I'm with you 100% Mark. We may not agree on the issue of Vaccine's but making in fun of a mentally challenged child is not right at all. I took note of the members who liked that post. Pretty darn disgusting.

One is a personal choice, the other is an unfortunate birth defect that cannot be changed. I'm not sure that clears things up though

I was upset by the meme. Totally wrong.....but tried to point it out with humour...

The mosquito meme was inoffensive imho, but the other was completely unnecessary, offensive and should be seen as such.

My understanding is that the two companies that are using mRNA for the covid vaccine were already using it to develop a treatment for Parkinson’s and cancer. They quickly realised that what they had developed could be used for a covid vaccine as well. Because of the worldwide attention and the money being thrown at them by governments along with a huge number of volunteers for the trials meant that they were able to bring the vaccine to market much faster. My hope is that the process will also mean that they have been able to advance development of the cancer and Parkinson’s

The meme in DonT post was disgusting. Nothing less. Other points made in the post were valid to me so I liked. I do think the meme should be removed but freedom of expression is a right, even if the message is in very poor taste.

My thoughts, let’s step back and understand why that particular meme is offensive.

it’s derogatory and the joke comes at the expense of people with a defect. You can replace the word “retard” with any other derogatory slang and it would be just as offensive. Try it in your mind with a derogatory slur used to describe yourself.

Now imagine people belittling your Son or daughter who was born with Down’s syndrome or any other form of a birth defect. Or nationality, or race, or religion. We can be better than that.

Now, remember where you are at on the forum. The DEBATE room. Go re read the rules for the debate room.

And let’s not crucify Checkswrecks yet. Remember he just bought a van and is probably living down by the river.

Matt, comparing a disgusting slur of a meme to gun rights in the USA is kind of a stretch. If you want start your own thread in the debate room about gun rights. Then debate away.

Just as a reminder, there are currently two moderators here on the forum, Checkswrecks and myself. Venture is the admin, but he rarely visits these days. With that said, I know CW addressed Don T's original post with a post about his own experience with that particular meme, which is unfortunately all too common on the internet. I have removed it, and will do so immediately should it ever be posted again. Overall, this is a very positive community and we rarely make edits, so I apologize in not removing the derogatory picture when I first saw it.

As far as the reports, that is usually the first thing I check when I log in for the day. I deferred to CW's admonition in the thread, rather than removing the meme. So the reports were not ignored, but I chose to leave the post in conjunction with my fellow moderators response. That was yesterday morning; so with seeing the further discussion and reports this morning, I removed the meme.
