Finally got round to calling my dealer, as expected they had no idea what I was talking about.....took my info and "will get back to me". I think they only sold one Tenere....mine. Its a big dealership they sell lots of sleds, PWC's and ATV's....I think the obscure MC gets lost in the shuffle.

We'll see if they call me back. ::)

Thanks to this site, I knew about the recall before it was officially announced by Yamaha Canada. I alerted my dealer, who jumped on it right away. He went to the U.S. Yamaha website, found the replacement part numbers, ordered and installed them on my bike a week or so before I received my official recall letter. The Yamaha Canada rep actually called him after the fact wondering how he knew about the recall even before it was acknowledged by the Canadian distributor. The power of the Internet, baby! ::013::

I'd posted earlier that I had contacted Yamaha Customer Service regarding the recall before it was an official recall. Spoke with CS, then to Parts Procurement regarding the procedure. They were very helpful. I then went to my dealer as instructed (on March 1), he took my information and I left it at that for a couple weeks. I called the dealer on March 11. Parts had no knowledge of the harness and service said 'Yamaha hasn't sent us anything'. Ok. Let some more time go by. Yesterday (April 2), I again called the dealer. Service told me 'our service rep said the part is on backorder but we should be receiving some in a week or so'. I then called Yamaha again and spoke with the same two people who had helped me a month ago. The person in Parts Procurement actually looked up the dealer and any orders and shipments they may have received. She told me that the dealer had ordered the harnedss on March 11 and had received it on March 17. I then called the dealer AGAIN...and told them the information that Yamaha had just told me. They hunted around a bit and found the part. And they wonder why I don't have a good feeling about dealing with them, and why I'm looking to take my bike elsewhere when it comes time to check/adjust the valves?

Morris at wildwood (Yamaha, Winnipeg) helped me out big time. for various reasons, my s10 was not purchased in Canada but Morris and the crew set me up and got the recalls (O-ring and headlight harness) handled in days from my first inquiry. they also did a valve check (52,000km) and sent me out the door at reasonable cost. nice shop with Ducati, BMW, Triumph and Yamaha.

Just to note...

My dealer's service manager called me today and said my harness recall kit was in, so I dropped by and picked it up. Cool little box with it's own part number and everything, with the new recall harness and the clip inside. Nice.

All my dealer asked was once I did the install was to come by and let them mark the bike as outlined in the recall instructions.

Quick, easy, painless. :)

I just got the recall done today, but I am wondering about a comment they made regarding the wiring harness. They called me to let me know my left headlight bulb was out and that the harness change didn't effect the headlight only the small side lights. This doesn't sound right to me. But they also told me the bulb was a H4 instead of the H7 it really is.
Does anyone have a photo of the actual harness that is being replaced and is it for the headlight or just the side lights?

Ditto, got my recall done yesterday with no complications. Good to have friends in the wrench dept. that
I can trust to do the job right. The parts folks had a bit of fun with things at first, come to find out they did not
have the upgraded replacement part on hand & had to get corporate to send them the correct stuff. A little
extra wait but very little downtime. The good folks at H&W were kind enough to loan me a Raider for the morning while
the S10 was gettng its fix. Those blasted forward controls on cruiser bikes are always mighty weird to get adjusted
to! Not a bad scoot for a chopper type deal, loads of torque from the mill. Still glad to be back home on the ten-
spot again & knowing that the headlight issue is no longer a concern.

There seems to be some stepping, fetching, and worrying in this thread about exactly what is being replaced, etc. There really isn't anything to worry about as long as your bike has been marked as having the recall.

Here's the box the dealer gets with your recall parts in it, which are a *COMPLETE* headlamp sub-harness and a little clip. The clip is in there just so it can be replaced if the one on the bike is somehow damaged during the recall harness installation...

And here's a picture of the complete headlamp sub-harness contained in the recall kit, *COMPLETE* with all plugs, wiring, etc. that is in the original harness - i.e. the black H7 headlamp bulb plugs, the small black, square elongated plugs for the high-low beam solenoid that operates the projector shutters in the headlamps themselves, the long gray sockets for the marker lamps, and the white plug that plugs this sub-harness into the main wiring harness of the bike...

And note in these two pictures the H7 headlamp bulb plugs...

They're not my best photographic work, but I did them "quick and dirty" with my small camera. Afraid I don't have time for much else today.

But the real point is I don't think anyone needs to worry. If the dealer did the recall this harness above is what you get in the kit.

And while we're on the subject... Anyone else notice how much less the MSRP of the recall kit is compared to if you were to go out and buy a brand new headlamp sub-harness? ;)

Hope this helps!

Gave my local yam dealer my Tenere it will take a week to get the job done although the Recall letter states takes one hour.
Why they can't order the part ahead of time is beyond me.. ::007::

That is kinda odd, Ramsey. They could have just ordered the part & then scheduled you in at your convenience
once the stuff is on hand for the fix. The recall letter does state 'do not operate the bike until this recall is performed'
which in some extreme cases would be the right call. One never knows, but better safe then crash & burn.

My dealer performed the work today, the day I scheduled for my convenience. The service manager even apologized for not starting the work right away, the delay was 15 minutes. ;D

The work was done quickly, they offered me coffee and a place to relax. The service tech even neatened up my Powerlet wiring. It's nice that some people still take pride in their work and service.

I highly recommend Cahill's of Zephyrhills Florida.

Your dealer didn't want to interrupt his normal service schedule to do your recall work. Neither did mine, but he was polite enough to schedule me a time a week out. When I brought the bike in, I BSed a bit with the sales people, then took a bike for an hour demo ride and when I got back, my bike was ready to go. They had the parts before they called me about the recall, and I got the Yamaha letter a couple of days after they called me. All in all, I'm ok with that service. An zero comments about my original harness having the plugs cut off when I dropped the bike off. (I saved the ceramic plug connectors, just in case.)

I went the route of purchasing the harness, (about $70), and installing it a couple of weeks ago. I don't know the service department of my dealer, since I've never used them. I do work with a few guys that have used them, and didn't have good experiences. That was enough to make me just order the harness myself. I enjoy working on and "getting to know" my bike anyway. I had a good time relaxing in the garage with a cup of coffee, listening to some music, and switching out the harness. I paid for the harness, but it was worth a relaxing morning in the garage, vs an appointment with the dealer that may or may not have irritated me.

Funny, but along with the harness, I ordered the clip, just in case I broke it. The old clip didn't break, so I didn't need to replace it. Good thing, because the new clip disappeared somewhere in its journey to my door. (Cheap Cycle Parts sent the harness and clip separately). It's been weeks now, and I often wonder what happened to my little black clip. :D

And there's a little lesson in here for anyone out there contemplating going the same route - i.e. just buying a new harness instead of having a dealer do the recall.

If you purchase the new harness by ordering the latest headlamp harness - part number: 23P-84312-01-00 - you will pay somewhere between $65 and $90, depending on where you source it... And you won't get the clip.

OTOH, if you order the headlamp harness recall kit - part number: 90891-30085-00 - you will get the latest harness *AND* the clip... And all for an suggested retail price of only $38.13.

It's a quick way to save a few coins! ;)

Just FYI...

I visited my dealer. He ordered the part that came in Wednesday, and made an appointment for yesterday. I dropped off the bike at 9 and they called me at 10 to pick it up. Done. I can't figure out why your dealer couldn't do that.

I wonder if it took a little time for the online OEM parts suppliers to update their systems? I asked about the 90891-30085-00 kit before I ordered the harness and clip separately, and a couple of suppliers said "part number doesn't exist, or not in their system". Granted, I never tried going through my dealer directly, because I figured they would just tell me to bring the bike in. Lesson learned.

Went back and did some looking around. Sure enough, I just didn't spend enough time searching. Some places still show that part doesn't exist, but I found it at Stadium Yamaha for $26 bucks! Thanks Dallara, I was in a good mood this morning. :)

Hey rotortech,
Remove the few additional buck$ from the whole headlight harness scenario, and I think your way of handling it qualifies for the Self reliant award. You get props from me dude. :)
