I'm 6'1" / 31" and was happy with the stock setup until I got an Arai XD4. Now the peak vibrates in the wind and drives me crazy. Can true happiness be found in a dual sport helmet with a shield you look over?

I think we still have to remember we're on a Dual Sport and not in a vehicle or on a Goldwing . For a good part of my life I've ridden without a windscreen and it never really bothered me , after all , it is a motorcycle. That said , my last bike was a Goldwing and I had the tall Tulsa windscreen on it ( with the vent ) and you still got some buffering , although not as much .
I'm ok with the stock windscreen , I just want to find a quieter Dual .sport helmet ::26::

I'm 6'3" and am getting buffeted beyond recognition by both the stock screen and then by a 26" parabellum that I shelled out good money for (ouch!). I'm still trying to find a solution before I scrap the screen entirely, but it'd nice to have something to keep the arctic breeze at bay. I am considering getting a bracket (wasp, madstadt) to see if I can make either work better. Any taller riders with any thoughts on that? what do people think on wasp vs. madstadt?

Thanks in advance--Russell

What bike did you come from? And are you looking for a pocket of calm air behind the screen, or simply not having your helmet bounced around? What helmet also might be helpful.

I solved my problem, I too am tall 6'4" with a tall torso. I have a vstream sport touring wind screen and was getting a lot of wind noise and some buffeting. The vstream is 21.25 " tall. I bought a madstad bracket and life is wonderful now. Touring adjust it no noise, calm air, lower it if I am on trails or dirt roads where speed isn't an issue. I have never been more satisfied with an aftermarket piece.

About 3k miles on the MRA various touring and still love it. Slight adjustments with a Madstad or Wasp bracket would make it perfect. Neither the med or tall Calsci came close.

I just installed a madstad bracket with what I believe is a med Calsci screen (it came with the bike when I bought it). It has definitely given me a quiter and better protected ride. Only one issue, I get a small vortex of wind from both sides of the Calsci cutout's that gets slightly redirerected by the handguards and provides a slight breeze up under my helmet. Not bad if I need to defog my visor, but it does make my face pretty darned cold on a chilly day. I just have to figure out a way to seal off the bottom of my helmet for those cold days.

Try a Cycle Gear neck wrap - made from Polar Fleece and connects at the back of the neck with velcro tabs. Works great to solve your exact problem -- inexpensive too.

I went to the Cycle Gear shop closest to my home. I purchased a helmet skirt: http://www.cyclegear.com/eng/product/wind_stopper_helmet_skirt/web1006881

It seems to work, but the neoprene will slide off. I had a helmet halo I used to use in the past, also made of neoprene that would eventually catch the wind and slide off. Just a little bit of double sided tape will keep it in place. It did make a huge difference on my commute the other day. That and a neck wrap. Helmet used to feel chilly, not it feels nice and warm!
