Panniers for 2014 ES Super Tenere

I took possession of a new 2014 Tenere ES model.................serial number 18!

Moved my skid plate, engine guards and Rigid LED's from my 2013 over to the new bike with just a slight mod for the engine guard. Seems Yamaha put a wind deflector under the chin of the fairing and it interferes with the brace used to stabilize the top rail of the guard. Likely Yamaha will tell you to remove the new deflector when installing the factory part.............but...........I used a cutoff tool and made a slot for the bracket.

Now to the issue.....................bags..............panniers................whatever you want to call them. On the ES model (and I don't know about the standard), they have relocated the rear brake reservoir up just under the seat and there is also a new canister of some type just in front of that. Over both of those is a new cover and it seems to interfere with the current bag mounts available on the market and no one seems to have a resolution as of yet. I purchased the Givi Trekker Outback bags and mounts and can attest that they do not fit with the ES model. They have been sent back to the manufacturer and apparently Givi will be in engineering mode for several months to make a mount for the bike. Shame as the bags are first class.

Attached are pictures to illustrate:
Bag01: Shot showing how the mount interferes with the master cylinder (black plastic cover removed)
Bag02: Closer shot of the same
Bag03: Picture of the cover back over the reservoir and box
Bag04: Picture of my 2013 for reference with the area where these parts are located being void of any items

Now...............anyone know of anybody that has a solution? I really want to get out on the road with the bike and need a way to pack some provisions.

SWMotech?
Moose?
I won't buy Touratech.

Thanks

The pictures clearly illustrate that I tried the mounts without the plastic cover. The master cylinder reservoir is what interferes with the mount.
I went with the '14 because I wanted cruise, heated grips, electronic suspension, adjustable windshield and all the extra HP that they would give me. I would have gone for the new KTM 1190 but it didn't have cruise and it is a bit more spendy.

Congratulations on your new ride!

Yamaha's answer for their engine guards with the 14 is to cut away the small center portion of the new wind deflector. That little triangle is sacrificial. I can't speak to your problem with the panniers as I've gone with the OEM solution. As you hadn't mentioned them, is there a reason you hadn't considered them?

I also did the cutout on the wind deflector for the engine guard install. I had the factory bags on my 13 and didn't like them for two reasons.
1). The latches are terrible
2). I want a bag big enough to hold a full size helmet. A lot of the riding I do is commuting and would just like to peel off the helmet, jacket and gloves and stow them away.

What about the Jesse luggage. Al Jesse can figure out that mounting situation pretty quickly. May have already done it. And his luggage is imho the best there is.

Got it. Good luck finding what you want.

I saw the pictures, but understood your text to state that the covers were causing the interference.
I'll got Trekker Outbacks on my "12 and plan to move to a'14 later this year so I wanted to be clear on the issue. Not trying to bust your balls, just looking got understand the problem. Thanks for letting us in on this. ::003::

Does it really interfere to the point you couldn't install them? Touching the reservoir would probably take forever to be a real problem. Put a piece of inner tube in there for now to prevent wear.

Maybe just relocate the brake reservoir? It isn't critical where it is, or heck if it even exists, as long as there is enough spare fluid to account for pad wear.

I guess my pictures are not clear enough.
The Mounts will not clear the reservoir. You can't remove the reservoir and then reinstall either. The reservoir and whatever the new black metal canister is are going to cause any bag to be mounted out further to clear the obstructions. So there are two problems. One is that the reservoir interferes with the mount, and two in that the bags will have to be spaced out to clear the reservoir, box and cover.

So if the reservoir was gone, the canister would still be a problem?

Guess everyone will get their wish for symmetric luggage on the ES models...

For further clarification.
The front portion of the mount interferes with the brake reservoir.
The 'pod' or whatever that piece is juts out almost as far on the RH side as the exhaust does on the left.

I did just get word that SW Motech believes that their mounts will clearance the new pieces, but the largest bag that they have is their 45L which says is 11" wide............but the top opening is only 9.5" and that won't let a helmet go inside. I'm still back at the drawing board.

So what IS that pod?

Edit: Looked it up, that is another cover over the electronic preloader for your rear shock. You might be able to pull that plastic and gain some more clearance.

You bought a new bike that has only been out for a short period. You will either have to wait or pioneer.

I lost my Yamaha certification in the great flood of 1971, but here are two pictures of what is behind the rubber cover. To the best of my guessing, I would say it has something to do with the electronic rear suspension. It has an electrical connection and as well it has a hydraulic hose running from its' internals over to the rear shock.
Bitch to get the rubber cover back on.

Not that it helps here, but from everything I can tell the 2014 Standard model is setup just like the earlier models. I sure hope so because later this week I will be installing the Holan Panniers and racks onto my 2014 Blue....
