My dealer got the official notice of recall and my parts are en route. I'm hopeing it wont be long now as it may warm up enough to ride someday. :'(

Dealer ordered my parts today. Said he thought it might be a week to get them in. Considering we just got more snow today, I'm not even sure how soon I can get my bike over there.
Oh well, just excited to get it done

Why all the rush? I'm going to relax a while and let my dealer practice on a bunch of other bikes until they're real good at it. O:)

Suit yourself, but this is not rocket science. The mechanic just has to remove some fairings, the headlight assembly, and replace a wire.

I figured that I would call my dealer and at least get the parts ordered. He was now aware of the recall and will call me when the parts come in. Not in any hurry, but when riding season is upon us, it might be harder to get the bike in. ;D

I haven't received my letter yet, but the dealer's have received their letters about the recall. They had my vin on file from a previous service and looked it up and confirmed the recall. They said they would order the parts and when they came in, I could schedule a time to get it done.
The letter is just a notification to you. Your dealer will confirm it for you with your VIN number.

Here in Canada, the recall bulletin was just sent out on Wednesday this week to Yamaha dealers. My dealer had pre-ordered the parts prior to the release of the bulletin and did the work on my bike yesterday. Good to go now, just waiting for the snow to melt and the roads to clear up so I can get back out there! ::015::

Cheers,

Bruce

No letter here...haven't bothered to call the dealer....Can't ride it anyway so no rush to get it done. I don't want to have to trailer the bike to the dealer just for the recall.

+1 Simple as it is, it can still wind up in the hands of a tech that starts pulling and prying on plastic pieces because he doesn't slow down and pay attention to how things come apart.

So than you wind up with more new parts on them for breaking it. ;)

You bring up valid points. at the risk of showing my distrust for dealer work, maybe I'll print off a set of the instructions and hand it to him to make sure they're doing it correctly. ??? ;D

Funny you guys should mention, during my FJR years the dealer didn't do enough work and gave me the parts for the two FJR recalls. It was fine with me that he got the labor paid to him. Meant no re-work and hassle for me.

Just curious...

Was anybody this wound up and in a hurry when the fuel pump o-ring recall was issued? ::025::

Seems a lot of folks are really worried, anxious, and stressed about this one.

Me, I'm in no rush. My bike and its headlamps are working fine, and I doubt I'll get around to the headlamp harness recall until next month at the earliest. Certainly doubt I'll have it done before the Hill Country ride get-together in a couple of weeks.

Why all the concern and rush?

And like Terrysig, my dealer has not problem giving me the recall parts and letting me do all my own work. Always has in the past, and in our discussions that's what will happen this time.

Man, I would love it if my dealer would give me the parts so I could do it. I don't have that relationship with my dealer though, so I know that won't happen. On the other hand, I'm thinking about just buying the new harness when it's available, maybe later this year, and installing it myself. My harness is fine right now, and shows no signs of burning at the connectors.

Unfortunately I've had multiple bad experiences that have made me the way I am. Mostly with automotive work, but with motorcycles as well. Guys I work with say I just have bad luck, but I don't see it that way. I believe that more than half the time, repair work isn't done 100% right, and I'm just one of the few that checks over the work and finds the mistakes.

Hi Dallara! At least in my case the rush is do to not wanting to waste good weather weekend coming up. So now is the time. As far as stress about it. Just dont want some 18 yr old HACK to "learn" on my bike. Just like when they assembled it.

i was more wondering if dealers were gonna REQUIRE us to show a personal recall letter from Yamaha to the individual b4 they'd honor to fix the bike; I bought my s10 out of state an I kno others may have gotten theirs as used rides and for some we may not be on a list to get the personal notice... I understand that the dealers got a notice, it seemed some were suggesting we as individuals needed to be on the lookout for a personal notice to be able to get the fix as well.

Not to worry, if you've had the bike serviced at the dealer they already have your VIN and know if the bike is w/in the recall range, if not, they will just look up your VIN and will service as appropriate...whether you get a notice from Yamaha at your house in the mail or not. as did my dealer when I called them just now, part ordered and service scheduled along w/ 24k valve chk/adjust,,, i'll take it in just as soon as the ice and salt is out around here. zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

Cheers, d ::001::
