I also like the look of those Givi cases, and looks farily symmetrical to me on my computer screen. Care to share the model numbers, sizes/volumes, width across the backend and costs? That topcase looks like it'd hold a fair amount, though won't get in the way with side opening panniers/side cases.
How invloived was it fitting the mounting brakets, and any relevant stumbles in that respect?

Looks good. I've always liked how that style and shape of case looks on this bike. I'll bet the hinge pins won't back-out (ala the Trekkers) either.

Although it's almost unnoticeable, If you look at the distance between the rear turn signals and the side boxes, you'll notice that the right box is a few centimeters closer.

The width across the back measures out to be 39in. I have used both the SW-Motech quick release racks (on my Suzuki V-Strom) and now the Givi rapid release racks. In my opinion, the Givi racks are better as well as less expensive. Mounting the racks takes less than 10 min...attaching and detaching the racks with the quick fasteners takes seconds.
The Givi E45 topcase will hold two helmets or one helmet and a jacket.

Top box=Givi E45NJ $140 (45 liters)
Side boxes=Givi E36NJ $137 x 2 (36 Liters)
Givi T468 inner bag $30 x 2
Givi Rapid release mounting brackets $206
Altrider top rack w/Givi mount $200

As I get closer to dropping a grand+ on side cases this thread become more important. One serious consideration is the EVO Trax. I like the look of the black on the raven. The few who responded here like them. Then I made the mistake of checking ADVrider. The image of the guy pouring water out of the Trax case is lasting. With all the electronic gear that may get stowed in a bag (as well as other stuff) that just can't happen for that kind of money. Now that was the non-EVO version. But those who switched are still saying that water gets in?

and providing dry-bags as liners just doesn't cut it.

What say those using the EVO Trax, dry or not dry?

I suggest the Touratech or top of the line Hepco Becker...they'll be water proof until they smack the ground or another object hard enough. Either that or go 'ugly early' with the Pelicans. O0

Tremor, by HB do you mean the explorer bags? They don't look to bad. Is anyone running with them. I don't. remember seeing them in any of the panniers threads.

Hokie69 from Singapore posted some pics of his Explorers. He has the 40L on both sides, so its a bit of a wider load, but they look good.

The Gobis are probably the toughest H&B makes, but are also the bulkiest because the have a double wall for water storage. They are probably the most likely to remain water tight after a crash..next to the Pelicans, but I just can't get past how the Pelicans look. I was joking when I said 'top of the line.' H&B has some metal panniers that are one notch above the Explorers (ribbed, all alumin, but they are EX-PEN-SIVE!...$1400.00 for just the panniers without the frame!

The Jessies are probably the toughest of all the metal panniers, and the frames they mount to are no slouch either...probably the toughest in the biz.

Wow. That is a wide load. They do look good. I have a request for quote in to Jesse luggage but strange as it seems I'mnot drawn to them. preferring the traditional box style. One reason I was drawn to the Trax. I like all aluminum construction. and I'm not sure these hybrid are proven yet. I really like the Nomada box construction and look but the mounts (I think) are a little. fugly .

Yeah, I agree about the Jesses. Their construction is probably the toughest avaiable, but something still looks out of proportion...I can't exactly pinpoint what it is, but something about the depth vs width combined with the overall shape.

I was able to confirm last week the Givi Trekkers are fairly tough, was leaving a campground with an uphill drive way of thick gravel and rain ruts.

My little dirt experience got me again as I approached the task using street-bike mentality, trying to creep up the driveway, it had to be close to 45 degrees and about 30 feet w/rain ruts that were up to a foot deep.. .I should have just gassed it... anyway, she laid right over on the left side and put some nice dimples in the metal panels of the Trekkers. No cracks or anything bent and it rained pretty good during that day's ride w/little if any leakage.

Just ran across this in another thread, Holan Nomada Panniers. Boostedxt posted that he got some and I checked out the web site. Interesting stuff, so here is a LiNK Look similar in design to Zega Pros, but a different seal on the top and about $500 less for a full package of mounts and panniers.

someone a few pages back posted photos of them on his raven s10 and they look awesome. Holan made touratech panniers and then touratech changed and did everything in house. Holan decided to make their own set of panniers and updated from the zega stuff and put their own designs in. They are 40 liters each and fit snug to the bike. the 40 liter kit is 35 inches wide at the back end and cost $1000. Thats everything you need to mount them.

they are top notch cases

Thanks Joe. I'd kinda settled on the boxy type of panniers and was looking trax, Nomada and maybe biting the bullet on touratech. One thing that that separates trax, I think, is the positive lock to the rack. Do I see this correctly that touratech and nomada use some kind of turning arm that use turned from inside the case? If so what prevents someone from turning the arm outside of the case and walking off with the pannier(s).

I might be missing something as my experience with side cases was with FJRs and Connnies that positively locked to the rack (in other words you needed to unlock with a key directly).
