Add me to the list of clutch basket upgraders. It was a little disconcerting how the exposed springs in the old basket rattle around so much. I don't believe there was any every risk of failure, just a low-tolerance part. It's no wonder the new basket is so much quieter.
Of course it's not really a project unless you have to make at least one trip to the hardware store. Turns out I didn't have a socket to fit the shaft nut, so bought a 1-3/16". I used a vice-grip type clutch holder tool with a socket in the plugged frame hole to hold it. No problem getting the nut off or on with a manual torque wrench. Could have reused the gasket but had already bought one so used the new gasket and new nut. At 46,000 miles, everything behind the right side engine cover looked pristine. ::022::
Initially my clutch engagement was right at the beginning of let-out (don't know how to state that properly). So I stalled the bike at first go. Rode it around for while with plenty of shifting and launching. By the time I got back to my driveway, it felt normal. So maybe the disks have to seat in. I didn't see any reason to remove the first disk and thin retainer wire, so I just left it in. Put everything back according to service manual.
With the revised CCT and 2014 clutch basket, the bike has less rattles and vibes than when new.
