thank you don in lodi for your feedback on the calsci extra large wind screen . i will also be installing the calsci extra large on my new raven super tenere when it arrives here in new york city around mid october . wind screens or windshields or whatever they are called can never be tall enough for me . i am 6 foot 1 inch tall with 32 or 33 inch inseam - which is average . but i do not like wind blast - it wears me out ( and freezes my blood ) - so the most wind protection available is always appreciated at least by me . some riders don't like big screens because it slows down the bike and messes up the steering control . but i don't ride over 65 mph so it is not a big issue for me . i am encouraged that you like the extra large calsci and i will definitely install one on my 2012 raven super tenere whenever it happens to show up . thanks .

I am in Sacramento and CalScience is just a few miles from my office so I went over then to meet the folks. Great family run organization. The looked at me and said "medium" I am 5'-9" and a 30" inseam. I said I want still air and they said "medium". Have not put it on yet but a great product and a great family. I like the fact it is wider at the bottom as it wil shed more air to the sides. They did indicate that they were suprised at the rush of orders so I gave them the story about the bikes all arriving pretty much at the same time. Considering how many windscreens I tried on my Multistrada I figured I got this one right the first time.

By the way you need to spend some time on their website. He has he says thousands of hours in writing things on the site. He covers all sorts of motorcycle matters and his science side is really cool also. I guarantee you you can spend hours on that site and not get bored

A+ guy to deal with and a superior product. IMHO it is the screen to have

Shit. You guys sure are scientific these days about wind buffeting and being just plain comfortable. Why not just ride in a car or something. The last time I rode a bike we did not worry with such things. At that time, I was in bliss just because I was riding a motorcycle. Who cares about comfort. There is no comfort in this world. Hard times are coming.

What is your height and inseam? (I'm 6', 32inch and not sure between the XL or L)
6'2" and a 32" inseam. So my body is two inches taller, theoretically. I'm looking over the XL just fine. I've spent the last many years looking through the barn door my Royal Star has on it. This looking over thing is new to me.

Will any of these work with the "wings" fitted on my Supa10..?

Which would be best for me - I'm 6'0" 230# 33" inseam
The wings mounted up fine. BUT...they dovetail into the cutouts for the handguards with the screen on the very lowest setting. If the screen was set at high I'm pretty sure there would be interference. When he saw that I had risers he wasn't sure things would clear at all. The guards clear the screen just fine. You're longer legged, but shorter bodied... I'd guess the med or lg should fit you. Just realize with the cutouts for the wider screen, it will have to be mounted low and stay there.

Why so late on the deliveries to NYC? It's looking like everybody that ordered one has got it in the first couple weeks of August. And even then, the letters said "by the end of August".

So I called CalSci and got the full family customer service treatment - honestly the nicest father/son combo ever to kicked stuff around with for about 10 mins. I called just to do some window shopping and left buying 2 windscreens & an assortment of fasteners.

After testing the Yam factory windscreen and the tall, I bought both the CalSci shorty tinted and the Large.

The shorty works great with a full face helmet. I am 6'3" and leave the seat in the low position, as well as the wind screens.

The Large worked great on a 250 mi shakedown trip with my Arai XD3 helmet - so virtually no buffeting even with visor installed.

As mentioned, I also bought the knobs from CalSci for quick change.

The thing that impressed me about CalSci (beyond the fact that the windshields work great) was the cloth & cleaner they included. This stuff is magic - not sure if it's the cleaner or cloth - but it is great!!!! Removes bugs etc fast and without residue - nice!!!!

Overall, I am very pleased with CalSci - hence the recommendation.

Don, do you think this will work with Greg's screen adjuster? I have the wings and am thinking about cutting off 1/2 inch at the rear. That is so I can get to the top side cover screw. If I have to cut some off the front, that won't be good. :( I'm supposed to get mine on Monday, so I guess we'll find out.

Simple answer: We've all gone soft in our old age!!!!!

:)

Me thinks you will see a huge difference between your first/last bike and the SuperT.........

Looking at pictures of Greg's adjuster, it looks like it can put the screen just about anywhere you need it. I'm betting that any interference I might have is a total non-issue with the adjuster on there. Is there anything under that upper cover that you would need to get to that couldn't wait the 30 seconds for you to remove the wing? I doubt Yamaha covered up a screw you need to get to very often.

Sorry to say that I did not have luck with the medium. Tried in low position which was very bad with the XD. High was about the same as the stock in the low position which is tolerable. Seems that you either have to go with a low or a high screen with an Arai XD3. Asking Mark (CalSci) for suggestions on exchange. Will keep you posted.

5' 10", 32" inseam, Seat in high position.

Your right about the 30 seconds. :) And I guess it will stay, as is, but it is a hassle when you lose a well nut and can't find the sob. I did not realize the nuts had not developed the bulge and both came out when I was working on the bike.
Then the hunt was on, while your asking yourself, where in the hell could they have gone . :-\ :D

Tip,, buy some of the plastic washers that are used on the side cover bolts. Arrrrgh

Today I received my large Cal-Sci screen and installed it. I just took my first test ride with the screen.

1st a little background: I'm 6' tall with a 32" inseam. I've had my S10 for 3 weeks now and love almost everything about it, except the wind-noise/buffeting. I tried the stock screen and the Yamaha OEM Tall/Touring screen, but both gave me a deafening roar at anything faster than 45mph. It was so bad, I was actually considering selling the S10. And BTW, my other bike is a Wee-Strom, so I know all about buffeting issues.

And now the verdict: The Large Cal-Sci screen COMPLETELY TRANSFORMED the bike. Under 60mph I'm in a noiseless cocoon of solitude. Above 60 mph there's a little wind noise, but hey - it's a motorcycle, not a Mercedes. This will be the best $200 I'll ever spend on my bike. Thank you Cal-Sci, you guys rock!!!!!!!!!!!! ::015::

Yea those little suckers seem to run away and hide :'( But then again I have found two of the four I dropped so far. A bag of spares would be a good idea

dear don in lodi

everything that has to do with motorcycles is late in new york . new york city is the city that never sleeps and the center of style and culture . if you really want something - anything - you can find it in new york . but you may have to wait in a very long line . motorcycle shops are not very prompt and they don't stock very many items . riders don't really live in manhattan ( not in my neighborhood ) . the pot holed streets and bumper to bumper traffic are not conducive to riding a two wheeled vehicle . my yamaha dealer is in long island city which is next to queens . he is a great guy to do business with but an order will show up when and if everything else has been sold to allow for more space . the showroom is about the size of an average bagel store ( small ) . i am not on any kind of $500 deposit order reserve deal . i just know long island city yamaha will be getting two raven super teneres ( one of them mine and one for another manhattan biker friend ) " before the end of october " . the dealer has promised to call me when it finally arrives . this dealer will also be putting a new blue super tenere on the " showroom " floor -- if there is any room . this is life in the big city . always something new . always something surprising . but everything shows up eventually .

I ordered the Medium, 5'8" w/28-29 inseam. Based on the fitting chart they had this is supposed to be the ticket. I should be getting it by Friday in time for a Saturday lunch ride to give it a test.

I ordered and installed the Large screen. It worked amazingly well in terms of reduced turbulent air and noise. However, I found that I was looking through the shield more than I could stand, so I sent it back in exchange for a Medium. The 1.5" shorter height seems like it will still cut the noise and buffeting in half vs. the stock screen, but I'll be able to see over it. I'm 5'11.5" with a 32" inseam, but I tend to slouch a bit when riding.
