I think that's going to be the key. Many here that don't like the throttle, want it to be like their past bikes; throttle cable, and carbs. When I went from the RT to the ST13, I adjusted the brake lever of the ST to match the feel of the RT. IIRC, I did the same when I went to the Tenere. But, it took me no time at all to fall in love with the "twitchy" throttle, and enormous engine braking. On twisty roads, they make for a fantastic combination. For me.

I don't think I've ever ridden a two stroke, so I don't have anything to base it on. But yeah, either find or make a bike do what you want so you want to ride it.

When I had Anthony flash my ecu I asked him if he could give me more engine braking, he couldn't. I had history on a 600cc thumper, that was chirp-the-tires engine braking.

I think the EPA did them all in. When I was taking the MSF course in the Navy, there was a guy trying to take it on an RD400. It did not like having to ride at low rpms. They kept letting him take off, and clear it out.

I never mentioned a 2 stroke road bike in my post however there were several in the 70’s and 80’s. Probably most known was the Yamaha RZ350 which is a tremendously fun bike to ride. If you ever get a chance to ride one, you owe it to yourself.

in the late 90’s Bimoto made the “V-Due” but I’ve only ever seen one and it was in a museum. That being said, there is hope for the future....

You did mention 2 stroke. . . . but no, you did not mention 2 stroke road bikes.

. . . . I learned to ride at an early age on 2 stroke bikes. . . . .
But, around here . . . . with all the years, and all the bikes that members have ridden . . . . if you even mention a 2 stroke . . . . you're gonna get a shit boat load of replies. :D

I have this on mine and it makes for easy flat footing (which I love) but now my center stand needs to be shortened

Mine is actually lifted now with the new (shorter) linkage. I rode it about 250 miles this past weekend and I was amazed how much difference I could feel. Everything else the same, the big pig turns in with much less effort now and I haven’t noticed any loss of stability. Seems to make it much more neutral feeling now as well. I am happy with the modification for sure.
I have a 34” inseam and I can no longer flatfoot while running max preload.

I don’t like being called chicken. I’m going to go out now and ride completely past my skill level in order to prove to a random person on the internet that I can ride. I’ll show you!!!
Me neither. Typed with tongue in cheek...

I was thinking that if you're scraping foot pegs on the Tenere, you might want to use a little more preload.

Sometimes you just have to push it down and keep leaning...I scraped my pegs twice on my Tenere the second time I rode it. Preload is maxed out. Just exploring the abilities of the bike and I misread a set of corners on a road I hadn’t traveled in 15 years. Things happen sometimes. I don’t make a habit of riding quite that fast on the highway but sometimes we can get caught out. I always try to ride with a bit of reserve for when these instances do occur, I’m not already riding at 100%. This was one of those instances and everything worked out as expected.

I never got to ride an RZ350 (not for a lack of wanting to, or looking for a decent example of one!). I did however, own this variant for a few years (same motor without the power valve):

Installed the Smart Turn system auto cancel turn signal module today. Many thanks to those who have written up their installs, made this stress free.

And in the current vein, I rode RD/RZs for 20+ years. Fun bikes.

Never ride an RZ but owned an RD350 for about 6 years. Got me all through college.
