Hmmm...sounds interesting...only 1,200 miles from home the boring way....1,250 if you go the fun way.
Looking at the boring way for me I think I could make a fun way that is less mileage, but time is the question. At around 1,600+ miles the boring way, do I have enough time off to avoid the slab? Don't know yet.

I'll have to hit slab in parts...but I have to believe there would be interesting 2 lanes through Mountain City AR and Ouachita....take more 2 lanes through Salisaw (home of Pretty Boy Floyd and the Joads) ....I've never ever seen the SE quarter of OK....then slab into Austin.

Coming home, 2 lane to Huntsville, Nackdtadocthetches into Vicksburg hopping onto the Natchez Trace home.

Might find some good barbecue along the way.

I recently rode through that area and i have to share with you the great motorcycle roads i encountered:
On-road - Talihina Scenic by-way between Mena Ark. And Talihina OK - awesome piece of road ~80 miles reminds me of blue ridge parkway
- hwy 259 from Talihina scenic drive to Ok/Tx stateline - i rode the by-way to Talihina and tuen turned around headed back towards Ark to get on hwy 259 South, there are some very long very fast sweeping curves in SE Ok.

Off-road - this was the best unexpected detour i have experienced, if you take old dallas road from hot spring ark to Mena ark get off on Caddo Gap road and then get on Monestary ridge road which takes you back to Liberty road which is paved. FYI, Monestary Ridge road is very lonely and crosses a rocky creek which occassionally gets washed out but is still passable

Enjoy!

I don't know...I've done a lot of Strom rides over the years. One of the fastest guys I've ever seen rode a DL650s. Of course I'd be a lot faster too if I had a LEO badge in my back pocket and was immune from that consideration.

Please keep the route suggestions coming. I suspect I'll have to do significant slab, but would love to divert onto some good roads along the way.

Needless to say, I was only kidding.

I'm planning on attending..unless the weather chooses to snow or rain or freeze the days prior to....and I'll be riding my Tenere...I gave up on my brief flirtation with a V-Strom (long story).

MBABC said he's coming too....unless he gets cranky or sleeps late....

I'm in. Looking forward to that famous Texas hospitality.

Been riding in Big Bend and can't wait to see the Hill Country.

You bet. As long as the Stryker is not easily intimidated!

Re: Texas Hill Country Super Tenere Rally - Spring 2014

I just rode the Hill country for the first time last weekend, trying to do some reconaissance for the rally next year. My verdict is that the on-road stuff was good but i was not impressed with the off-road stuff. It was nothing like Arkansas but hopefully someone at the rally knows of better trails than what i was able to find.

I rode west on 337, north on 335 to Hwy 41 then took Hackberry Rd SW back to 335 then rode S. on 335 and jumped on CR 2631 going NE to Hwy 336. I then rode S on Hwy 336.
