Sounds to me like you should treat yourself to a bit of a midlife crisis and buy a cheap MX bike too!snakebitten said:Bottomed my forks about 5 times.
Stopped and dialed a bit of preload and about 4 clicks of compression.
Bottomed out about 5 or 6 more times. Dialed in another dose of compression just to see if I could stop it.
Nope.
Gotta decide if I should spring-valve the bike for what I was doing. It was so much fun.
Neighbor friend went nuts and bought 3 MX bikes this week. 2011 Green, 2008 yellow, 2008 blue. (major midlife crisis) So him and his sons were on MX bikes and I'm on the Beast. We were "creating" a natural track on his 10 acres by simply repeating the route. The creek gets crossed 3 times and makes fantastic natural jumps. I'm bottoming when I hit the incline AND when I land after the air.
They were all blown away that my "streetbike" (they don't know much about motorcycles) had dirt bike tires like theirs and would rip along their little track. And they are still a bit timid at leaving the ground. Meanwhile I'm lucky I didn't blow my seals.
First time I've worn my old Tech 6 boots in years. It was a hoot.
What do you have one to the forks?snakebitten said:I have a couple of dirt bikes. (no MX)
I'm just being stubborn.
Just thinking I would like the suspension to be able to handle the tires. Would be different if it was the other way around.
I suggest you get with Jaxon on the setup and see what he says. I don't want to give advice that may be conflicting to the tuner you went with. You have some serious hardware there, he should be able to help you get it setup however you would like.snakebitten said:Yea, I've been thinking. Maybe oil volume-viscosity tinkering instead of re-springing?
Truth is, I like it a little less luxurious than the Ohlins came back as. The shock is close. It's doing a good job handling the spread between 1-up & 2-up. And it wasn't really objecting to the horse play today. But the front is just so.........well, luxurious. Lol
This Beast is so front heavy. I might be wrong, but I think I would like it a little more rebellious up front.
Well, yeah, or you could just shed a few pounds... (pot, kettle and all that)snakebitten said:But if I really do feel strongly about riding this beast outside its intended purpose, jumping, I am going to have to experiment with natures air-spring.
Could have been a 360, I'm ignorant of Bultacos other than they are red, and it hurts when one runs you over. ??? He "kinda" jumped me when I crashed in front of him...snakebitten said:I've lost 40 pounds since I upgraded the forks. So it could be WORSE! lol
Bultaco 350? Not 360?
My big brother raced a Persang when I was a kid. I thought him and Jim Pomeroy were gods.
As for acting a fool today, I probably should let it go. But I know me. May as well get a syringe and fork cap tool.
You are correct. The only reason I suggest going back to Jaxon is because tuning and tweaking advice should be part of the service.snakebitten said:Good advice. But whether it's Ohlins or WP or even OEM, most things are similar. Spring rates, valving-damping, and air volume are the 3 obvious factors. And it's too late for you to claim you don't have a strong opinion of what someone might try.
But I respect your stance.
Me? I don't think stiffer springs are the answer. In fact, my sag numbers indicate I'm not really too far off there. I AM going to go a bit stiffer, because I can, and still get proper sag.
But if I really do feel strongly about riding this beast outside its intended purpose, jumping, I am going to have to experiment with natures air-spring.
Ok, then call Ohlins in NC. Trust me, their price has after sales support built in.snakebitten said:I totally agree!
And as much as I love and respect my friend Jaxon, he never has seen my forks. He simply facilitated getting Ohlins to build Tenere forks, and then hooking me (customer) up with Ohlins tech in North Carolina.(?)
But I am gonna give him a call just to torture him. It's so much fun.
