Well, I have had a pair of Continental TA3s fitted and then went for a short, 50 mile, ride. Initial impressions are very good, conditions were damp and drying roads and air temperature 9C. They appear to lighter steering than the PR5s that came off but I will say the PR5s seem to be more progressive when leaning into a bend whereas the TA3s seem to drop in but feel very secure. So, all good to go I think!

Got around to modding my Topbox again. I put a nice long handle on the lid. Very secure. Makes moving the bike around so much easier and i wont trap my hand if i drop it. All metal fixings all the way to where it bolts to the bike and its solid. Put 2 tie down points on for rox straps and cargo net. I dont normally put anything on top but its handy if i pick something up when im out. Just waiting for a pair of stainless hinges for the lid to come. Will fit those and put the other handle and tie downs on the other side. For anyone who feels the bike is too heavy this really works. I do have it on all the time when on the bike so wont suit everyone. 20221202_134731_HDR~2.jpg20221202_134633_HDR~2.jpg

Replaced my tires and rear brake pads. A tad over 28k miles. The old rear pads were maybe 25% the thickness of the new ones. Regreased caliper slide pins and gave the piston a bit of a wipe down.

The axle gear that slides into the pumpkin - I removed the old grease I'd had in there previously. That old grease was a "moly grease" but had pretty low moly content. I elected to use some Loctite 51048, a fairly thick paste with high moly content. This is often used as a driveshaft spline lube. I'll do my driveshaft lube when I service my swingarm bearing in the spring.

Tires are my second set of Pirelli Scorpion Trail II. I completely wore out the old set at about 10,500 miles. By worn out, the rear tire was down to the cords and had a really flat line. Worn through most of the wear bars. I really like these tires until the last 500 miles or so. Got me home from Colorado on their last legs plus about 50 miles of riding after that. Handling became shite, but it happened over a 1250 mile stretch, so snuck up over a couple of days. But I found these tires to generally wear well, do good in the rain (luckily no rain at the end of life), and pretty decent for soft-roading on gravel or forest roads within reasonable riding practices. Better than the stock Bridgestones or A41s I had before.

That's about where mine are likely to end up at. Love my engine braking. If it wasn't for my two-year hiatus, I'd be well over 30k miles.

Wow, what do you think caused that? Mud build up or rock?

Mud - thick sticky clay. A little long grass thrown in as a binder.

plastic staple welder and some two part pastic epoxy and it'll be stronger than new. been fixing plastics on bikes...
Thanks, will look into one of those. Trying some mesh and epoxy for now. Looks like it might work out. A new fender is only $130, so not too bad. I have passed rocks through before, and lost a fender extender at some point so it may have been pre-stressed.

2011 model took out the auto cam chain tensioner and replaced it with a Graves manual CCT
No more rattle on cold starts and it seems to quietened the engine down while riding a bit too
Now on to the clutch basket, which model would be the best to order or are they all the same after 2014?

All the same from '14 on I believe.
