Because i realized I could save several hundred dollars by getting used trax cases, in this case off a DRZ. That's why the big case is on the left. Practically it works because the heaviest thing I carry ( my work computer which at 9lbs is pushing the term "laptop") goes in the small case, the big case is usually stuffed with jackets, PFDs and hard hat and the like. This setup puts the heavier load inboard, although it does look ungainly... But hell it's an ST, about as pretty as the south end of a northbound Rottweiler .

Sw motech says you can mount the reversed, but that means the only thing holding your box to the bike is the latch, as the brackets face the other way.
Sometimes it is not about aesthetics, but rather about cutting costs. In any case you are doing the same thing if you had bought new ones.

As this is the first new vehicle I have ever bought, the first bike I have ever financed, I am still suffering from sticker shock. So every farkle is balanced against the " OMFG I spent how much on a fucking motorcycle?!?" That I still feel. Farkles are cash only, even though panniers are mission critical. So this is what I got. It's not as fugly as I feared it would be.

Man, I so hear ya on that!

While mine is also financed, my wife says; Sure you can add this or that, BUT cash only and Overtime money only...

Mine is paid for but I have to be careful with what I buy for it for fear of ramifictions.
In saying that I've been on the hunt for a second hand Akropovik since I bought the bike without any luck.

We have just replaced our old ride on mower with a nice new John Deere and I've sent the old one in to the local mower shop to be 'sold on behalf' hoping it will fetch enough tp buy a new Akropvic.
I wont tell the chancellor until the deal is done believing it is better to ask forgivnes than to ask for permision ;)

Summer's over so I took off the Kenda Big Blocks and put on a set of new Michelin Anakee 3s. In September I expect to put on 2000 miles riding from Oregon to Yosemite and back and then, if all the ducks stay in line, will put another 5000 miles on the bike heading down to Arkansas in October for the 2014 rally. Link to Anakee 3s >> http://amzn.to/1nxqJ0x

Took the Anakee 3s for a quick ride and they are nice and smooth. Can't say that about the Big Blocks. They seem to have less turn-in than the OEM Battlewings but new tires always feel different. I'll have to put some miles on them to know what they really feel like. I tried to hear the humming some have reported but couldn't. Maybe I'm just used to the Big Blocks and they make all kinds of noises and thumpty talk going down the road.

Report on the Kenda Big Blogs is a solid A+. (Link to Big Blocks >> http://amzn.to/Wd0eFK) These transformed my bike to a sure-footed, off-road beast. The improvement in tracking and ease of use on some nasty beatup old roads, gravel, mud and rocky miles this summer was totally satisfying. I only expected to get about 2000 miles out of them but taking them off at about 1700 miles today, I'd say that they have about 50% tread left. The rear is wearing faster than the front. For summer use when it's dry, I'd buy these all over again. For the 7000 highway and wet backroad miles I have coming up in the next two months, I think the Anakee 3s will be a good solution.

Note: I balanced the Anakee 3s but not the Big Blocks. It's interesting that the bike did not have any balance weights on it for the Battlewings when purchased new. Not sure if balancing is really needed but expecting to put in a lot of higher speed time, it can't hurt.

By the look of the pic, do you have the bags on the wrong sides? Small one on exhaust and wide on narrow racks of the right?

Rode Going To The Sun Road east to west through Glacier National Park over wet gravel road construction behind intimated drivers through low level clouds AND did not stop for any pictures... Luckily the fresh snow was still several hundred meters above the top of Logans Pass, UNLIKE back at home where the snow hit ground level... Here's to hoping the snow is gone by next week on my return or 'someone' is bringing their truck down to rescue the Tenere.....

If you look down thread we talk about this down thread. I loaded up my bike for work and took it for a test ride as usually leave for work at 0500 and I hate problems on the way to work. I went 45 miles through the hills " just to be sure" ::001:: Well the computer is so much heavier that I put a couple wrenches on the left side after feeling the out of balance feeling. The 37 is perfect for the computer it's a snug fit so it doesn't shift around but really if I was traveling I would want two big cases for the storage.

A bit late posting but on Sept 1st I rode with Garry Kramer to the Multiple Sclerosis office in Red Deer Alberta. Garry is riding on through the US and South America to Ushuaia, Argentina and Brazil to generate awareness and raise donations for MS research.

I made a small shelf to hold some electrical stuff I've been meaning to install. From left to right: Dimmer switch for LED lights, un-switched 12-volt cigarette socket on heavier wire with 10 amp fuse, and a voltage meter.

Got my Corbin seat and installed it.

A couple things about the experience.

First they sent me the wrong instructions. it was for some Honda. Yeah, I thought no big deal either. Then it took me a few minutes of pushing down on the new seat to realize it didn't have the "catch" for the seat release. Must have been on the correct instructions. So I unbolted the one from the stocker and installed it. I don't think its supposed to come with it as there was a bolt where it goes.

Then the seat would not latch properly.. I'm short and have it on the low setting. I couldn't get it to latch properly on the high (closer) to the seat "hook". I had to literally put my knee into it and use all 220lbs to get it to catch properly and even then I was bouncing on it. I think its just a "break-in" think. I'm sure it'll be fine later…

The seat is actually softer than my other Corbin on my Ducati. While its not as soft was the stock seat, it is only mildly more firm. I had to go back and forth to actually feel that it was more firm. But it is far from the typical firmness of Corbin seats. I did not ask for a softer foam BTW… Won't get a chance to ride it till maybe tomorrow if it doesn't rain but the position doesn't push you into the tank… Will report back after i ride on it…

Ordered wind deflectors, should have them next week. The Dealer took $8 off the price without me asking. So from $85 to $77....
