Re: Texas Hill Country Super Tenere Rally - Spring 2014
~
Sorry, Folks that I haven't posted in this thread for a bit, but I was off traveling for the past couple of weeks and wasn't checking in on the forum.
OK, as for the date... I think we locked that down a while back (http://www.yamahasupertenere.com/index.php?topic=9387.msg156480#msg156480) for the weekend of March 21 - 23, 2014 so that Sail2xxs and his 100,000+ mile Super Tenere could make it. I'm sorry if that doesn't work as well for some folks, but for any ride a date has to be tacked down at some point and that one seemed to work the best for folks who had posted in the thread at that time.
Anyway, March 21 - 23, 2014 is the one I will be trying to lock everything down on for this ride, and I hope everyone can make it then.
If we can start getting a good count on how many hotel rooms people will want at the Y.O. Ranch I will be happy to start talking with my contacts there about blocking rooms, etc. The Y.O. is a terrific place, but because of that it can get booked up quick so I need to formulate some kind of count quick. Some have already posted in the thread about wanting a room there, but for anybody else interested please post up ASAP. No credit cards or other deposits, etc. necessary at this time, so don't worry you about that. I just need a room count. I also need to know what folks might want to share a room and who would want one to themselves.
As for the Koyote Ranch (http://www.koyoteranch.com/)... It's a terrific place, and I hooked some people up with them for the MotoGP race last April and they had nothing but great things to say about it. Note that it is a bit outside of Kerrville - roughly 18 to 20 miles - on one of the greatest roads in the state (16). Just wanted to make a note so that if we had folks at the Y.O. and folks at the Koyote we may have to plan logistically for that.
I should also mention that I would like to plan for the ride weekend to include a stop at the Lone Star Motorcycle Museum (http://www.lonestarmotorcyclemuseum.com/). It not only has one of the most impressive collection of vintage motorcycles around, but it's a great place to eat, too. I only hope it is still open when we have the ride next March... You see, the owner/operator - Allan Johncock - is very ill, with not much hope for improvement, and I'm afraid the museum may not continue if something happens to him. He's really a great guy (along with being a hell of a road racer), and I can only hope you will all get to see his collection and get to meet him.
Thanks, Folks, and please post your thoughts and ideas for other spots that might be your favorites in the area so we can start planning routes, etc.
