Is Motul 5100 same as Yamalube 10/40.

They will even warranty it, if it has 300K+ miles on it, while using Motul, and not Yamalube. I can understand the argument between synthetic and non-synthetic, and some oils have more "cleaning" additives, but to put a blatant statement out, you need facts, and stats to back it.
Sorry Mark but you are wrong. Here are the facts that will get your warranty claim denied. This comes directly from the YES contract that many purchased through their Yamaha dealer.

SPECIFIC EXCLUSIONS This Y.E.S. Contract does not cover:

Mechanical breakdown(s) caused by parts that have failed due to improper maintenance or use of any part that does not meet the veracious quality of Yamaha parts specified.

Any mechanical breakdown(s) caused by: Installation of oil, parts or accessories that are not of like kind and meet the exact specifications and quality to genuine Yamaha lubricants, parts, and/or accessories.

These kind of subjects are always good for a lot of discussion. It should be about facts, but it usualy ends up in opinions and experiences. I respect everybody’s choice, and i stick with mine ;).

Chris, I have weigh in on this one. EMPHATICALLY your warranty can not be voided for using another brand of oil that meets the specs of the manufacture. I have been in the car industry forever. I have seen it first hand, 78FA838D-6E18-46E8-B1B3-9C139E5D3B53.pngEDF13A6A-F445-4795-9B63-8CB76E78BBF3.png82B81826-A934-4D8D-BF6D-B02758DD51E0.pngBut don’t take my word for it read. Now with that said you may be right about the oil causing trouble (I really don’t know) but it is Yamaha‘s or the warranties companies problem. I for one like T6 Rotella and consider this other stuff (Amsoil, Royal purple, Motul,) to be over priced oil. But if you makes you feel good do it.

It doesn’t say that if you don’t use Yamahalube oil nor does it say that any other oil will invalidate the warranty. What it does say is, (and we are talking about oil only here), is that if the oil specification does not meet that recommended by Yamaha, only then would the warranty be invalid. Therefore, you can use any oil that meets or exceeds Yamaha’s specifications whether it is called Motul, Mobil, Shell, Citgo or Walmart Super Oily Stuff!

My only concern with car oil, is that it doesn't have the shear, or anti-shear, additives that motorcycle oil has. The additives are in there because of being used with a clutch. I always figured that's why the Castrol 20w-50 wore out so quick in the FJ; wasn't made for a bike. I knew it was time to change when I started to miss gear shifts. I always thought it was stupid to use motorcycle oil in the RT1150. . . . it's a dry clutch, so any quality oil should work.

Almost like the difference between "recommendation" and "requirement" is not understood, whether on purpose or not is another matter of course.

re·quire·ment | \ ri-ˈkwī(-ə)r-mənt How to pronounce requirement (audio) \
Definition of requirement

: something required:
a: something wanted or needed : NECESSITYproduction was not sufficient to satisfy military requirements
b: something essential to the existence or occurrence of something else : CONDITIONfailed to meet the school's requirements for graduation

Vs

rec·om·men·da·tion | \ ˌre-kə-mən-ˈdā-shən How to pronounce recommendation (audio) , -ˌmen- \
Definition of recommendation

1a: the act of recommending
b: something (such as a procedure) recommended
2: something that recommends or expresses commendation

Not that I think it'll help, but just in case.

To use the words in a sentence: Yamaha is making a recommendation to use their oil, but for warranty it is a requirement to use motorcycle specific oil, such as JASON MA or MA2.

So I must have just got lucky then???
I know have 130,000 miles on my bike and i bought it with 5,000 miles.
So, I've done 125,000 miles all with Motul oil and NO problems.
Make your own judgements on that folks but I think my experience goes some way to proving that you WON'T have problems using Motul

I ran mobil 1 car oil in my Harley Davidsons , 15w 50. 200k no problem. If you have the dreaded clutch problem you will know it quick. Half our forum ran the stuff. $20 for a jug. Great oil. You can tell if there is a problem, the forum will light up like an Xmas tree. There are always nay sayers. Harley still honored it warranties. They had a valve seal problem on the 2005 - 88 motors. They consumed a lot of oil. image.jpg They fixed mine, Nothing to do with the oil. They knew I changed it regular. They said it was clean as hell in there. Shit as long as the clutch is cool why not NASCAR runs it and they beat the hell out of oils and motors. I like bang for the buck Rotella T6 gives me the JASO certification and I like the oil better.

Well you guys choose your oil and I choose mine. I'm price driven for the very cheapest oil I can find. Motul meets that requirement. I can get conveniently the low grade crappy Motul 300V at any local corner bike shop. The gold standard of oils Shell Rotella is much more difficult to find and much more expensive at over 20.00 a bottle!!

It’s less than 20 bucks for a jug, with rebate at Walmart. Without 22 bucks or so. One jug one oil change. Dry sump use the whole thing put the old back in the jug best way to see if you are burning oil.

Argh, you need to read. I specifically said meets Yamaha specs. And you do know that is backed up by federal law.
