I may be crazy but I traded my Tenere for a new BMW R1200RT

They haven't forgotten they know their customer has deep pockets and have set the system to milk them dry ::024:: (former owner of a 2000 R1100RTSE)

Thanks for the good advice and warning on service. I made the dealer quote $150 for the 600 mile service flat fee and I will do all other work myself.
I lived with a 2007 KTM 990 for 2 years and hoping this wont be as taxing. I am ok with the cash so I really just wanted t try the RT. I did try a Goldwing and K1600 but they feel heavy and much less entertaining than the RT so that is what I ended up with.

Did the FJR not interest you? If entertaining is the focus... err, sorry, but the RT was pretty bland to me, owning a FJR. Noisy, slow, klunky and laughably down on power. Feature rich though! ;) Granted, I haven't ridden the "new" RT. But I have a hard time believing it's anything to write home about after the hack job they did with the "new" GS.

 You're sadly mistaken. Get thee to a dealer asap. I'm not joking, or trying to be funny. You have outstanding puma letters on your bike. Secret ones and public ones. Radiator cap, water pump, and probably one more that I'll just let lie. They will tell you there is no radiator cap puma letter. But mark your cap, it won't be the one on there when you pick the bike up.

BMW makes feature rich, wonderful bikes to ride. But they have forgotten that scheduled maintenance should be a lot farther apart and a lot cheaper.
Did Lee Harvey Oswald act alone? Does Bigfoot exist?

Seriously, your "secrets" are not so secret within the K1600 community... You could probably learn more on that forum...

I don't care if it is for an old Chinese Beemer clone - when you have the itch, you need to scratch it.

Since you have the newest water boxer, it's a completely redesigned bike and few have ridden one. Enjoy being the first on your block, never mind the nay-sayers, it's your bike and your feeling about what sits in your garage is what counts.

Congratulations!

I am not happy at all. He is a traitor. He betrayed the family by supporting the enemey. :D He should be deported to BMW land.

Two of my riding buddies have FJR's and love the smooth motor and seat but find they feel heavy and slow to turn in. I always lost them in the twistys with the Tenere. I love fit and finish on my bikes, guns, and tools. I just cannot get over how cheap the controls on the FJR feel and look. The switches look like the dug them out of a parts bin. I find the design and machine work on BMW is much more appealing to me.
What pushed me over was the Motorcyclist mag article. The writer said he was totaled surprised to watch the other writer on a FJR disappear in the review mirrors in the mountains.

Loved my RT, great comfort level, feature rich, great fuel mileage and range.
If it had Yamaha reliability I would still have it.

Life to too short to ride the wrong bike. If the BMW is the right bike for you, congrats. Enjoy.

Congrats on the new bike you're going to love it. There's a LOT of misinformation about BMW in this thread and on this site in general.

Get what works for YOU, if that don't work, get something else.

The RT is pretty sweet. At the moment, I'm more into the ADV style bikes even though my riding is mostly sport touring but I'm okay with being a poser.. LOL

Then don't BS people on the list about how you never take the bike in and you've had no issues. Having to replace oem parts is an issue on a brand new bike. I know more than a few K1600 riders, "in the community". It's a BMW, no change from before. I do hope you continue to enjoy the bike.

Oh, and no, to both. ::025::

Enjoy your new bike! ::008::

IMHO the RT is the best thing BMW builds.

Yes you're crazy. The RT is the slowest most boring piece of shite I have ever ridden. Having said that we are all different and you get to choose what to ride so nobody elses opinion is of any consequence :)

I had an 08, loved the bike. I should have kept it. With the WaterBoxer it's got to be a kick. ENJOY IT.

So, you "know more than a few K1600 riders, in the community"... Thats an impressive and comprehensive vantage point from which you bash the K16... What is your actual experience with it??

"Then don't BS people on the list about how you never take the bike in and you've had no issues"... What, exactly, do YOU KNOW about my bike??

" Having to replace oem parts is an issue on a brand new bike"... Are you implying that's never happened before on any other brand of bike?? You may find it enlightening to dig a little deeper on ANY motorcycle forum...

"I do hope you continue to enjoy the bike"... I do hope you find something to enjoy at some point as well. And perhaps, one day, grow to spread some joy of your own...

"Oh, and no, to both. ::025::"... I was certain YOU would bite and certain YOU would have THE definitive answer to both questions...

Then I must be a very slow Tenere rider. A friend has a 2012 RT and he rides away from me in the twisties. He also has a skid plate on the RT and occasionally rides flat dirt gravel roads. The 2014 H2O Cooled is supposed to be much faster.

I have considered an RT but don't want to spend that much on a road limited motorcycle.

On that one, feel free to prove me wrong. ;) I spent 40 years in the PNW. Bigfoot is a hoax, nothing more.

On the BMW, I'm sorry I ranted.
bunch of other stuff deleted.

Suffice to say, there is a BMW in the garage that has had more repairs than the purchase price of the bike. (it's a 2011 w/74k on it), It's not a lemon, it's just a BMW.

My personal experience with BMW is a negative one, on almost every level.

Congrats on the new bike, they are great machines.

I have owned 2 GS-ADV, 1150 & 1200, I personally never had a single issue or failure with either one. I did ALL the maintenance myself and neither ever went back to the dealer after the initial purchase.

I have a showroom clean never off road 2013 Ténéré with every AltRider part you can bolt on it, I've put 9000 trouble free miles on it and love it but all I want is a new or used RT1200-- I love the Ténéré and it's one of the best bikes I've owned but I WANT a RT in a bad way.

I'm sure I will sell it in the next few months an find a RT, I will ride it and if it's not what I want it to be I will move on to something else- but I suspect I will love it and keep it for awhile.

To me the BMW's are junk argument is like the Ford verses Chevy argument. Just someone else's opinion that doesn't matter to me for a single second.... I could die tomorrow, so I will ride what I want today.

Enoug rambling---- Hope you enjoy your new bike.
