On the topic of 14s...

The 14 ECU has been hacked. I have the file, I can see "inside" the ECU.

With that, I need some help from the 14 riders to learn what needs changing.

I have loaded the trottle and decel maps onto my 12 test mule. It seems like T is lethargic an muted just like it was on the 12s. S mode feels better, but I am getting a pretty twitchy on/off throttle. I can't say for certain these are "typical" as I just loaded the maps into a bike they don't belong in.

I have a '14 and am overall very happy with the bike but your flash sounds just like what the Dr ordered. IMO T mode is a bit too lethargic and S mode is a bit twitchie as you said above. I do however like the engine braking I now have. Is it possible to use your tunes and still maitain some engine braking?

Not yet. According to the parts fiche, the ECU is the same PN as the 14 so it shouldn't be a problem.

Can always leave engine braking stock if you like it.

As long as it has some engine braking I think I would be fine. I don't necessarily need it as abrupt an on/off as stock. My biggest problem is the bike is in WI and I'm in FL. Might be a month before I can get the ECU

AVC, I was just thinking about it. As long as your in the ECU would it be possible to dial out the speedo error? My '14 is quite close and I am fine with it but it is a common complaint amongst the '12s and '13s. Just a question. Hope I don't open a can of worms.

It WOULD be, but I couldn't convince Flash Tune to do it. Chris felt it was a waste of time since you can't change the gearing like on the sport bikes.

He also cautioned about using a "fooler" like a speedo healer since the ECU uses that sensor data for a heck of a lot more than just displaying a number on the dash.

Can you say just what can go wrong using a speedo healer? I have had the reflash and a speedo healer since the bike was new and have never noticed any problems. I hooked it up in the wire harness at the abs pump.

Personally, I can't.

I do know the bike "calculates" gear position based on speed vs rpm. It uses that data for throttle and timing maps (NOT fuel). I'm sure it also uses the speed data in traction control calculations and maybe ABS calculations.

What can go wrong, I don't know. Lots of guys claim to have used the speedo healers with success, I don't think I've read of someone with a proven problem.

Just passing along the info I was given from the guy who supposedly knows.

Personally, the speedo error really never bothered me that much. I rarely look at my speedo, and if I do it's easy enough to know it is 10% fast.

I agree with you, but I look at my Speedo, tachometer and pilot lights frequently, so no stinky auto off turn signals to me either...lol

People are so concerned about the speed it's displaying but forget that a simple tire wear, or even worse, a different brand, style, size would make a much greater difference on what's on the cluster, but to each their own.

I think the difference between a new tire and a wore out tire will be in the 2.5% to 3% range. With the speedo already 10% off it will increase the error to 12% to 13% off. I like having the speedo as accurate as I can get it so I run the speedo healer, but like Grandpa said, that's the reason they make chocolate and vanilla!!

Boy, I hope I didn't start something here. I really don't worry about speed error but accurate info from any gauge or instrument is always a good thing.

I must have a "good" speedo, mine has always been about 7-8% off according to my GPS unit.

My GS was about 6-7% out, and my ZZR1400 also about 7% out as well.

Dunno what the fuss is about, I tend to watch where I am going and match my speed to the conditions, if those conditions include a big chance of federal speed enforcement I just keep to speed +5% (well 10% as in the UK your not going to get busted at 1%-2% over the limit.)

2 more -70s and a -30 on their way back to their owners.

I got an update from Chris at Flash Tune, he is hard at work on the -40 Canada spec I sent him.

Hello AC, Is it the 23F-8591A-40 you're talking about (12-13 Canada)? Any news on the 2BS-8591A-40 2014 Canada ECU, called them today told me that I would have to send my ECU for file extraction? One would expect the file to be available after all this time...
Cheers

The file only becomes available once someone sends their ECU for extraction. I guess none of your fellow Canadians have manned up and sent their ECU down yet.

Someone has to be first, why not you?
