So, am I reading/understanding this correctly? "Halt the intake". No arrests? Maybe that explains the migration of Californians to Texas. :)
Almost correct. They are putting them in the county jails instead. So you are thinking cool at least they are confined. Not so fast!! The county jails are overcrowded. So the Sheriff's have no choice but to release the lower level criminals.

Divorces reported sky rocketed in China when people could finally leave their homes and I'm sure it'll happen here.

IF I had to live with my ex under this stay-at-home order, one of us would probably not leave the house alive.
LOL!!

California has done this for years. When the Feds came in and told the state they were overcrowded, they pawned (forced) off as many inmates they could to county jails, and than paraded around saying how they solved the overcrowding, how brilliant the state guberment was. When the county had to release inmates and were getting hammered by the courts for overcrowding, the state just kept saying "so sorry", you need to solve your own problem. Just have to love it....

Yes it is a big problem. And now the crime level is through the roof. It's not on the media much. But one drive to the gas station at night shows me all the cockroaches lurking around to steal.

Another HUGE issue is the DMV here in CA. All the offices are closed statewide. My moms appointment for license renewal has been cancelled with no warning. She had an appointment made months in advance. Went to the DMV and closed!! She will be driving on an expired license. She is working with the insurance to stay insured.

What really gets under my skin is the daily Q&A to our governor. Stupid questions and comments from media. Not one single question directed to the DMV situation. This is a big deal. With no way to take the test how will we keep our license? DOT requires Class A commercial drivers to take at least the Haz Mat test every renewal cycle.

And there is the conundrum. No LEO is going to do anything about it, unless something was expired for some time prior this situation. The problem will be when/if something happens, will the insurance companies, and sharks do the right thing.

Of course Newsom could issue an executive order putting an extension on that stuff for say, six months.

It's not just masks. Those 4 places had strict stay-at-home orders early, did extensive testing, and implemented calls to those contacted by people with positive test results. By comparison, the US:

Only has some States with stay-at-home orders and they are very loose.

According to Pence today, the US is testing about 100,000 people per day. With a population of 327 million, that means testing only 0.03% per day. Slightly more than enough to say it is being done and to confirm new cases, but not enough to really be effective in slowing the spread. We had months to have test kits made and prepare.

And you can't find/notify people who had contact with a person if you only can do enough testing to give it lip service.

Interesting chart on the efficacy of masks.

... as an opinion needs to be well informed, not just made up.
Um...clearly you must not have had any access to American news media over the last few years. The thought of "well informed" has absolutely no relevance to news opinion over here.

I had ass-summed that the reason they were advising regular folk (non medical personnel) not to use face masks, was so that there'd be more for first responders, and medical personnel, because of the shortage. Of course, if people would stay home, they wouldn't need the masks.

Don't worry Chris, we outside the wall are well appraised of the problem which is partly why I called "FAKE NEWS".

I realise that the mask issue is a particularly sticky one for you, given your previous posts. My posts you'll notice tend to be more broadly based.
No problem we all have our own way of dealing with this.

The chart I posted concerning mask wearing purports to be from John Hopkins University, Center for Systems Science and Engineering. However, a search of JHU website turns up no such chart. My Google-Fu powers are limited, perhaps someone more skilled than I can locate the source of the chart. The fine print at the bottom left may be helpful.
If I remember my history correctly, John Hopkins University founded one of the first medical schools in the United States, which was very involved in coping with the Great Influenza in 1918-1920 (Spanish Flu). If indeed the chart has been provided by JHU, then I would say the "Fake News" claim is not valid.
If the chart has come from an unverified source, then I will concede that it is Fake News.

The Dietdoctor team is headquartered in Stockholm, Sweden. I have followed them for years. They have a history of calling out and exposing fake medical news. I consider them to be a reliable source.
I agree that there is a lot of fake news out there, but some news is not fake. The article I cited is well researched and vetted. If, after you read the article, you still think it is fake, please explain why.

Said it nice before and will now be more blunt.

KNOCK OFF THE POLITICAL COMMENTS.

We ALL have them and NONE of us will change the mind of another person with a few posts on a motorcycle forum. It just makes others upset, complain to the mods, and we all have enough stress right now.

Even if I was able I would not be riding. I'm following the orders. The risk and spread of this virus from just a simple injury is too great. I was getting food the other day and a huge amount of mountain bike riders and motorcycle riders were out. It was unbelievable!! The general public is not taking this serious enough. Just one person having to use a hospital bed can put thousands at risk in just a few days. Pictures and videos of guys just ignoring the "shelter in place" order is astounding.

I see this getting worse as we move forward. For you riders that think it's ok to ride, please think about your fellow man/woman who you are putting at risk. How about we follow the rules and help each other out as much as possible. Of course I know darn well this is falling on deaf ears. Many human beings are very selfish, self centered, and care only for themselves. Even a solo ride on the track or in the desert can be a disaster.

I go to the store once a week, online banking or ATM, and get fuel late at night. That's it. When I go out I wear a mask and gloves, I wash my hands, don't touch my face, and disinfect everything my hand goes on before and after touching it. I have a family I love and care as much as myself. So I will continue to follow the law and health officials advice.

Consider this the next time you swing a leg over your bike for a ride. Who are you doing this for? During this time of a pandemic not one person on earth should be so selfish as to be risking millions of lives for a little fun.

The state of Idaho cases and deaths is growing at an alarming rate. When my wife's uncle passed last week, there were 2 deaths and and a few hundred cases confirmed total. Now the state has 9 deaths and over 200 cases confirmed in one day!! The whole state is almost at the 1000 mark of total confirmed as of yesterday. Confirmed cases have quadrupled in less than a week. Confirmed cases in one day have went up well over 100 fold in the same time period.

So please explain to me why there is such a need to ride? Might just as well put a bullet in a six shooter, spin the cylinder, point and shoot a random person, then repeat.

Is this sobering enough for you? In less than 11 days the cases in the United States have sextupled. We now have more confirmed cases than anywhere on earth. The death toll has more than tripled.

A friend of ours in Hawaii recently recovered from COVID-19. She was very high risk due to having been a four time cancer survivor, so it's great she made it through. She made some interesting observations (she's a highly educated behavioural therapist). She observed the general trend of limited testing, even for those with symptoms. She also noted that once someone passes away, they are not tested. So if someone wasn't tested while living and then passes away, there's not going to be a record of a COVID-19 death (and maybe not recovery if they survive). This has led her to conclude that there are many more cases of COVID-19 than we are aware of (that's pretty much general knowledge at this point) but also that there are likely many more deaths and maybe many more recoveries and carriers than we are aware of.

The point is that the reported numbers (cases, deaths, recoveries) are only telling part of the story. It's clear that COVID-19 exacerbates existing conditions, particularly if cardio-vascular related. The U.S. had some visibility on the spread and effects, but we've got some big blind spots due to the lack of comprehensive testing.

Be careful out there and understand that the number of reported cases and outcomes understates the spread and impact. We are entering the steep part of the exponential curve. NY is an early indicator of where it can head anywhere. CA and WA may be good indicators of the value of staying isolated to protect yourself and also protecting others from something you may not know you have.
