An short report regarding the E-07 Dakars.
They now have just over 6000 km on them which includes a 10 day, 4000km ride through central B.C. backroads.
The back started out with approx 12mm tread depth and the front approx 6.5mm when new. Ran 36F & 40R psi. and didn't air them down for the off pavement sections.
The ride included 1600 km of dirt, gravel, and not so good gravel roads. Tires worked very well, when compared to the last two sets of Heidenau K60, the E-07 rear feels more reassuring in the loose stuff. Front feels very similar to the K60 front.
The rear now shows approx. 9.90 mm tread depth and the front approx. 6mm. Still noise at speed on pavement, but less than the K60. Overall they compare very well to the Heidenau.
I see other reports of them going 20,000km. Will be interesting to see how these ones last as I was getting 15,000 and 18,000km from the last two sets of Heidenaus.

How do you like the Dakars on the pavement?

In the rain?
They feel very similar to the Heidenau, which I had no issues with on dry pavement. Only visible difference is after a good pavement ride there was still a small amount of unused tread left on the sides of the Heidenau rear and on the Mitas rear, its all been used. The tread on the Mitas doesn't wrap up the sides quite as far as the Heidenau.
Any serious rain and a 50-50 tire don't mix well, so I take it easy when its wet.
The only negative I can see is availability. This set was ordered from MX1 in January, and delivered in February. Looks like none available till the middle of July the last time I checked.

The regular E07 are a bitch to put on. Stiff sidewall. The Dakars are a bitch x 2 due to ultra stiff sidewalls. Of course BWC wouldn't know this because he has a pro tire machine in his garage. ::008::

Hi Bernie, can you do a tire change for beer :))

Tire changes are negotiable.
But for a few more beer we could put on that new 2BS 2014 clutch basket, that I'm pretty sure you will also have on order. ::003::

I can't believe you'd rat him out like that! Most guys that have tire change setups like to keep it hush hush. Otherwise the line forms every Saturday and you never get to actually go RIDING! ::025::

has anyone found a U.S. source for these tires?
There are a few on ADVRider, but really it doesn't matter. The Canada source is fine. Don't be afraid. Shipped to your door from Canada they are still right around $300 like just about any other set of comparable tires.

It seems availability is a problem with the Mitas E-07 tires at times, as they sell out quick. I have spoken with the folks at MX1 and their shipping rates to the US are based on their cost only. The difference on the US-CA dollar must almost cover the shipping costs to US customers at this point.
Its a good idea to get on their Email list to know when the next shipment arrives and place an order.
Us Canucks are well used to the shipping cost problem as almost all accessories for these big ass dirt bikes comes from US retailers, with the shipping, brokerage, custom fees, taxes and difference on the dollar thrown in. :(

Can you get those tires without the stupid yellow stripe? That's really sissy. Did you put that on them yourself ??? ::012:: R

Tires are painted at the factory, and if you look at the second pic it wears off. Not like those stupid colored strip import tuner tires!

The stripe is to identify the Dakar E07 from the standard E07 as the Dakar have an extra ply in the carcass.
And it does make my tires way cooler than yours Rem. :D
I do have a tin of yellow safety marking paint in the shop that you could use. Just make sure you paint the lines straight. ::013::

I'm not having any of that sissy, Nancy-boy yellow paint stripe on my tires. Nossir. I'm gonna paint a black stripe on mine so it will really look manly and ....... uh ... hold on .... OK, never mind. Sorry. R ::021::

So I've had these tires on now for a couple thousand miles with 50/50 use…

They are outstanding in the "dirt", gravel, sand, rocks, big rocks. I've not had them in mud yet. The wear is good. I've not measured tread depth but I'm not seeing any fast or unusual wear.

Onroad they aren't bad. You are able to ride at a brisk speed without worry. They are also very good in the rain. Sure the painted strips are slippery just as they were with the stock battlewings...

While you can lean them in pretty far they aren't road tires or like stock Battlwings. The front-tire can be a bit numb when going through faster corners. Nothing to worry about just front-end feedback is a bit lacking. They also don't like being flicked quickly from side to side on cold pavement. I got a few massive rear wheel slides. Long enough that I instinctively had my foot off the peg and ready to put my foot down ala "flat-tracking"… being smoother and lighter on the throttle fixed that (I'm a former roadracer and former squid).

Overall very happy with them. I usually stick with what works for me. I was tempted to try Heidenaus next, but unless I find something way wrong with these, I'm sticking with them...

I've got to get a hold of Dave Durell and get a set of these coming. I'm not happy at all with the wear on the Karoo 3's that I have currently mounted (it's a good thing they were free). I may run an E-09/10 on the front with a 07 rear though.
