I have always balanced my wheel/tires after mounting and always end up with 2 - 1/4 ounce weights at some point on the wheel (I put one weight on each side of the wheel). On both of my wheels (front and back), the location of the weights seems to fall at about 10 o'clock if the valve stem is at the bottom (six o'clock position).

Just kinda curious, did you bother balancing the wheel after mounting the tire? I have a marc parnes static balancer and I've balanced every tire I've put on (even my TE63's on my KLR LOL) I know many people just put the dot on the valve stem and call it a day without issues.
Yes, I did carefully balance the rear wheel. I have a Harbor Freight motorcycle wheel balancer and it works very well.

I actually have to close the garage door when balancing to avoid the wheel moving due to breezes. Even if you don't feel a vibration from an unbalanced wheel, you can get some uneven wear happening.

I tried to put the yellow dot next to the valve stem, but the tire walked a little when I was putting the final side onto the wheel. Even with the beads not yet seated and plenty of lube on the tire and wheel, I could not rotate it back. Since I planned on balancing it anyway I just left it.

finished my home made luggage rack; $45 in material plus another $20 in miscellaneous; a nice savings over others around $200 or more. Top plate is 14x12 3/16 aluminum on top of a 9x8 under base bracket of 1/4 aluminum for strength.

nicely done, dandil726, I absolutely approve of simple and inexpensive over flash and over-paying.....

I replaced my failing stock battery with a Shorai Lithium. After figuring out the right combination of foam bits, I spent the next hour trying to pry the Altrider crash bars back into place. They've seen the ground before, and there were some alignment problems. They're probably going to be replaced soon.

I agree, my local dealer had his AT arrive this week and emailed me to check it out, so might have to go over there soon, just a look see ::26::, tube is a no for me.
I was somewhat underwhelmed by the new AT at the bike show (having previously had a '97 model), I guess I was expecting too much ? It's a good looking bike, but you can see some signs of cost cutting here & there with some iffy brackets which are very un-Honda like. I thought it was a bit on the small side too, but that's just me. Not sure if I could go back to a chain again ? The gold rims look cool though and they are the right size 21/18" to get some gnarly rubber fitted. Let us know how you get on with it as it gets a cracking review in this months Adventure Bike Rider magazine ::008::

I love it. The reviews of it so far put the AT as a 1000cc dirtbike, it's not (from what I've read) an adventure/touring bike, it's not going to compete with a vstrom, tenere, or GS1200. It's a bike for that guy running the TAT end to end with no big bike bypasses. I think it's basically the best choice of anything that's going to be a 50/50 enduro 650 and above, including the KTM crowd. ( I readily admit that I do not ride my tenere at 50/50). Although I'd replace my KLR and DR (Which i ride more like 70 dirt 30 street) in a heartbeat with the AT, and I'd probably give the DCT a shot with it too just for something different.

So far this has been the first "objective" review I've seen of the AT http://lanesplitter.jalopnik.com/ride-review-the-2016-honda-africa-twin-is-exactly-what-1748124826

I have the same crash bars. Here is a suggestion. When removing the black cowling, cover the top of the crash bar with a rag. The surface of the Puig bars is similar to truck bed liner and it will scratch the cowling with minimal contact. The cowling can be removed/replaced with the bars in-place, but it is so tight that dragging the cowling across the bars is unavoidable. My right cowling is rashed as a result of this. I use a rag now. ::)

Installed a Zumo 660 that is replacing my trusted and still functioning Quest. Now I need to learn Basecamp, but more and more often the Quest had sent me on a wild goose chase following its 2006 maps. Looking forward to a bigger screen, Bluetooth instructions, and up to date roads.

I have them and I like them. I especially like the price :p

In all seriousness, I think I'd rather use TKC80s (especially in the front), but I don't think the additional benefit they provide are worth the price difference.

Today....heated grips. I bought the individual parts for 1/2 the cost of the kit. Thanks to those that discovered this hack and posted the part numbers.

Got the ECU re-flashed with Flash Tune. Pretty simple digging out the ECU. Had to crank a bit more than usual to start the bike initially and was greeted with a loud backfire upon starting. Took her for a quick spin and right away I can tell the on/off/on throttle response is better. After deceleration into a bend, I can "feel" the engine immediately picking up the throttle as I begin to feed it in. Previously there was not much feel until the ECU turned the injectors back on after you already had the throttle starting to open, producing a jerk. Still a big difference between sport and touring mode, but T mode feels more normal now, if that makes any sense. Throttle response is better and smoother in both modes. The heavy engine braking is reduced maybe by half? So far so good.

Me too! I picked up a tag on a local tag-o-Rama game and got a nice ride in.
Saturday, I have a 300mi trip planned... Night need to bundle up for it in the morning though.

I got to test out the new outfit my family got me for Christmas... Klim Latitude.
