than the shoei RF 1100 it's replacing.
The removable liner will be great after it starts to get a little smelly.
The external visor is STIFF to operate but I don't consider this to be a downside.
Price of admission is pretty steep but I got over it pretty quick.

These are just my opinions so YMMV. I'm diggin' it and am glad I bought it.

Hi EricV, I have the muliti tech and tried the neotec down at a shop near my Dad's on Wednesday. The fit is amazing, much snugger round the back and sides of the neck and cheeks but they have left loads of space for the head set. Like stated by 20V the ratchet i smor pronanced, the vsor feels great and with no rattle as you normally get. I'll be getting one as soon as the Black coloured ones hit the shores of the UK. They only seem to have brought anthrasit into the Uk atm. ::008::

I tried the lid on then had to put me 33 year old Multi on.......................... just wish they had the black lids :'(

My first helmet was a Scorpion EXO 900 Transformer. Fantastic fit for my head, but I found it a bit fatiguing on longer rides. It was decent for noise, not so great for air circulation, but the built in sunvisor was worth every penny. I didn't like the way it fitted the Scala Rider electronics, and I ended up having a broken connection in the boom mike because of the way it interacted with the chin guard. You essentially have to keep pushing the mike into position every time you flip the chin guard down. It included a useful skirt that could velcro in around the chin area to reduce wind and chill in the lower face. The air vent at the peak of the helmet is hinged pretty weakly, and it flips up at speed quite often after some use. You always know when it's happened early or late in the year because suddenly you're getting a blast of cold air you didn't expect.

Last year I bought the Nolan N43 Trilogy and I really want to love it, but don't.
Pros:
HUGE vision area
Light
Love the chin strap/microlock strap
Purpose built to accept the Nolan bike to bike headset with battery and speakers with almost no protrusions

Cons
Visor fogs on contact with breath (any temp) (No antifog visor incl. even though it is in other Nolan products)
Chin area is wide open, lets a lot of air and noise in
Air vents don't seem to work as well as I'd been led to believe, top of head tends to overheat
Sun visor flips down easily, but isn't long enough, so you're always looking through the beveled edge at mirrors or instruments
The nose cut out and beveled edge on the sun visor are poor design choices, they distort or block your vision
The electronics are pricey (CDN$500+ for the 2! kits it takes to make it functional as a B2B set) on top of the price of the helmet
The face shield can't be lifted incrementally, it's either up or down, so if you want to crack it to ease fogging, you're sh*t out of luck)

All that said, I use the Nolan for my getting around town helmet. It's smaller and lighter and with the good vision, I feel like I can judge traffic better. It syncs up with my phone so I can stream music while I ride (I don't answer phone calls while I ride, that sounds too much like work).

I just picked up a Neotec early this week.
I LOVE IT!

At first I was a little unhappy about the noise but I discovered the removeable 'ear flap thingies" were touching my ear plugs. This allowed some nasty high frequency noise to transfer from the outer shell through my ear plugs. Removed the thingies and man what a difference...it's like playing a video game in silence.

The built in sun visor is wonderful. I was worried it wouldn't be dark enough (I don't go anywhere without sunglasses - even on cloudy days) but it is great. The new HJC Symax 3 wasn't dark enough...

The air transfer is great.

It's light.

The downside: It's a shitload of money. It's so quiet with earplugs that I can't hear the great sounds this bike makes going through the rev range. The money part I'm over already, it's worth it.

Can any of you guys that have brought the shoei Neotec in the USA have a look at the label and check for the safety rating shown?
I can order this helmet for £110 less than I can get it in the UK, but only if it meets and displays the ECE 22.05 safety rating. This is normally shown on the label as a circle with a capital E and a number.
If the helmet is ECE rated then I don't have to pay VAT at 20%, otherwise it's not worth ordering for a small saving. I understand that the helmet was slightly altered to pass DOT tests adding about 50g to the weight. Not sure if this means it won't be ECE rated anymore.
Thanks.

on the DOT sticker it also states "FMVSS No. 218 certified" and that's it.

Thanks 20v, I guess the changes from European model to US are enough to loose the ECE cert.

I'll have to keep saving a bit more then.

One of the things about the MultiTech was that I could touch the chin bar and I'm not even related to Jay Leno.
:D
Does the NeoTech give you more room?

Yes, I can put it on and take it off with the chin bar down and locked like a regular full face helmet. I can't do that with the Multitec.

That's a nice pic, 1RD. The colours work well together. Really caught my attention. Of course, black goes with anything. MESSING WITH YOU !!!! R ::003::

I have the same helmet, with the Scala G4 comms system. So far it is great, although I have a honking big chin, and it is a tight fit with the boom mike and my shemagh. Have you manged to figure out how to unstick the ratchet system?

P.S - The Blue looks great - you are clearly a man of discernment and distinction....

I have the Nolan N103 and so far it's been a good lid. Comfortable but a bit noisey. I had the opportunity to try on the Scuberth and the new for 2012 Shoei Neotec at our local bike show and the Shoei seems to be more refined. Its my next choice whenever the Nolan wears out.

I'm so furking close to ordering an Neotec, but am wondering how it fits an oval-shaped head like mine. Web Bike World describes the shape as 'nuetral,' so I'm thinking I might have a fighting chance. Only problem is that I can't try on a Neotec that's made for western countries. Here in Japan, all helmets seem to center around the oriental head shape which is predominately 'round' (short front to back). Even the Arai Profile is noticably rounder than the one they sell stateside and in Europe.

I may just roll the dice while keeping the RMA option open. That ends-up being time consuming, but it may be the only choice :-\

Got a N103 too but I don't like the visor + pinlock.

My N102 before this one had it too. Scratches on the top of the visor (where it touches the rubber seal). Also my pinlock looks like it has shrunk. It doesn't seal anymore, whatever position I turn the screws. This after less then a year of daily commute use (15-20.000km +/-)
