Bottomed my forks about 5 times.
Stopped and dialed a bit of preload and about 4 clicks of compression.

Bottomed out about 5 or 6 more times. Dialed in another dose of compression just to see if I could stop it.

Nope.

Gotta decide if I should spring-valve the bike for what I was doing. It was so much fun.

Neighbor friend went nuts and bought 3 MX bikes this week. 2011 Green, 2008 yellow, 2008 blue. (major midlife crisis) So him and his sons were on MX bikes and I'm on the Beast. We were "creating" a natural track on his 10 acres by simply repeating the route. The creek gets crossed 3 times and makes fantastic natural jumps. I'm bottoming when I hit the incline AND when I land after the air.

They were all blown away that my "streetbike" (they don't know much about motorcycles) had dirt bike tires like theirs and would rip along their little track. And they are still a bit timid at leaving the ground. Meanwhile I'm lucky I didn't blow my seals.

First time I've worn my old Tech 6 boots in years. It was a hoot.
Sounds to me like you should treat yourself to a bit of a midlife crisis and buy a cheap MX bike too!

I have a couple of dirt bikes. (no MX)
I'm just being stubborn.
Just thinking I would like the suspension to be able to handle the tires. Would be different if it was the other way around.

It was a lot of fun. And very much a different off-road experience than what I have set this thing up for. But I gotta tell ya, it hooks up plenty well to play. Traction isn't the limiting factor. (proper tires, of course)
Kinda funny having headlights, brake lights, and a windshield.

I suspect if the forks were setup for this, they might be a bit stiff for tarmac?

What do you have one to the forks?

There are some tricks you could do to make the bike resist bottoming without making it brutal on the street.

Yea, I've been thinking. Maybe oil volume-viscosity tinkering instead of re-springing?

Truth is, I like it a little less luxurious than the Ohlins came back as. The shock is close. It's doing a good job handling the spread between 1-up & 2-up. And it wasn't really objecting to the horse play today. But the front is just so.........well, luxurious. Lol
This Beast is so front heavy. I might be wrong, but I think I would like it a little more rebellious up front.

I suggest you get with Jaxon on the setup and see what he says. I don't want to give advice that may be conflicting to the tuner you went with. You have some serious hardware there, he should be able to help you get it setup however you would like.

Good advice. But whether it's Ohlins or WP or even OEM, most things are similar. Spring rates, valving-damping, and air volume are the 3 obvious factors. And it's too late for you to claim you don't have a strong opinion of what someone might try. :)
But I respect your stance.
Me? I don't think stiffer springs are the answer. In fact, my sag numbers indicate I'm not really too far off there. I AM going to go a bit stiffer, because I can, and still get proper sag.
But if I really do feel strongly about riding this beast outside its intended purpose, jumping, I am going to have to experiment with natures air-spring. :)

Well, yeah, or you could just shed a few pounds... (pot, kettle and all that) ;)

Sounded like a very fun time rooting around in the pasture, so to speak. Not to mention chasing the kids! Had an 'old guy' do that when I was a kid burning around on a 50cc, and he was on a Bultaco 350 that looked HUGE at the time. I was probably 10-11 at the time, if that. Good fun.

I've lost 40 pounds since I upgraded the forks. So it could be WORSE! lol

Bultaco 350? Not 360? :)

My big brother raced a Persang when I was a kid. I thought him and Jim Pomeroy were gods.

As for acting a fool today, I probably should let it go. But I know me. May as well get a syringe and fork cap tool. :)

Could have been a 360, I'm ignorant of Bultacos other than they are red, and it hurts when one runs you over. ??? He "kinda" jumped me when I crashed in front of him...

40 lbs? Well done! I could stand to lose a small adult asian woman, but I'm a good cook, and so's the wife. Got down to 238 just before the IBR, but back up to 260 at the moment. I need to get back to running again. The dark and cold really killed my enthusiasm for the morning runs.

220 around Nov 2013
Basically, 1 lb per week.

Holidays took me back to ~228
Now back down to ~220.
Can't afford to quit now. Bought clothes and gear for my smaller version of myself. Good stuff too. Incentive.

You are correct. The only reason I suggest going back to Jaxon is because tuning and tweaking advice should be part of the service.

If I knew EXACTLY what you had I could make recommendations. I don't want to say "increase spring rate" or "add oil" as I am not comfortable with what is in your forks enough to make a broad claim. Jaxon KNOWS what is in there and he should be able to assist.

A stiffer spring will resist bottoming, but it will also reduce reaction to smaller bumps/undulations.

Adding oil will mostly leave the small response the same, but will resist bottoming. I don't know how much oil is in your forks and I don't know how much volume the Ohlins claim, so I can't in good faith suggest how much you can safely add before risking a hydro lock.

Generally at this point the rule of thumb is to add 10mL to each leg at a time until you are happy, or you hydro lock ::010::

I totally agree!
And as much as I love and respect my friend Jaxon, he never has seen my forks. He simply facilitated getting Ohlins to build Tenere forks, and then hooking me (customer) up with Ohlins tech in North Carolina.(?)

But I am gonna give him a call just to torture him. It's so much fun. :)

Ok, then call Ohlins in NC. Trust me, their price has after sales support built in.

Got homes from the dunes yesterday...I'll spare the east coast and northern brethren here the weather details. Since i have to go to the office today, I checked tire pressure and swapped to the CalSci shorty windscreen.

Yesterday I took off the original Battle-Wings with 11k on them and replaced them with a pair of K60s. Report on those to come.

Used step-by-step threads to remove/replace both wheels. Worked like a champ. Would have had a really hard time doing that out in the field. The axles were torqued on pretty darn tight!

Installed my ECU that I just got back from Flash-Tune. Hopefully it is warm enough for a test ride tomorrow

Update 2-19-14... Was able to put a few miles on today. My first impression is WOW :) :) :) :)
Well worth the $100.00 plus shipping I spent.

Off idle stumble has been minimized
Vibration at 2500 RPM has been reduced to near zero.
Restrictions in first three gears removed.

It is really to bad that Yamaha could not release the bike that performed this well. They would have sold a lot more bikes.
