??? Did Yamaha authorize your clutch basket replacement based on the vibration complaint? If so, it seems like they would just put in another 2012-2013 version. I can't imagine Yamaha picking up the tab on installing a 2014-2015 basket into a 2012 bike...
They ordered the parts I told them, the part list from this site and I also cross-checked them to the 2014 model too, based on the vibration complaint.
Dealer said Yamaha picked them up on "good faith", whatever that means and dealer is installing them for free. I was going to pay for them myself as I did not install
the OEM hard-cases at purchase, so I was just going to give them back. I suppose they could shaft me now on the refund of the cases. I'll see when pick it up.

There was $590 worth of damage to the bike at purchase as another bike had fallen against it (just scratches) and I applied that to get the cases instead.

Dealer has been pretty nice up to this point, I find out tomorrow! ::26::

Nice! Well, if that 3200rpm vibration bothered you like it did me, you're going to absolutely love the improvement the new basket makes. Good luck. ::008::

Has anyone else swapped in the 2014 clutch basket only to have the buzzy vibes from 3200-4000 rpm get worse?.....Because that's what happened with mine. I installed the Barnett pressure plate at the same time as well...which did make the clutch feel much smoother in application, and I can tell that the added mass of the new basket is smoothing out power delivery...but dang, the high frequency vibes are driving me nuts!

I've mentioned before that while the ~3000 rpm shake was reduced, I noticed a slight increase in higher rpm vibes in the handlebars.
I'd call my situation a modest improvement overall. Worth the $25 I got it for, but I wouldn't spend the correct price for it.
A worn original basket is likely much worse at ~3000 rpm than my low miles one.

I wonder if your High Frequency buzz was always there but masked by the roughness of the old basket. I suspect any twin will have some buzz to them, but I have to admit, the tenere engine is one of the smoothest I've ridden. Check your Throttle sync to make sure you don't have an unbalanced situation going on.
I don't have a Barnett pressure plate and don't know if that is contributing to it.
I would pay full price for the 14 clutch basket, but glad I got it for cheap.

Count me as a believer. Just had the 2014 basket (and CCT) added to my 'new' 2012 and that annoying shudder is GONE!
Lucky me, it was all free by dealer and Yammy.
Little over 1K on bike now and engine seems to be a little smoother now too. Much happier about this bike than I was 2 weeks ago. Think I'll keep her! ::015::

I guess Yamaha came to their senses and started covering the 2014 baskets in older models. good for them.

I think it was mainly the dealer. He really wants the customer to be happy, really glad I found one like this.
I know he wanted to get rid of this 2012. He just doesn't sell any of them, with the new model bikes coming out, the S10's are a hard sell.

Isn't that crazy? People will buy a high maintenance adventure bike, with the vision of exploring all corners of the globe, and spend much of their time doing maintenance or getting repairs in the shop and only riding a few thousand miles a year. Tenere riders do very little repairs, and many of us are easily putting 8-10k miles a year on our machines. They are such a fantastic value.

I agree, but a lot of mag reviews you see are underwhelmed views of the bike and that must have an effect on purchases.

Wen't to a dealer down south of me to see about a trade in. They still have 2 2012 S10's on the show room floor marked down to 10,5. The salesman seen me pull in and said to me when I walked in, "please tell me your not here to trade for a new one, I can't get rid of the ones that I have".
I don't understand why more people don't buy these they are awesome. But then again, maybe that's not a bad thing either. ::)

I may have to travel to the US on business, as the Clutch Basket is less than half the UK price I was wondering if this could be brought back in my luggage

Could raise a few questions at customs at both ends - and I know I might have to pay 20% duty at the UK end, but it would still be half price.

May as well see if I can grab a CCT at the same time.

Does anyone know how long it takes US Yamaha dealers to order parts, I will only be there Monday - Friday.

Hey Rasher, you may be too late, as I believe there may be a back order of several weeks. But try anyway. I ordered mine beginning of the week and hopefully be at the outlaws when my wife is there end of July. As for restrictions bring them through customs, there are none really, just remove all labels that indicate obvious value. It weighs about 2.5 kg. Don't forget the nut and gasket for both the CCT and basket ::008::

Thanks,

As soon as I have confirmation of my trip I will try and find a US dealer - thinking of seeing if I can find one near where I will be staying to pick it up, or if not see if I can get the parts shipped to the office where I am based from any other US dealer.

Just spoke a relative who goes to the states a lot, he said he can always bring one back as he travels there several times a year so should be good one way or another.

Not too bothered about customs, even after paying duty it is still less than half UK price - if only I could get a whole bike back in a suitcase.

I think the market for the Tenere and also FJR's is so soft you have to give them away. I had a 2013 FJR with 1800 miles and had to beg a guy to give me $10,000 for it. The Tenere market is about the same. You see nice bikes dirt cheap, and still not selling. There is a local dealer has a 2013 Tenere for $9995. and it is still sitting on there floor. I just purchased a 2013 with $5000. in extras for less than half of the retail price of the same bike.

It is a buyer market...

I'll disagree, as I think this sounds like the dealer has not been paying attention and trying to stay to a full retail price while Yamaha has been offering incredible incentives. Why should somebody consider a 2013 for $9995, when Yamaha was offering incentives on the upgraded Gen2 2014? I've seen $10,499 after factory incentives, and I understand that at one point the incentives brought them to $10,299. Even new, our PDP bikes were as low as $11,995.

A dealer trying to keep his 2012 priced at $9995 when the factory incentives bring the upgraded 2 year newer bikes to within a few hundred dollars is not paying attention.

Incentives are a what lowers the value of everyone motorcycle regardless of year. Its the sign that they have to many units in inventory and they are not selling. It is a shame a great bike has lost so much value.

Thank you, Koinz. This thread, combined with the manual and tech guide made swapping baskets/plates easy as pie. Hardest part was reinstalling the spring holding back the 1st fiber/steel plate. It is a very thin wire and easy to damage.

What a difference! So much smoother on throttle and cruising. Still has vibes in the bars(ProTaper)/levers but the engine feels like it's working less than it was.

The old basket had 3 yellow springs that were rattling in the basket. All the steel and fiber plates looked normal and could go further but new fibers while I'm in there.
