The V2s look to be a really nice set of bags. The all-welded construction puts them above the Trax, IMO. Plus, the black finish would look sweet on the Raven.

My short term decision on the hard bags is to let all you other guys buy and install the various options available. I'll give it a while to see who likes what and then make my decision.

So......

Man, all of those hard bag options look fantastic and seem to be the ultimate solution for the Super Tenere!!! You should buy (enter your brand of choice here) NOW!!! ;)

I'll be going with the Givi Trekkers - which are probably as fugly as they come. But, they are functional. For those times when I plan to do much off-road, the bags/trunk will be off and I'll use a basic soft tail-bag. If I was still commuting to work (retirement is GRAND), I would use just the tail-trunk and leave the side bags at home.
Rod, I have the opposite opinion as to the look of the Trekkers. To me they are the best looking of the adventure type bags while still being functional. I hope they have them at the Indy Dealer Show next month so I can see them in person. I plan to use the Trekker panniers and a soft tail bag that I have used on my KLR and also on my ST1300.

I like the looks too - but was just trying to downplay them a bit as many people are totally against anything that is not smooth. They just seem to have that "utility" look that fits with the SuperT!!!

No.

That said, I have not decided what I am going to do. I know some folks have had issues with the Yamaha bags, but I like the way they integrate with the bike as opposed to the aftermartket asymmetrical look. Plus side loaders cn be a PITA if thw bike is one the side stand.... To each his own, this is not meant to be criticism on anyone's choice. Sometimes too many options is a bad thing!

Likewise, I'm going with the Yamaha bags as I like their integration and light weight. I'm not concerned that much about ruggedness - they'll be rugged enough.

I can get the entire adv touring package from Yamaha (bags, mounts, inner bags, tank bag, touring screen, and wind deflectors) for about $1250, then probably sell the GoPro for around $200, so bottom line, out a little over $1K for the entire package. Add a lightweight $150 skid plate, $35 symtec heated grips, and about $40 in and electrical farkles. So I'll be out about $1275 total (yes, I'm cheap) in accessories with the bike fully setup for my riding - luggage, grips, screen, wind protection, electrics, and skid plate. This makes sense for me when I'm realistic about how I'm going to be using the bike. YMMV.

I think that I might go with the Givi E41 side case. Less expensive than the Yamaha or the Trekker and I think that the roundness of the E41 might not catch a leg as easily as a square box. Side opening and a top flap opener like the Trekker could work for me.

One of my riding friends has the E41's on his Wee and he really them. He had a problem with one of the combo locks, but Givi made it right. AFAIK, the Trekkers do not share the combo lock feature of the E41.

After going back and forth 35 times, I think I am going simple and going to make it work somehow. Below is the 1450 Pelican Case I will use with the Caribou DIY mounts. I might attach it right to a SW Motec top plate, or the ALtRIder Plate using the 1/4 turn fasteners. I will only be going a top box for now. WASP EXhaust is speaking to me in some wierd AUzzie vibe!!!

The outside Dimensions are: Ext. Dim. 16.00" X 13.00" X 6.87"

They are fugly for sure, but a friend that rides a lot of miles and has had many bikes uses them now. He's had just about everything else and sold his new Jesse's to get the Mica's.
I've had 3 sets of BMW side loaders and then the Happy Trails came on my Dakar. I prefer the side loaders, especially the Varios on my GS.

I think most of those bags look like you are carrying a truck load!!! I don't mean the look of each bag, but the mass that sticks out.

I like the look of the OEM bags lots. But having seen them in person, and tried to get them on and off the bike I can't consider them. One off road trip in dusty conditions and the latches will be worthless as they will be loaded up with dust and probably won't work.

For strictly on road riding they should be good. And when you take them off the mounts are almost invisible.

Other reason I probably would not go with the OEM's is they require the passenger pegs for mounting. Passenger pegs are gonna be one of the first things to go for me.

Johnpitts01 - keep in mind that the aftermarket mounts will probably require a mounting point to the OEM pegs as well, at least from what I have seen so far.

Do you have any substantiation for this statement? I haven't looked at the S10 OEM bags attachment in detail, but the design principles and construction appear to me to be about the same as BMW's GS bags and I've personally seen these used in difficult off-road conditions for thousands of miles without any undue problems.

One thing people don't understand is that the latches don't actually have any live loads on them. The top attachment hooks supports all the load, the stay at the passenger pegs stabilizes the bags from side motion. All the latch does is keep the bag from bouncing out of the top attachment point.

mark, While attending the recent open house in Bellevue, I spoke to the Yammie Rep about the locks. He admitted there is some issues with "EASE" of opening, but assured me it would be worked out for delivery!!! Maybe this is one thing they want to fix for the second generation unlike the First Edition in AU. The Yamaha Top box does look pretty interesting to use.

It's good to read all of the ideas and comments that you guys are posting regarding luggage. I still want to be able to reuse my Pelican 1550 cases though. At this point I'm thinking that if someone else doesn't make an asymmetric luggage rack setup to be able to hang two cases of the same size, I'll have to make it myself. :)

Rick, I wouldn't think that would be too hard. All you need to do is make the passenger side rack 3" wider than what it is.

I suspect it's about like the FJR bags - if you try and force the latches closed when the bags are overfilled or you don't have the closures engaged properly you can easily break the latches or break off the key in the latch. People do it all the time. Same with BMW bags which are of similar construction. But by the same token, if you understand how they work and don't attempt to overcome poor technique with brute force, they hold up fine.

I like the looks of the OEM bags. The only drawback I see with the side cases is the lack of a brace across the rear for ultimate stability. I thought the FJR bags were too heavy and had limited capacity.
Does anyone know the weight of the OEM side cases?
