Shucks Steve, you sound like a Harley rider bitchen about electric starters. LOL
Hi Scott. How are you doing?
Guilty as charged here.
I have a one track mind when it comes to "Dirt Bikes" Them words only mean MOTOCROSS to me.
I do have a XC-W and have ridden some of the toughest trails in Colorado and Utah and Chadwick with it but if anyone says "Dirt Bike" I'm thinking motocross, and I ride a 125 2stroke. There is no reason in the world to have a fake clutch on a 125 2stroke on a motocross track. If you are half competent at all on a 125 the RPM will never be low enough to stall the engine. Ever! You don't even use 1st gear ever, Except for starts.
I realize that Madhatter is new at dirt and a Rekluse is probable great for him, Someday I'll have to realize that there is life after Motocross, right now though I've got to go pout because it snowed here and I can't ride my Motocross Dirt Bike.

The auto clutch I have is a revlock. It engages right of idle instantly. I can still over ride it with my lever. I've had it for at least 10 years and never had to do anything to it. When I dump it. It'll lay there and idle like a pussy cat.

My 500 Xc-w came with a rekluse. Do I need it ? No. Do I like it ? Heck yes. To me the 500 is the perfect "one dirt bike " bike. Lite enough to ride the hard stuff plus , good enough for the highway. At least for me .

did you post the wrong video ? I saw absolutely nothing about you or a young lady completing a ride
That was the right video. I was showing the difficulty of the trail. Video did no justice. I normally am left behind with guys that I ride with in that kind of stuff. This was a rare moment where she and I were waiting, and waiting, and waiting. When the trail started getting rough a few miles in both she and I passed everyone. To be fair this is a black diamond trail that Malcom Smith himself laid out.

Here she is in action. Very good rider. I only had to help her in a few sections and only because she overheated. The other riders were cussing and whining.

Motocross is a whole different sport than off road. I don't know of many 2T's that are running a Rekluse on the track. Track riding is a young mans sport. I'm past that point of chancing another rider landing on top of me or come up short on a double and get an airlift.

What's a fake clutch? I have never heard of one of those.

Next thing you know guys will be saying how dumb a steering damper is!! LOL :D

Well she is no quitter but I wouldn’t even attempt to start on a trail that rough ! Obviously your goals are totally different than mine.
When I heal up I will not be doing that kind of riding much more. It used to be fun but not anymore. I even had a good taste of my Super Tenere off the grid in some hard core terrain.

My favorite kind of riding is flowing trails, dunes, and hill climbs. A few hard sections like the video I posted is ok. But when you have miles and miles of it then what's the point?

On my Super Tenere I am really liking the long comfortable saddle days on pavement and smooth 2 track.

2015 was a turning point for me. I entered a very hard event that was 200 miles and close to 150 miles of it was the nastiest stuff you can imagine. I trained hard in the gym, rode every singe AM and PM section for weeks leading up to the event.

I simply did not have the speed or energy required to complete it. I bailed at the 50 mile mark. In order to finish most riders had to make up time on fire roads and pavement by going way faster than safe. No excuses, simply lack of stamina and balls on my part.

One positive thing I learned out of the event was safe navigation. One of our club guys (who easily finished) trained with me one full day. I soaked up all of his knowledge for navigating tracks.

eemsreno , you and my neighbor would be good friends cause all he wants to do is mx .... im a whole lot better in first gear on a trail than first gear on the mx track . this beta is 30 lbs lighter than the honda an inch or two shorter and has a magic clutch (radius cx ) hope to get some more practice in this weekend . we have some trails laid out and are planning to add some more and at some point will be able to ride a course which we can time and see how one is progressing . man just knowing were to put your feet in the woods is pretty daunting especially when trying to make some time . lots to learn . kinda funny ,had the bike not had the recluse already installed at the factory , it would have came with a stock clutch and there would be no debate about real or fake clutch........ I got this bike pretty cheap and it came with a lot of stuff from the factory . new it cost 9400.00 plus all the upgrades that guy added close to 2k in extras .

so I'm off today had a dr. appt. then drive to my other dr. appt in another town , then drive to another dr appt in yet another town .... so what to do with the rest of my day ? I pull out the beta with the fake clutch and rode around in my front yard .... it just putted along , even did a small snap wheelie , just a throttle blip , raised the front a few inches . I think it likes its new home . as for me the dr stuff is just annual older man things they like to watch .... ready for Saturday .

lots of rain here yesterday. the unofficial Home Depot bucket rain gauge had 6 inches in it , it rained pretty steady for about 8 hours .
but 30 miles away at carrots place hardly a drop , so will be going there today . so on most Sundays I'm in church but the pastor has c-19 , so it is quiet time on the trails today .
last week was my first time to ride the Beta and it didn't take to long to feel comfortable on it and will be a nice test to see if that holds true today. last week was getting to know the bike and how the 2 stroke performed and some obstacle practice . the suspension is noticeably more compliant than the honda (could be the previous owner of the beta knows how to adjust the clickers better than me. ) especially the rear.
one thing carrot and I did before I left his place last week was to remove 2 T post next to a trail with a 4 ft drop . I felt to jump that or climb it if there was any mistakes , they were close enough to impale or injure one of us . so they are gone . a nice progression in difficulty to learn on . I've never jumped a bike but this looks like an easy starting place , its about learning control . you can crawl up or down or launch yourself .
one can laugh and I know im going to suck at it today , but im excited to give it a try , might even have a picture to share .
this morning it is 36 outside , and about time I get to carrots it will be mid 40's , by noon mid to low 60's. and lots of sunshine . should be a great day of riding and practice .

Nothing like a great day working out on the dirt bike. Yes you can get hurt on them but they are a great way to work out and have fun too. I always feel better after riding and playing on my dirt bike. Mental and physical therapy for me.

Another fun thing to do is simple balance drills at home. Even in the garage. In no time your legs will be burning and your heart rate goes up.
