How much was compatible? Clutch switch plug? Main plug? Or did you just cut off the Yamaha plug and splice that into the Versys unit?
I took the Yamaha internals out, and put them in the Versys switch, then added jumpers to the switches to make them work. All the pictures start on reply #79 I think. Took me about 45 min start to finish.

This is brilliant. I am going to take a look at the guts of my Vstrom switch before I give it to its new owner. If not I'll source a Versys switch.

I use the hazards when I pull over to fiddle and while I don't often use F2P for getting people to move over I do use it when actually passing on two lane roads. Not sure if it is ever taught elsewhere but I was taught to do that (even in a car) when passing on two lane roads so that if an oncoming car suddenly appears it gets their attention or even a far off car. Also, the car you are passing often sees you and it can possibly prevent them making a left in front of you if you didn't see a driveway or such that they are about to turn into. I see others do it out here in the Western US but admittedly not often. I also use it as others have described for repeated short duration blasts of light. With the weird cut pattern of the S10 low beams I think I will use it a lot.

If the Vstrom one pans out I'll let you know, otherwise I will go the Versys route.

When I get back from my trip I will jumper these wires together with some positaps to test it out and confirm if it works as stated (jumper white/yellow with yellow) and report back on this thread.

Thanks,
Andy
Finally got around to doing this mod.

While not 100% plug and play the euro spec switch does work 100% if you bridge the yellow and yellow/white wires together. I chose to do this near the connector since it is a more sheltered location.

Upon this mod the switch functions 100% with F2P and hazard functions.

Again, the switch is expensive to get from Japan but I ordered it with some other stuff from there and had it thrown in the order.

Hope this helps,
Andy

I bought a Euro left hand switch from Japan when I was ordering some side panels so the shipping was gratis. The switch cost me about $130 US at the time.

Hope this helps.

Andy I just saw this posting, I was just about to PayPal my buddy in Italy $268 USD to have him order me this switch.. I would much rather pay $130 USD plus shipping from Japan.. Do you have the Japanese dealers contact info you would be willing to share?

Thanks-

Just ordered/paid for the switch from Japan-
$134 bucks shipped to California, said it will be packaged and headed my way in the next few days.

Will be VERY glad to have hazards, flash to pass will be a bonus. Anyone else wanting one just send him and email with the part number and he will get back to you with price/shipping cost.

Part number 23P-83969-01 I got this part number out of AndyCBR post #103-with a pic of the switch and part number.

I'm with Dallara on this one for the US and Canada bikes.
"What's really weird, and I've said it before, is that it probably costs Yamaha *MORE* money to have the bikes set up different with those switches... Having to source two different switches in their parts inventory, build different harnesses for the two different bikes and inventory those two different pieces, having to print the service and owners manuals differently, etc., etc., etc."

Thanks for the info, just ordered one for 11,840 yen in total. I'm paying for it, but I'm seeing it as a recall from Yamaha.

So when you receive your switch housing you will have to jumper yours as described in this thread to make it work?

No jumping the wires inside the switch is for guys using the non OEM Yamaha switch, I ordered the Yamaha OEM switch just like AndyCBR did, The only thing I will have to do is solder the two different wires together like in Andy's post #122-a few post before this one-

Just received a price of 11,840.00 JPY =129.996 USD for the left switch pod to my door in central VA. Tohru Tsuji at Motobike jp is very nice to deal with and responded quickly to my inquiry. I haven't pulled the trigger yet but a search on E Bay didn't turn up much in the way of left switch housings at least under the Suzuki parts.

How buried is the plug end inside the bike from the switch housing? Are we talking tank removal?

I could be wrong but it looks like Andy did it either on the actual switch harness or right near the connecter before the switch on the handlebars.. .. Maybe Andy will chime in about the exact spot he did this, on the switch side or one the wire loom side?

EDIT-- Looking at some more of Andy's pics it looks like to me that he jumped the wires on the new Yamaha switch, so it should be really easy job....

Ok I was more or less wondering where the plug connects to the bike harness because normally the wires come out of the switch housing and the harness travels down the H-Bar and plugs in somewhere hidden under the tank or elsewhere. I guess I could carry myself out to the garage and try to trace the plug end location. ;D

OK I understand what your asking now, I'm pretty sure it connects right down by the fork steam tube.. Easy access

I chose to do the splice on the switch side near the connector that plugs in to the bike. This location is sheltered and I dislike making mods to the main harness of the bike.

Hope that helps.

It is tucked in pretty well and terminates just above the battery under the right side cover. Tank removal would certainly help with access but you may be able to fish it out without.

ETA:

I had my tank off when I did this and I forget about the connector that goes under the tank and ends up at the horn. Pretty sure you couldn't get this pulled out or reinstalled after unless the tank is at least raised.

I think you guys are getting good deals now that the yen is down.

Tohru is excellent. I ordered my silver side panels from him too. Shipping was pricey but not ridiculous.

I first found him when a bunch of us from the advrider xrl forum were trying to find fmx650 5th gears. After months of waiting on uk suppliers at twice the price I was glad I found Tohru.

Andycbr, thanks for sharing your contact. I placed my order for the switch assembly today. I'm looking forward to having 4-way flash functionality again.
