Why all the rush? I'm going to relax a while and let my dealer practice on a bunch of other bikes until they're real good at it. O:)
For those of us in snowy northern climes, this is an ideal time to have the work done, since our machines are laid up for the winter anyway. We are still at least three weeks, and probably more, away from good riding conditions in my part of Canada.

Cheers,

Bruce

My Tenere is going in the shop on Tuesday morning for the new harness and a valve adjustment / spark plugs on Wednesday. A couple suspension adjustments and ready for another trip.

Got my letter today, just had my harness replaced last October under YES, so I may wait until this back tire is complete toast, and just get that and some other services done while its in for the harness recall.

And there is a remedy for anyone who paid to have this repaired pre-recall notice. The letter advises you to contact Yamaha Customer Relations at 800-962-7926. (This came up somewhere in one of these recall threads)

Got my letter yesterday morning and was riding it with the recall complete by the afternoon. First ride of the year, 45 degrees, on sandy, icy, snowy, wet streets and it was wonderful.

Took my Tenere in this morning for the Headlight Harness Recall. Took them about an hour and I think Yamaha is only paying them for 35 minutes.

There were signs of overheated wiring on the headlight harness. Looks like The Fix is heavier gauge wiring. The connectors look the same.

Letter came in the mail today. Calling dealer tomorrow, have them order parts and then take the scoot in for repair.

That's the plan anyway...

I too got my letter... however, since I had already purchased the sub-harness and installed it myself I called the 800 number on the letter. It states that IF you already replaced this part you "may" be eligible to be reimbursed for this.
So the "Customer Service" agent I got told me that a Yamaha dealer had to replace this part and I should take it in and have the part replaced. I again explained that I already replaced it myself. Again he said to take it to a dealer and have the new part installed. Hmmm....

I believe that the service mgr at the dealership where I purchased my Tenere will work with me on this. They want to get paid for the work too. I have the old part AND the receipt that shows I purchased it at a Yamaha dealer.

Wish me luck getting my $70 back.

Some have mentioned that the recall harness and the new harness people were installing prior to the recall don't have the same number. Anybody got confirmation of this?

You may simply be caught in deal where Yamaha, at least at the formal corporate level, requires the recall work to be performed by the dealer, not by end-users. So you need to take it in to be blessed, even if they leave the same part on.

What dealer did you use, Roseville?

Same harness people were installing prior but Yamaha has it packaged as a kit (with a different part #) for the recall. Per the recall documents:

XT1200Z Headlight Sub Lead Kit: 90891-30085-00

Kit Parts Contents:

Cord Assembly 23P-84312-01-00 Qty (1)
Clamp 90464-10012 Qty (1)

Thanks for the info. Yamaha probably requires that to comply with the mandatory recall, that 90891-30085-00 be installed; just installing 23P-84312-01-00 doesn't officially comply.

Got my letter today, called dealer in Ridgeland MS and they said they would order the parts and call me when they come in to schedule an appointment to have the work done.

If you take a close look at all the documents shown here - http://timetunnel.smugmug.com/Motorcycles/Super-Tenere-Harness-Recall/37217181_pjRDJx#!i=3089828416&k=KnnpbSq - you will see the recall is not dictated by VIN number, but instead by manufacturing date (which is right there on the manufacturer's ID plate where your VIN is), and for Super Tenere models includes *ALL* units manufactured between 10/2011 (October 2011) and 08/2013 (August 2013), as shown here:

If you take a look at the documents shown in the link above you will see some additional information on the recall, as well as the complete installation instructions that will direct dealership technicians on how to do the job to Yamaha's specifications, complete with the unit will be marked to show the recall has been done.

I just found a recall notice in my mail box - Ontario, Canada.
The letter recalls "all 2012-2013" units.

Got a call last Thursday from Temecula Motorsports that I was due for the recall. The letter from Yamaha came the next day. Set up an appointment and I am in this Saturday AM!

Then technically they gave it back performing better than when you left it. Even handles a bit better. All for about $7.00 :)

Got my notice in the mail the other day. Got a call from the dealer (Thousand Oaks Motorsports) today and will be taking it in tomorrow. I was actually advised not to ride it til the repair is done. Good thing I have a trailer, besides the fact I cant even ride right now. ::26::
