Rode down to Brighton to watch the speed trials and catch up with some old friends on Friday. Rode into town this morning with these friends and looked forward to a petrol heads dream day out. When I parked up on the seafront, my S10 went and puked all the coolant out of her header tank. Oh dear! After checking the fuses etc, I ended up stripping the side panels off, only to find that the cooling fan had gone and wedged itself onto the radiator and burned the motor out. My fault entirely, because like the prize pillock I can sometimes be, I'd neglected to check for any damage to it after being sideswiped by white van man a few weeks ago. I sat in despair and convinced myself that I was totally up faeces creek, sans paddle but decided to give the nearest yamaha dealer a phone just in case they had any ideas. The guy in the service shop laughed and told me that I was possibly the luckiest bloke going, as they were actually in the process of cannibalising their demo S10 to help out a long standing customer. He talked with his boss and they said they'd happily let me have it's cooling fan. I did wince a little when they said it'd cost me £390 but I didn't really fancy pushing her the 196 miles to get back home. So.....ended up spending most of the day mending my bike at the English seaside. Didn't see any of the speed trials but what the hell, it could have been so much worse.

Changed out the seat bumpers with the shorter OEM ones. I didn't get a test ride in, but it feels nice not being pushed in to the tank. More butt on the wide part of the seat should be sweet. Next up, Eastern Beaver, Rox Riser and heated grips. After that I plan on modifying my snowmobile gauntlets to fit Big Blue.

Got her dirty again. Rode Rampart Range Road from Woodland Park to Sedalia and then back on highway 67 in the pouring rain and hail. About 38 miles of dirt in a 100 mile ride. Really glad we did the dirt portion first; I can only imagine how tough Rampart Range Road would be with a nice cover of slippery goo.

Installed Rumbux bash plate and crash bars that arrived last month - first free weekend. Mounted 6" Rigid LED light bar... Still working on fuse box, Hella horns, relays and autoswitch for light.

Rode to the airport to see if any of my friends were out, or whether any airplanes were landing. No to both! So took the bike out on some twisty back country roads and had a blast.

Fork seals and bushings. New tires. New dust seals on the hubs. Valve adjustment. All exhaust valves are a tad tight at 28k. New rear brake rotor. Plugs, air filter, etc. a few more days to go.

rode from Livingston MT to Billings MT via Yellowstone NP AND Beartooth Scenic Highway...

nothing but sunshine,
fresh tarmac on a previously rough section at the top of the world,
no Super Teneres spotted, lots of Harleys, a few sport bikes and a few sub 500 dual sports...

I believe riding west to east is better than east to west,
but it could be I have been there before and had a better notion of what I was doing this time and how long it would take...
given a choice or planning a Beartooth Adventure again I would choose west to east.....

tomorrow I am headed to Cody WY and the following day, Chief Joseph Scenic Byway to West Yellowstone.....

hello all,

hope everythings well and everyone has been emjoyimg their S10s.. :)

i just installed the ohlins suspension on my bike today.. been thinking about it for the longest time but just have not been able to bite the bullet and take the plunge... its only after 2.5years and the stock suspensions are feeling a bit squissihy that i decided to look around an dshop a bit... looking thru all the positive reviews finally gave me the push to just go out and do it! after being given the bill, i was thinking to myself those ppl writing all the good stuff better right cos its really not cheap...

getting on the bike and riding off, i discovered how understated all the reviews were.. its not just good or great the ohlins.. its simply ridiculars! i always wonder if its possible to improve on perfection and yep this is a classic example that it can be done.. the rise is improved right from the onset, it feels so composed in corners during acceleration and dampens bumps even better than a wet blanket.. its like the suspension gods came and bestowed a small chunk of damping heaven upon me.. i havent got the time to fine tune and tweek it yet because im grinning so much that the corners of my mouth feels like its meeting at the back of my head!! its just so wonderful right out of the box with the default settings. well worth to the last penny!! i should have done it right at the start.. i felt like i missed out on years of it now..

anyways i am waiting for my bike shop to order in the front fork cartraidges from ohlins for this bike to complete the whole setup.. i feel just like a small boy reading a porn mag for the first time haha.. meanwhile i guess i'll just have to dream eagerly for them to come in... such are the stuff wet dreams are made of.... sigh :))

Had to install a new rear inner tube, had little rubber balls inside the tube? ???
Waiting for the puzzled questions.. ;)
If you run a tire low enough and long enough the side walls will slough off particles from the inner liner... after many many revolutions, heat, tumbling and friction, those particles will adhere to each other forming round little bee bees up to bearings. Biggest I've seen was almost a half inch. Enough of this and the inner liner no longer holds air = inner tube. Bad enough and the side wall cords will no longer be structurally sound either.
