I ordered it from partshark.com for $61, had it a few days later. Inhale no desire to wait for my dealer when for a few bucks I can do the job right and be riding same day. The wires are heavier gauge. Installed with a pair of Osram Hyper 65w bulbs, full voltage, no wire heating. All is good and bright in the world.

I'll have to remember partshark I ordered one on Oct 26 from Stadium and still haven't gotten it. Stadium was a tad higher too.

Just installed my new upgraded harness. Big difference in wire gage size. Btw my old harness was showing signs of heat damage. This is at 11,000+ on the ODM. I'm guessing I would have had a failure down the road.

How's the heat build up with the 65w bulbs as related to the plastic headlight housing itself?

Tough to say, since I'm not in there while riding! Its actually a pretty nicely designed headlight, with all-metal optics (so many bikes these days have plastic reflectors that warp and craze with heat). Adding a vent to the caps (with a water trap) could help getting some cool air circulation in the light module. I've worked a lot with headlight modules from Hella and other makers, and they all have a few vents on high-performance light modules.

For now, I'll just ride!

A finger on the back of the housing I would think should tell all. In the past, I've owner other bikes where the heat build up will yellow the plastic lenses and melt the plastic reflectors and housings.

2 65w bulbs would be a nice benefit if it can be done safely. ::008::

If you don't support your local dealer, he may not be there for you when you need him. Even worse, he may not be there, period.
My local dealer I'd locking the doors this week, so sad.

In most cases, I agree, Paul. but lets not forget that this part came straight from Yamaha; they don't seem to mind selling through a web vendor. My dealer didn't have stock and quoted $98. I called them on a Saturday, and they said they'd order it Tuesday and take a week to get it. Partshark placed my order with Yamaha the same day, Saturday and I had it by Wednesday. If the dealer really wanted my business, they'd try harder.

my local dealer on average charges 30% than the web guys, and puts another 5-8% for shipping charges, for items he should have on the shelf.
I know what you are saying but some of them don't deserve to be in business.
Last time we needed OEM stuff, 4 or 5 guys pooled in on a group buy and we split the shipping/border fees. Win win.

I imported my ST from the states, i'm picking up my fz9 on saturday from the States as well.
I tried to buy locally but I recived four different prices on the bike with wide margins from dealer to dealer, and in one instance a $400 differnce between two sales guys at the same dealer.
I called my guy in the states, he gave me a great price, and a written quote.
I go where the service is, and the good price certainly helps.

Got my new harness today so I thought I'd show a pic. Much heavier wire

Looks like a hint of burn on the old one.

I have suffered the same fate today. My harness on both sides cooked to carbon. Now is this the new part number 23P-84312-01-00 of the harness?

For what it's worth, we're up to 45 failures on this thread. I noted one on another forum, but don't know if is someone on this site with a different name.
Mine was replaced a few weeks ago, under warranty. I said in my original post that I'd save my comments about the dealer until they completed the repair. So, Fredericksburg Motorsports did a great job. They worked with me to photograph and document the issue. Contacted the warranty/parts rep from Yamaha before I got home from the shop. Held the part for the month it took me to bring the bike back, and completed the repair in less than 24 hours. The weather was too good to take back when the part came in. I figured riding with one headlight was better than not riding at all.
I haven't checked to see if it's the new harness or old, but it's working!

Just had my harness replaced with the new version. Yamaha Canada was contacted to help in the replacement of an earlier version of the original I had yet to install.
The were well aware of the issue and said to return it to my dealer and my dealer ordered the new 01 version. I'm 1 yr out of warranty.
JT was the contact at Yamaha Canada. Great customer service!!!

I might be the first documented case in South Africa.

could you tell us what part number you ordered? I know there are part numbers posted on here, but just want to be sure. I may order one just to have incase.

NHTSA originates recalls, the last time that I checked was a few weeks ago, and by memory there was only a single failure registered on the NHTSA site. For ALL 2012 and 2013s.
