According to an article I read, Japan has one of the highest anti-vaccine rates, of previous vaccines. I find that interesting, with as disciplined the society is. Not saying good or bad, not passing judgement, just was unexpected. This was only one article, and not sure of the validity of it. Maybe you could comment on it.
According to an article I read the people in China are getting tired of conforming to their government demands. Some have been beaten into submission or worse if they don’t comply.
They are certainly getting as tried as Americans with these senseless lockdowns.

I just saw an article saying "lawmakers considering reducing vaccine shots to single dose". I don't know/care if this is a red or blue thing. But, it's sure as hell a dumb AF thing. Apparently the states made no preparations to issue the vax when it was ready for distribution. Now that it's here, it's "oh, I guess we better start hiring people to get the vaccine issued." There are tons of doses sitting in freezers waiting to be sent out. How long has the vaccine been known about. Now, they want to rush the dosing, so they are considering only giving people one dose, instead of Pfizer, and Moderna's recommended two. Half-assin' things is one of the reasons we're in this boat. My youngest kid told me the other day, that the city he works for, is not going to give the first responders priority dosing. Not critical enough. His city, used to be my city. And, that's the reason I left.

What about the 40000 actual guinee pigs that bravely volunteered to take the vaccine as part of the testing process for the good of mankind? Don’t they count?

That's actually closer to 70,000 counting both the Pfizer and the Moderna versions.

I know of health care works who are not taking this vaccine and for good reasons that will not be accepted here. I‘m following their lead, they know what’s going on and many of them are the first for new meds and procedures but this has given them great concern. With so much controversy even whith experts in the medical field I find it amazing how may are listening to politicIan’s and runing the game they want you too.
There are some us that have studied, and other that should study the science to make up our own minds. The politicians are just noise from somewhere out in left field and are not relevant to this decision. This a completely apolitical topic in my opinion. Of course there is always Jenny McCarthy to follow if you choose not to believe in established science and facts....

Glad to know you’ve study enough to know more than the Drs and nurses that I’ve talk to, but I’ll stick to their advice. You stick to yours

Just because some health care workers aren’t taking it doesn’t mean shit. I know a 80 year old heart surgeon that smokes. My cousin works in the OR with an orthopedic surgeon everyday. He gets drunk damn near every evening.

I don’t know where you found the Drs and nurses who would tell you not to get the vaccine? They couldn’t have had any experience with covid. You need to look into their details. Maybe give us a few names and we can look for you?

When are you going to realize that not everyone is going to take the vaccine. You can’t force your opinion on them.

Weather you are for or against-that is the reality. Look at this simple poll on here for example. And this is a group of mostly middle to later aged men. Which is higher risk than ost of the population. The younger generation is not nearly as scared. And they are done being locked down.

That is a reality. The virus is here, and when I get gas at the local station or one three states away it is the same. Hide in your cave, get vaccinated and do what you think is best for you. The virus ain’t going away.

The virus ain’t politically motivated either. Left, right or middle it affects us all.

I’m not seeing the medical community leap on this vaccine either. My brother in law as a fire chief was first in the line.
We as humans want a magic wand. Masks were supposed to be the magic wand. Still spreading.
The vaccine isn’t going to be a magic wand either. Best you can do is get it for yourself.

I’m not trying to change your mind (maybe I should be to save your life) but I’m interested in the thought process that led you to take this decision. It appears to be based entirely on poor information and my guess is that you know that deep down but now feel you can’t change your mind. In the UK healthcare workers rejoiced as they were given the vaccine. Healthcare workers have suffered more deaths than any other section of the public with Ambulances crews at the top of the list. I got covid on 22nd July. I haven’t been able to work since. In this weakened state I’m picking up all sorts of coughs and it’s pretty clear that if I got covid now it would probably kill me.

And I have a question. Once you are vaccinated, will you resume life as before the pandemic? Will you feel safe?

Why or why not?

If someone has had this virus and recovered. Do you feel they should isolate?

Good question. Since July I have had 14 covid tests every time I’ve come down with a new cold or cough. I lost 1.5 stone in hospital and it left me weak and anaemic. So even with the vaccine I can’t yet go back to work until I’ve got some strength back. I’m starting Physiotherapy next week to start building strength again. But it’s very comforting to know that if I get covid now it probably won’t kill me.

In this case, I may well have more knowledge in this particular area as I am a trained scientist with an undergraduate degree in molecular biology & a graduate degree in chemical engineering. My career (40 years now) is in research and development of medical devices, specifically neurosurgical implants (hydrocephalus shunts). I've worked hand in hand with many neurosurgeons to develop new devices and materials. Some of the surgeons are scientifically minded but most are not, and these are not just your neighborhood family doctors!. Rather I'd characterize them as extreme high level artists with near super human levels of skill. However, I cannot count the number of times I've had to explain simple hydrodynamics.

Also agree with MattR's point. How many Drs. and Nurses do you know have first hand experience with this vaccine, at this early point, to back their comments or contradict the 70,000 strong and growing clinical experience so far?

Lastly, the article twinrider linked to says the proportion of front line workers (mostly nurses) that are refusing the vaccine is about the same as found in the general population. This indicates a response based on preconceived bias and not as a result of any inside scientific or experiential knowledge, otherwise one would expect those numbers to differ from the "less informed" general population.

My best friend's wife is a matron running two wards in the premier neurological facility in the UK. Another friend's father is a virologist. Both of them are strongly pro the vaccine and will take it as soon as they can - they may have had it already. If it is good enough for them, with their knowledge, it's good enough for me.

I will do the same as long as I can get the most effective and safest option.

that's impressive, no slight meant. Seems though that there is not an agreement on the vaccine or how much one needs or how often. Even where they have tested it and seem to have found the right dosage and frequency the medical field is not following suit. That is good enough to wait as I have been advised.

I have not seen any disagreement on dosage or frequency regarding the emergency use of the two approved vaccines, dosing is one of the key parameters worked out during the 3-stage clinical trial and the recommendations are clear from both approved manufacturers. If you have been paying attention both vaccines recommend a 2-shot regimen with two full strength doses, this is an answered question and a closed subject for the approved vaccines.

For some of the other, not yet approved vaccines in final stages of development, you may be reading that they they are still finalizing dose recommendations, but this has to be settled before FDA will allow approval and is not applicable to and should not be confused with the already approved Pfizer or Moderna vaccines. If the medical field/personnel is/are doing anything other than the dosing & frequency recommended by the manufacturer and approved by the FDA, then they are outside the approved use and doing what is called "off-label use". This is not necessarily illegal but opens the user performing the off-label use to liability without a compelling rationale to explain/defend that use.

The two approved are supposed to be three weeks apart but in the article I linked to the UK is doing months and some articles say the USA is doing one dose and make not event do the second. Some I have read are saying a full dose first while the studies are saying 1/2 dose and then 2-3weeks later a full dose. Not saying it’s factual just what I am reading and we all k ow if it’s on the net it’s true :)

I heard the UK was concentrating on getting everyone the first dose possibly at the cost of the second dose or spacing out the second dose. With respect to the Pfizer and Moderna vaccines that’s against manufacturer recommendations and in the US would be off label. The reference to different strength doses between the first and second shot has to do with a vaccine yet to be approved in the US, I think the Astra-Zeneca vaccine (I may have that wrong) but again not to be confused with the currently approved ones in the US.
